Lady Macbeth, cruel wife of Macbeth, assisted in the murder of King Duncan and his servants. She is a violently ambitious and manipulative woman, so much so that she thought up and planned the idea to kill King Duncan and convinced Macbeth to kill Duncan and his servants so that he could take Duncan’s place on the throne. Macbeth carried out with the deed, while the feeling of guilt invaded his mind almost compromising the plan, when Lady Macbeth stepped in and completed the plan mercilessly. As she finished the deed that Macbeth couldn’t carry out, (putting the daggers back with the servants), she compliments herself for being so brave and mentally stronger than some men. Macbeth, now known as King Macbeth, hires murderers to kill those that he feels will get in the way of him staying on the throne. In the Tragedy of Macbeth, Lady Macbeth exhibits a greater capacity for evil than Macbeth. For example when Lady Macbeth is speaking to Macbeth after he starts to reconsider the plan, she says, “Art thou afeard/ To be the same thine own act and valor/As thou art in desire” (I,vii,39-41). In this scene Lady Macbeth tries to manipulate her husband to kill Duncan by calling him a coward. As a man, Macbeth takes her comments very harshly and gets manipulated to continue the assasination plot.
She is willing to pull everyone down, even her husband, in order for her to become queen. She comes up with the idea of killing King Duncan. She asks her husband Macbeth to do the honor of killing Duncan but he hesitated at first. Lady Macbeth repeatedly questions his manhood.

In order to deceive those around them, Lady Macbeth tells Macbeth that he should appear the way that people expect him to look; innocent. She explains how he must pretend to be virtuous, while hiding his devious ways. She understands that he would not have done this own, so she decided to take charge of the situation and tell him how it must be done. As the king starts making his way towards them, she says, “He that’s coming / Must be provided for; and you shall put / This night’s great business into my dispatch, / Which shall to all our nights and days to come / Give solely sovereign sway and masterdom” (1.5.78-82). She completely takes control of the preparations needed for the murder to take place that night, knowing that she is the only one who will do it the way she wants it.
