Nowadays, social media has taken a huge place in our lives. It seems like people misunderstood the purpose of social media such as TV and computer. In reality, TV was brought up to inform and to entertain us. Unfortunately, the evolution of technology and people addiction to media come up with many consequences which I believe were not expected. People begin to learn violence and do harmful actions to each other because of inappropriate shows and games they watch on TV and video games. When I arrived in The United States, I noticed that some children were very aggressive. I tried to ask myself about what makes them so violent. By the time, I remarked that it was due images they watch on media and what they see on the street. However, it'll be selfish if we blame TV for our …show more content…
Our background and our personality can sometimes have more influence on our behavior than TV and background. First of all, violence images on TV and video games can whether or not have an impact on our behavior. People have different ways to react to what they see. According to my survey based on the question " Do violence images on TV and video games can affect our behavior?". People arguments were not similar and it seems like my interviewers were divided into two groups. Those who had the same point of views were together. On one hand, fifty percent asserted that the effect of violent images on media depends on the behavior of the person who watches it and his background as well. Let's take an example of a young boy who watches GTA which is a violent game, and who lives in a background where
Violent games can corrupt the minds of young men and women. There are many forms of media in our world today. It affects people in different ways. Although everyone doesn’t react the same way to media, many have negative reactions to it. Crime is heavily influenced by media in our
Studies have shown that teens exposed to violent media have shown they may become numb to violence, imitate the violence, and show more aggressive behavior. Younger children may be more influenced by violent images. The American Academy of Pediatric had over four-hundred studies revealed a “significant” link between being exposed to violent media and aggressive behavior, aggressive thoughts and angry
In her essay, “I Had a Nice Time with you Tonight, on the app,” Jenna Wortham believes that social media apps are a helpful way to connect. Wortham swears by apps and is grateful that she can communicate with her boyfriend who is three thousand miles away. Yet some may challenge the view that Social Media apps are a reliable and effective method of communicating, Sherry Turkle stresses people are substituting online communication for face-to-face interaction. Although Turkle may only seem of concern to only a small group of people, it should in fact concern anyone who cares about the negative effects social media can have on people. In her eyes, nothing can replace person-to-person communication.
Significant contributors to violence are poverty, racism, unemployment, illegal drugs, inadequate parenting practices, and adult models of violent behaviour in real life and in the media. Violence on TV can help cause aggressive behaviour but, one must be reminded that not every person who watches violence on TV becomes violent (Birckmayer, 2009). Our society needs to understand why this is so. Research suggests that violence arises from the interactions among individuals' psychosocial development, their neurological and hormonal differences, and social process (Birckmayer, 2009). The actions each of us takes to reduce violence are matters of individual conscience, skills, resources and opportunities.
In society, violence is unfortunately apart of the reality in which people live. Many persons believe that there is a correlation between video games and violence. This is because most persons who are violent have had interests in violent media such as games, movies, etc. However, in the text “Violent Video Games and Young People” states that the correlation between video games and violence is minimal. Much of the research on violent video game use relies on measures to assess aggression that don 't correlate with real-world violence.
From school shootings to the most prolific serial killers, there is no doubt violence is a national issue. While many theories exist on why people kill, commit a crime, and hurt others, many have turned their focus to the media. After all, studies show that all types of media directly influence the actions of their audience, especially children, and adolescents; it is logical to assume that violence in the media is causing a rise in violence. A plethora of factors come together when someone commits a violent act including genetics, upbringing, and the environment. Analyzing how the media fuels the fire of someone already at a predisposition to distress is crucial to solving this issue.
Each year numerous amount of people become a social media user. The eMarketer website estimated that by 2019 “there will be around 2.77 billion social media users around the globe, up from 2.46 billion in 2017” (1). A great deal of those users utilizes social media to communicate their opinion to other users; as a matter of fact, these users might change their perspective a certain person might have on a topic. Social media is a marketing tool, therefore people utilize those social media platforms to pursue, and even manipulate the public to think in a certain way; hence, why social media can influence the public opinion.

There are many studies on media violence and its social effects. Most of the studies have indicated that children who are exposed to media violence are more likely to exhibit violent and aggressive behaviors. As the child observes the violence, he/she is motivated by the fact that the show is enjoyable without realizing the violent behaviors. As a result, they copy and identify the behavior, and this has detrimental effects on their social life. According to Boxer et al., the content of the media has a direct impact on its audiences (420).
Television Violence Television has had an enormous contribution on how the world has changed and how we perceive it. There are hundreds of channels and a vast variety of genres to choose from in just a click of a button; however what you choose can really have an effect on you. People believe that television violence has a negative effect on society because it promotes violence. No doubt, I can agree with what these people believe, that television violence does have an effect on society because people will become more vulnerable, children will become more liable and people will become more aggressive involuntarily. Vulnerability is something that we should not show, as it is a sign of weakness.
So many people are on one network online, social media has essentially become a second world. That being said, social media should not be encouraged to the public. At first use, social media does not seem dangerous, but it is. These sites diminish its user’s privacy to the point that it is accepted (Anderson 1). Not only do social networks hurt us, but users use it in a way for emotional self-harm.
As television watching increased severely over the past half-century, it also became more violent. In 1969 the National Commission on the causes and prevention of violence indicated that ‘The preponderance of the available research evidence strongly suggests…that violence in television programs can and does have adverse effects upon audiences’ (cited in Berkowitz, 1993, p.199.) Since that time, television violence has increased largely. Research reports in 1970, published that children has seen over 11,000 murders on television by the age of 14. More recent researches and reports have demonstrated that now, the average child sees more than 100,000 violent crimes on television every year and about 200,000 crimes when they reach their teens.
For years people have played the “blame game” with media and its effects on society. It has been questioned whether the media helps or hurts more in its overall impacts. The media consists of magazines, advertisements, TV shows, and social pages such as Instagram, SnapChat, Twitter, and Facebook, all in which society seems to be addicted to. The real question is, is having all of these sources of media positively or negatively affecting society? Some people blame the media for harming society by causing eating disorders and a low self esteem.
As a young child begins to mature, the different types of movies he or she may watch will affect how they behave. Violent films, are a prime example of this concept. Studies by George Gerbner, Ph.D., at the University of Pennsylvania, have proven that “children 's TV shows contain about 20 violent acts each hour” which supports the claim that these violent acts can correspond with how a child perceives the world (“Violence on Television” np). Psychological research also have shown that if a infant is exposed to violent movie, they may “...become less sensitive to the pain and suffering of others, be more fearful of the world around them, and be more likely to behave in aggressive or harmful ways toward each other”
Chapter 1 Background of the Study Introduction In the contemporary world, most people use social media for news, entertainment, to seek information and to be updated every day.
