“Either write something worth reading or do something worth writing.” These were the words that my elementary teacher told my class before a summer vacation. I never forgot them because they were the reason I ever got into my creative writing. I’ve been writing stories for both profit and pleasure for the last ten years, and each one is an example of my improvement. I took this class as a review course after my recent two year hiatus, and I believe that I have made an improvement in my writing as a whole. Before I took this course, I wasn’t confident in my organizational skills, I couldn’t make my stories flow, and I wasn’t sure if I was using correct grammar and punctuation, or just making a fool of myself. After this course, I know that I have corrected my mistakes and, once again, improved, not only in my creative writing, but in all my …show more content…
I believe that, in my type of writing, I am more prone to incorrectly using punctuation, because of my tendency to type what I see, as if I was saying it. I believe it especially so because of my lack of knowledge in certain punctuation; such as semicolons & ampersands. (Not to mention parentheses). But, once again, thanks to this class I will no longer make small mistake in my writing like those in the previous sentences. Each lesson is available to me, should I forget, and I have many examples and tests to assist me in the future. Instead of hoping that I have correctly used a punctuation, I will be able to proudly use all the punctuations at my disposal. I will never say that my writing is perfect, nor should any writer, because we all know that with every poem penned to paper, and every story typed in, and every report printed, there is something to learn and improve on. When asked if I’ve learned anything from this class I would have to say, yes, I believe I have. So I’ll write about

How have I improved as a writer? I will go over my time in this class and review the various topics I mentioned above and more. Looking back over my time in this class I will critique and praise myself. How I felt about writing when I first started this class compared to how I feel now, I would have to say I am more comfortable with writing.
The 2017 AP Language and Composition course was purely correlated to challenging prospering to potential readers and writers. Its evidential goal was designed to build a basis of using appropriate rhetoric devices as to make his or her idea tangible to others. Although our “particular” class was very outspoken at times, overall I do believe we know how to better communicate our insights through both writings and in speech than we did at the beginning of the year. Unlike any year of English’s class, I concur that we grew in our level of proficiency as a writer and in our progress as a critical reader. Nevertheless, personally, I would like to believe that I’m well-suited in getting an A for both effort and skill based qualifications.
With my written essays, I simply revised the essays as I wrote. So, I assert that this course has helped me learn to manage my writing efforts a bit
Finally my grammar has improved constantly throughout the course. I was able to see my mistakes and how to fix them when I was able to read my grader’s notes. Altering each of my common mistakes helped me understand how to write with correct grammar. The feedback I would get from the instructors helped to improve my rhetorical analysis paper. I learned to ask for assistance when I encountered a problem.
In my future, I hope to continue the skills I have acquired during this English class. I think that they will be very obliging to me, nevertheless of what I am trying to achieve. In this course, I was encountered with deadlines, instructions, and assignments that I could not work around. I found that all of these responsibilities have made me comprehend that I could definitely take the next step forward in life.
I am now able to see the areas in which I lack in but I also recognize my strengths as well. To become a precise writer, you have to take the initiatives that will help you do so. These initiatives consist of working on different academic genres, planning and organizing material, identifying purpose and audience and for revising intentionally. It is also includes reading different types of texts and learning how to understand a writer’s argument and respond to the ideas of others.
When I began the writing process for this assignment I did not know what I was going to write about. I started by thinking about every writing practice that stuck out in my educational career. Eventually I ran across the experience that I had with my sixth grade teacher and how detrimental that was on my writing ability and thought process. As I began to write this essay, I started to relay memories that I almost nearly forgot.
Reflective Portfolio Letter Dear, Members of the First Year Writing Assessment Committee, In my past years of writing I have seen myself develop into a well disciplined and patient writer. However, I have seen myself significantly improve and mature as a writer over the past few months more than I have in the past four years. I view writing as an open doorway full of ideas, feelings, and thoughts weaved together simply for creating a masterpiece. Before entering college English 1010, high school students are conditioned to write required papers and assignments without having the ability to “put you’re your own opinions and feelings in a paper.”
I've learned that I need to prioritize my time in a valuable manner, I've learned that I need to pay attention to my instructor's instructions, I've learned how to write a paper, as well as what I need to work on grammar wise, thanks to my writing lab. Firstly, when I started this course, it was rough fitting classwork into my day. Having a full-time job and a two-year-old kept me quite tired, but once I finally committed
Writing has always been an issue but yet interesting subject of mine. As hard as I try and write essays, and papers I just can’t get the hang of writing. But after taking this class, I did learn different writing technique and improved my writing proficiency, material body of formatting, and how to uncovering and properly use sources. Through class exams, essays, and a research paper, I was able to learn new writing skills. Although I have learned a variety of things, my writing still needs improvement.
Reflecting upon past experiences is an excellent opportunity to learn more about oneself. Writing frequently can also help one learn and improve with immense speed. In AP Lang this year I have written quite a bit, even just small assignments. There have also been numerous reflections, but now I am reflecting upon my writing style as a whole, and taking a deep dive into some of the specific works I have written. When writing I do a great job at creating a defensible claim, and seeing it through, regardless of where it leads me.
My instructor Jennifer Jackson said this time “ Bravo! This is one of the strongest revisions I’ve seen yet.” This essay gave me so much confidence and made me feel I can actually write something interesting. Also, I sent my paper to The Writing Center, after I submitted my paper to my instructor to see any other mistakes I could have to improve my writing skills.
My Writing Experience In previous courses, my writing skills have been mediocre or just enough to pass the class. Throughout the duration of this course, I have written a variety of papers using different techniques and skills. Previously I would write assuming that the only audience would be my instructor. This course has helped me realize that there are many steps and skills involved with writing a well-organized and easy to comprehend essay.
Academic success to me is achieving good grades and understanding the material to get good grades. Academic success also means to have an good attendance. I already get mostly A’s and B’s, but I am not good at staying on top of things. To improve my academic success I will attend class more often, be more organized, pay attention in class, and not procrastinate.
