The sympathy we feel for others eventually starts flowing away because of distraction. For instance, the short story "The Veldt" is a perfect example on showing how we lose sympathy for others because of technology. The own protagonists have been brainwashed to the point where they will make many radical decisions. The siblings (Wendy and Peter),have become so distracted with the nursery in their automated house, that they don't care about others feelings. They start disobeying their parents right after they said they would be disconnecting the automated home they live in. Both Wendy and Peter couldn't bear the thought of living without it, so they thought it would be okay to bombard their parents. They start off by telling them inappropriate things about how they are, and then don't listen to what they have to say. The parents told them they had lost access to the nursery because of the inappropriate viewings, but the kids decide to proceed their relationship with the nursery and sneak in. To illustrate, George said “ “I locked the nursery up,” explained the father, “and the children broke back into it during the night.” (Bradbury 9). The amount of disobedience these kids show their parents are brought about because of technology. They have been so influenced by technology, that they've reached the point where they will even disobey their own parents. Along with …show more content…
It’s such a big force that they dominate all the little ones, like humans themselves. As everyone falls into the same path, everyone becomes the same… causing no diversification within people. To illustrate, a story from Ray Bradbury named Fahrenheit 451 shows everyone becoming the same because of technology (the larger force). The main request from technology is immediate satisfaction, and after it is given to us we don't care about the rest. Throughout this story, the protagonist (Guy Montag) makes a friend who is named Clarisse and who is not like everyone else. She's a unique person who believes in communication and observation. Everyone else around her who are satisfied, only care about technology. The way of creating communication with others is vanished, because of satisfaction. Since these people don’t have communication, they also don’t have self control. The students act like wreck less because they don’t know any better. There so used to being the same, that everyone acts out the same way. To illustrate, Clarisse mentions “.. head for a Fun Park to bully people around, break window panes in the Window Smasher place or wreck cars in the Cars Wrecker place with the big steel ball.” (Bradbury 30). Everyone being the same shows lack of diversification, along with their actions. They all act the same, as they don’t think twice.
Technology is everywhere and is relied on by almost everyone in today’s society. However, rarely does anyone thinks about the fact technology is controlling its users. This idea is seen in the book Fahrenheit 451. As the book’s society advances their technology to the point where the citizens in the society are connected to the technology and use it all day. In the process, they lose their awareness on events around them.

People don't take advantage of the vast knowledge that is at their disposal, books are a way of knowing the past, the present, and the future. Fahrenheit 451 takes place in the future where books are taken from the people of the world, and are watched carefully, making sure books do not become widespread and instead given technology to replace it. Bradbury, the author, sees technology as set back for the human race and will distract them from the importance of life. Their world is filled with speeding cars and TV screens that span across entire walls. Technology has even replaced actual family members.
Sameness causes the community to have a small amount of variety. The citizens are given the same things at the same age. Imagine the world; everyone receives the same thing which causes no one to be different. In the community, everyone fits in with everyone. In a conversation between Jonas and Asher, Asher said, “If you don’t fit in, you can apply for Elsewhere and be released,” (61).
The children seem have lost touch with human morality, due to the technology acting as parent. There is a fine line between helpful technology and hurtful technology. As the human race moves forward, we must be careful in not crossing that line. If the line is crossed, the human race risks losing its humanity. Lydia and George finally “realized why those other screams had sounded familiar” (Bradbury 10).
This creates a barrier between the parent and child, thus leading to a toxic relationship because parents would rather use technology than spend time with
They did not take extensive action when they observed troubling behavior, were unwilling to reinforce the rules they had set up, and let technology outsource their jobs as leaders of the household. Bradbury’s tale is a cautionary one that warns parents not to underestimate their children or take the task of raising them too lightly. After all, children can change the future, yet the future should not be be allowed to change

Technology and Its Control Over Society In many of his pieces, writings, and novels, Ray Bradbury reflects the immense reliance and close connection that humanity has with technology. He also depicts the dangerous effects that could come from having this relationship, such as a loss of independency and self-control over one’s mind and actions. “There is this plague of sameness, that is killing the human joy” Everything and everyone in the world is different. Sameness makes the world seem blunt. Difference is what makes people unique. If everyone was the same the world would not be interesting and everyone and everything would be boring. The same things happen over and over again.
