Ashton Hinkley Mrs. Moffat English 5-6 15 January 2023 Into The Wild Without A Trace In addition to the book the true story of into the wild is much more complex and emotional. In my opinion Chris was justified in leaving. I believe this because he went through a lot of heartache and pain, honestly if he hadn't left he most likely would have endured more. First let's start with Chris’s childhood, Walt Mcandless (Chris’s dad) was an aerospace engineer who designed advanced radar systems for space shuttles and other high-profile system projects while in the employ of NASA and Hughes aircraft in the 1960s-70s. In 1978 Walt went into business by himself, which is where he met Billie (Chris’s mom). There were eight children and 6 half brothers …show more content…
She truly genuinely cared for Chris and his well being. She had an estranged relationship with her son at which Chris reminded her of. She felt a need of motherly protectiveness over him , it’s evident that she wanted the best for Chris. She even took him into her home without knowing him. They truly had a genuine connection. Although Chris had genuine connections he felt the need to keep on his journey seeking adventure. In one of Chris's journal entries it reads “It is the experiences, the memories, the great triumph of joy living to the fullest extent in which real meaning is found. God it's great to be alive! Thank you, thank you”. Chris truly enjoyed simple beauties, the little things in life. I genuinely admire Chris for following his dream and getting out. I’d like to believe that he lived and died happy, and blessed. In conclusion I believe Chris is more than justified for leaving into the wild unknown. Yes he could’ve been better prepared but at the end of the day it was his life. Chris truly lived to the fullest and that's all any of us hope for. He wasn’t just a dumb unprepared guy, he was a man who lived by his own rules regardless. Chris’s goodbye letter read “I have had a happy life and thank the lord. Goodbye and may God bless all!” I'd say it speaks for
Chris just got up and abandoned his family and friends without telling them anything. His family cared about him so much, and his best friend
Also, not to mention his dad had a second life and had another child, Chris had to live at both places and take care of both siblings while keeping it a secret from his mom. On page 121 it states “ Long after falling in love with Billie, long after she gave birth to Chris,Walt continued his relationship with Marcia in secret, dividing his time between two households”. I believe that Chris just wanted to get out, leave his toxic childhood behind and no kid should have to go through that. So lastly, he just wanted freedom and to get out and explore.
Some people may think that Chris was not justified because he did abandon his family and he told nobody that he was leaving for alaska. He also left his perfect life and many people didn't understand why. On page 2 it says “Hey Guys! This is the last communication you shall receive from me.
Chris McCandless met a lot of people in his journey to Alaska along the way he met all sorts of people such as the old man who he grew a bond with chris and Chris said he'll think about getting adopted by the lonely old man then left him saying he'll come back. The old man waited and waited just to find out that Chris died in the woods which later turned the old man an atheist. Chris Left impacts the people he's met. He had some sort of a magnet where people get pulled in his personality just for Chris to leave without warning or promising he would come back to them. ( ¨ When Gallien asked whether his parents or a friend knew what he was up to whether there was anyone who would sound the alarm if he got into trouble and was overdue ales answered calmly that nobody knew of his plan that in fact he hasn't spoken to his family in nearly two years.¨ ) Chris mcCandless was a very strange person he didn't really like connecting with people he always kept people at arm's length and this fear of connection impacted many people.
Growing up tho Chris’s parents always fought. And according to Chris’s sister Carnie they blamed Chris for the reason why they got together. This was a lot of pressure for this guy, and i'm sure it would be a lot of pressure for anyone. The only times this pressure was lifted from Chris was when they were outdoors, either out camping or on hikes, it was the only time the fighting would stop, so at an early age Chris learned that the outdoors meant
In the book on page 56-58, Chris writes to Westerberg, “The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun.” This shows why Chris likes being outside with nature so much away from everyone. He didn't want to stay in one spot and do the same things in his life, he wanted to change it up. If Chris didn't feel happy with his life, but only felt happy in nature, why wouldn't he leave into the
Now I would not call Chris completely selfish. For one, he donated practically all of his leftover college fund money. Also, when people would talk about him they don’t describe as selfish, mean, or as someone who likes when other people are sad. I do believe that he did care about a lot of people, but I think him leaving all those people and having them worry could be a little selfish. Then he would constantly get food, a place to sleep, or a ride from people, but when they try to help him long term he would always refuse or leave them.
When Chris was young, he found peace within nature. Nature made Chris so much happier than his life in society. In a letter to Wayne when traveling through Arizona, he wrote, “There is all kinds of fantastic scenery and the climate is wonderful… My days were more exciting when I had to forage around for my next meal ” (33). Chris felt free and actually like himself when in the
So you have to think that Chris had to be going through a lot of hurt to see both of his parents doing that. It also
Andrew Carter Mrs. Moffat English 5-6 11 January 2023 Was Chris Justified? Chris McCandless was a man who ventured all the way across America to try and get to Alaska. He was given an audience in Jon Krakauer's book Into the Wild. In the story, Chris abandons his family leaving them wondering if he will ever come back and ends up never speaking to them again. To an extent I agree with Chris for leaving his family but I mainly agree because adventure is what Chris wanted to do.
Thank you. Thank you. This quote stuck with Chris because it's what he wanted to do with his life. Live it to the fullest. I also think that he would have survived if he also brought a map because he was getting lonely and sad so he wanted to go back home to his family so he left the bus and he walked until he reached a river but the river was to strong
One big reason Chris wasn’t justified is he caused his relationship with all his loved ones to fall apart and hardly ever spoke to his family because they wouldn’t understand and Chris probably felt as if they’d try and stop him from an adventure. In talking with Jim Gallien, Chris told him “he hadn’t spoken with his family in nearly two years.” (pg 6). This shows that Chris doesn’t value his relationships because the amount of time he's away and lost contact doesn’t phase him.
McCandless was born on February 12, 1968 to his parents, Billie (mother), Walt (father) McCandless. Chris also had a sister named Carine McCandless who was younger than Chris by three years. Chris graduated from Wilbert Tucker Woodson High school in 1986 then he went off to college of Emory University where he graduated the year of 1990, finished with a GPA of 3.72. After his education, McCandless felt like it was time to start taking some adventures on his
Have you ever wanted to just run away from your problems with no trace, well Chris Mcandless was that person from having a toxic childhood where there was abuse to not having a good relationship between parents. He felt safe and more at home in the outside world than his actual home, he so loved the adventure this is why Chris Mcandless was justified in leaving his family without a trace. The first reason why Chris Mcandless was justified in leaving his family was because he wanted to escape his family that he did not get along with, he felt like the outdoors were more of a home than his actual home. “In the documentary about chris it talks about how abusive his father was towards his mother, hitting her and strangling her, the sisters
“Really, I think he was just plain crazy,” I do agree with Callarman because I think Chris was a little crazy for doing these actions. He was a very courageous for doing this because not many people would take a random trip to the wilderness because people would rather be in
