Within my four years in college, I took pleasure in all my laboratory courses and have benefitted from a broad exposure to different laboratories and scientific techniques and equipment which are vital in the Clinical Laboratory Sciences field. My instructors taught me to look at scientific questions using a systematic approach that will serve me well in continuing my education and throughout my career. I would have the opportunity, not only to shape my own education, but to have the chance to improve the medical school system. It also allows for modernization in teaching methods, such as simulation-based training. I already tend to use hands-on and visual learning methods in studying and so this would help me immensely in succeeding while enjoying the material being taught. We did a lot of simulation-based learning in my EMR class and it was my favorite part of the course. I was also attracted by the WMed approach to teaching through teamwork.

Clinical medicine and science are inherently inseparable entities. Scientific advances and discoveries will perpetually influence any career in the medical profession. This was an idea I learned early on during my undergraduate education. However, my own interest in science spans further than using it as a means to an end. The process of developing theories and conducting experiments enthralls me.

My eyes automatically drifted to the tall bright palm tree that moved along with the rhythm of the wind. It’s leafs danced as they presented their welcome. The sun shined down and hugged me with warmth, giving my skin a tingling, but satisfying sensation. I had come from Virginia to California, the famous, constantly spoken of state, that finally reached my sight. The state presented its beautiful attributes to capture my wonder and mesmerization.

As long as I can remember, I knew that college was going to be part of my future. That is because I always knew what my family expected out of me. College is not only important to me for the reason of making my parents proud, but for making sure that I create more out of myself, as well. With a higher education, I will have more job opportunities available, potentially be able to earn higher income, and obtain more useful life skills than somebody who does not have a college education. To begin, having a college education under my belt is important to me because I will have more opportunities for a job, after I complete my four years.

For many people, college is an important key for their future. Some people go to college for the job opportunities and the new windows it can open. Others go just for the education and experience. A good education is beneficial from many different viewpoints; in truth, it is a possibility that one's adult life could be much harder than people care to think. One can have better wealth, is less likely to be unemployed, and a much higher chance of being closer to your family.

Ever since grade school, I was passionate about working in the field of medicine, and science. I enjoyed anatomy, medical spelling and terminology, and reading about the healthcare industry. Because of my passion for healthcare, I decided to to attend Health Sciences High. There, I was given the best opportunities, such as, medical internships and college health courses. My plans and goals had turned me into a mature young adult.

My interest in science started at an early age from excelling in my STEM courses to furthering that interest through rigorous AP and honors level classes in the subjects I most enjoyed. Over time, I noticed my particular passion for learning when it came to medicine through the numerous medical seminars I attended that were hosted by hospitals and online shadowing programs on the various specialties of medicine. One such eye-opening experience was Brainterns, a medical internship program hosted by Lenox Hill Neurosurgery, which focused on neurosurgical shadowing and clinical research innovation. I have always been fascinated by human anatomy and physiology as the human body is an incredibly complex machine. Over the last few years there have been great developments in medicine and technology. Pursing a biomedical degree will enable me to understand how the human body functions efficiently and develop my knowledge in human biology, anatomy, pathology and molecular biology. Many people may assume that treating patients entirely relies on a doctor, but what interests me is that without biomedical scientists, the causes, cures and diagnosis of diseases would not be possible. This shows that the biomedical scientists play an important role in the health care field.

Academic success to me is achieving good grades and understanding the material to get good grades. Academic success also means to have an good attendance. I already get mostly A’s and B’s, but I am not good at staying on top of things. To improve my academic success I will attend class more often, be more organized, pay attention in class, and not procrastinate.
