In Central America there are high levels of violence, particularly, in regard to gangs who are specifically targeting women. Resulting in families fleeing to the United States through the southern border. In an attempt to stop illegal immigration the current administration has been placing migrants, when caught, in detention centers. This is done as a message to others to not come over, and also as a holding place until they can be sent back to their home country. This becomes more controversial because of who is being held in these centers. Families are migrating together and small children are being held in these detention centers.
Federal judge Dolly M. Gee in the Federal District Court for the Central district of California ordered that these detention centers could not hold the migrant children. However, because of the overwhelming number being held they were given twenty days to be released. However, instead of these centers shrinking and being shut down, they are simply growing in numbers, due to the growing number of Central Americans seeking refuge.

Immigration reform is a complex problem that people have passionate and opposing views on. Due to this, leaders such as Obama in this case must find new solutions to aim to please as many people as possible. His administration had been detaining the immigrants because there has been mass call to decrease illegal immigration in politics. However, a federal court has issued the department of homeland security to release the families from the detention centers. This leaves another problem, what should America do with these people? The current solution is they are released from the detention center with ankle bracelet tracking device and they will go to a federal immigration appeals court where is will be decided if they have ground to stay or not. Many are granted permission to stay while some are deported back to Central

Border Patrol agents confiscate detainee 's money, cell phones, ID cards and other belongings and in one third to one half of the cases, the detainees are deported and then dropped of in an unfamiliar Mexican town without their belongings. According to the ACLU of Arizona, this practice is contrary to international human rights. It is not right for the United States as a whole to deport our Muslim citizens. According to the constitution, it is our right to have freedom of religion. In the article, “Trump; Ban all Muslim travel to the U.S.”(2015), Donald Trump says, “We have no choice but to do this. What I’m doing is no different than FDR”(Trump, D 2015). What FDR did in WWII was a solution, but it was a horrific solution and it was not morally right.
Mexican Americans have immigrated and emigrated to Americas since before the Mexican American war of 1848. Immigration of Chicanos has been happening for a very long time, but the only difference is that it is now becoming a problem. Before the border was created Mexicans would legally cross to America, with no immigration problems, until 1924. When the border was created, Mexicans and Chicanos no longer has access to their old Chicano lives. Children continue to illegally be brought to America in search of better opportunities.
Illegal immigration has been a sensitive topic to discuss over the years. Most of these immigrants come into the United States in look for a better life, escaping the poverty from their country of origin. Many people are against illegal workers coming into the country, others are greatly benefited by their work. Many opportunistic employers have targeted these “day laborers”, called by Abel Valenzuela Jr., the author of the article “Immigrant Day Laborers”, to take advantage of their work. Immigrant workers are an important part of the U.S. economy and should be benefited by the work they do.
“We always hear about the rights of democracy, but the major responsibility of it is participation.” (Marsalis). Politics influences almost everything we do in our lives and how we do it. Therefore, political participation in the American government, a democracy, is the best way to be the change you want to see in your community and in your country. One small yet important and effective way to do this is by contacting your government and voicing your opinions, and when I wanted to raise the issue of immigration reform for the DACA recipients, I researched the issue, wrote a letter, and sent it.
In Australia the current policy on asylum seekers and refugees, outlined in the Migration Act 1958 requires “people who are not Australian citizens and do not hold a valid visa to be detained” (Australian Government 2013, p.1). Newman, et al. (2010) illustrates that most asylum seekers in immigration detention centres endure horrific conditions of overcrowding, abuse of human rights and a lack of access to healthcare. The articles above support Newman’s et al. (2010) findings and further highlight the harmful physical and psychological effects of mandatory detention on children and their families.
Measures range from treating schools, courthouses and hospitals as “safe zones” to restricting the ability of local police to detain people on behalf of federal immigration. The law does nothing to curtail the ability of federal agents to come into the state and deport people or carry out raids, but it does make such actions more difficult for agencies with limited resources (Steinmetz,
For many, many years illegal immigrants have been a rising problem for the country. They come from numerous different countries to create a new life for the better. The United States of America, being a country founded by immigrants, is known all over the world as the land of great opportunities. People from all walks of life travelled across the globe, taking a chance to find a better life for them and their family. Over the years, the population of immigrants has grown immensely, resulting in the currently controversial issue of illegal immigration. Illegal immigrants are the people who have overstayed the time granted on their US, visa or those who have broken the federal law by crossing the border illegally. When it comes to the question about “what is the solution”, opinions start flowing, but to the best of my knowledge, I see that the solution will never be one-sided, in other words, I see no perfect solution from the common options. Blocking the refugees would fail – but to open doors without limit is the most reckless decision. The only solution is treating the root causes in migrants’ countries. “When solving problems, dig at the roots instead of just hacking at the leaves.” ―
