Technology surrounds us everywhere we look. Whether it's the self-driving feature on your electric car or the electric toothbrush you use to brush your teeth in the morning. No matter what you do, you cannot escape it. One of the most prevalent forms of technology in our daily lives is social media, or online platforms where people can share/create content, as almost 4.5 billion people engage in it daily. Over the years, social media has taken more and more control over our lives as a social media content creator has become a full-time job for a large sum of people. Further, instead of using social media for entertainment, companies have transformed it into a tool for profit as our attention is being sold to advertisers. Price notes that social media feeds have been designed to be, “deliberately endless (Price 3) so users will be guaranteed to spend more and more time on the app. This endless usage of social media contributes to society’s newfound short attention span and lack of concentration. Although it's profiting off of our attention (Price 2), Price fails to recognize that with social media’s surge in popularity, more and more awareness is being spread to try and warn users of its effects. With today’s efforts on prioritizing mental health, social media cleanses and mediation is becoming much more common among teenagers. As long as people are bringing more and more awareness, users can get their usage under control to healthy levels. Consequently, Price mentions that more and more information being shared on social media is false and the truth is becoming more blurred (Price 4). Despite the fact that there is more fake news being shared now than ever, the creation of social media as a whole has given people, who previously could not have, the opportunity to share their message and purpose with others. It has given a voice to those who never would have gotten one before. It is our responsibility as users to be cautious of what we see and hear, but recognize the privilege we have been given to share our opinions. Without the use of social media, billions of people around the world could not be as connected and captivated by one

As a society, people tend to live in an age where social media has the equivalent or rather extraordinary significance as a face-to-face interaction. The way individuals interact with one another has evolved over time due to: technology and mass medium almost representing the bang of technology use. Websites such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter are designed to share photos, videos, thoughts, to connect with people and to spread awareness from politics to a daily update. Social media has both positive and negative effects such, it can help people engage and help people socialize, but it can also backfire and cage people to become antisocial and not gain the skills that are needed to have dialogue. There is no doubt that social media has
However, the addictive nature of social media and its potential adverse effects on mental health and relationships raise concerns. Social media addiction can lead to social disconnection despite physical proximity, as individuals prioritize their online presence over face-to-face interactions. Nevertheless, social media platforms have empowered individuals to voice their opinions, mobilize communities, and raise awareness about social issues. It is essential to balance the benefits and risks of social media use to harness its full potential for positive societal
This article provides more evidence supporting the idea that media coverage of suicide can significantly impact vulnerable individuals, particularly those struggling with mental health issues or suicidal thoughts. With the use of social media, these fake stories may spread faster and to more people than the corrected, true information. Traditional media and journalism separate opinion and fact. Social media allows for anybody with an opinion to spread anything and disguise it as fact. This is a major issue as the spread of misinformation could dangerously alter the public’s perspective of a topical issue. However, to prevent certain opinions being spread could infringe on the right to free speech.
In order to use social media in an effective and responsible manner, one must professionally voice their opinions by using various methods and prevent the amount of misinformation from being rapidly spread. In today’s society, social media is a powerful tool for one to express their opinion. From reviews of a certain product to interpreting a movie’s plot, social media gives the average individual the ability to voice their opinion in which can be heard by millions of users. It is important for one to do this, especially on a platform with a diverse audience, because it assists in informing and persuading others to read and consider viewpoints that differ from their own.
So many people are on one network online, social media has essentially become a second world. That being said, social media should not be encouraged to the public. At first use, social media does not seem dangerous, but it is. These sites diminish its user’s privacy to the point that it is accepted (Anderson 1). Not only do social networks hurt us, but users use it in a way for emotional self-harm.
Social media has various negative impacts on the physical well being. Excessive use of social media can jeopardize our health. First of all, it should be mentioned that the Internet, for instance, takes time away: instead of morning exercises, one would rather read some new portion of news or check e-mail. People are always staring at their smartphones either for reason or for no reason at all. The most frequent health problems are thought to be those that are connected with vision and body posture.
With the internet being invented and undoubtedly taking huge precedence in our lives, there is inevitably going to be a way for people to waste their time on the internet. That time waster, also known as social media, is one of the most beneficial and also one of the worst things that has entered the lives of people as a result of the internet. People everywhere use social media. They use it to feel connected to people who are far away, to promote their businesses, and for a plethora of other reasons. Social media has begun to be increasing used in school, the workplace, and also just in peoples own homes.
Social media has been a constant habit of teenagers, checking their phones in the morning and right before bed. As adolescents are on the media 24/7, teenagers are seen as being easily deceived online, which I believe is true. Therefore, these young people’s mental health is being damaged. For decades now, millions of teenagers are spending a lot more time on social media.
