Claudia Kolker’s book “The Immigrant Advantage” (Oct 2011) is a book that touched on the advantages of immigrants coming to the U.S. bringing along their customs, religions, teachings, and traditions. Kolker wants to inform readers that there are good things that come from immigrants like food, fashion, vocabulary, and customs. Kolker points out in her book that there is many ways that immigrants benefit to succeed from others in everyday life. For Example, “The Vietnamese Money Club” (Kolker 19) it is said that to start a money club you need people that you trust from 3-6 people at the least. They all need to pitch in a certain amount of money aside and who turn it is first they get all the money.

Wealth has formed an enormous gap in the society. As a country, the people are as separated as oil and water. “The wealthy class is becoming more wealthy; but the poorer class is becoming more dependent. When I was in middle school classmates would ask me if I could hang out with them I would always tell them no because of my parents, they would never believe me. I believe Hispanic parents are stricter than American parents because of the way the parents were raised, the town we live in, and they are very protective. Throughout the history of the United States, immigration has and continues to be an issue that is present today. Undocumented immigrants face many hardships living in our country with limited access to attain a lifestyle as any other American. These limitations affect undocumented immigrants in their daily lives and they face downward social mobility. In the workplace along with anywhere else, immigrants face fear of deportation and exploitation due to their ‘illegal’ immigration status, therefore they remain living in the shadows and in extreme distress. If opportunities such as a work permit was granted to immigrants, their chances of succeeding in the labor market would be rewarding.

Immigrant workers in the U.S. have a significant impact on the U.S. economy. The degree and relevance of that impact are often debatable. Some people believe that immigrant workers take jobs away from the natural born U.S. citizen. Others debate that the immigrant worker is a way for the labor market to keep pace with an ever changing job market. Another faction believes that the immigrant worker is necessary to occupy jobs that no longer are desirable by the more educated U.S. work force.

Asian American parents see the future in the USA, so they decided to immigrate there. They raise their children and give them the best of essential things. Relatively they would hope they can depend on their children and expect their children to achieve the goals that they didn’t achieve, yet. But also, parents just want their children to be well in the future. However, it was tough for Asian parents to be immigrants because they spend lots of time and money to come to the USA without any support in the past.

There are many challenges that immigrants face throughout their lives. Many immigrants are able to come to the U.S., but it is not easy as it seems. One challenge that immigrants go through is being able to have respect that the U.S. citizens have. Another challenge that immigrants face is being able to adapt to the new environment. People who arrive in the U.S. might not be able to speak English.
