In Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird, Tom Robinson represents the mockingbird because he is killed for just trying to live his life. In the trial where a white woman, Mayella Ewell, accused a black man, Tom Robinson, of rape, Tom Robinson is found guilty, although it seems to be clear that he did not do it. He then gets sentenced to death and while he waits for the death penalty, put into jail. Escaping seemed like the only chance he had of survival, but when he tried, the guards caught him and shot him to death. After Atticus found out the news he told his family, “Seventeen bullet holes in him. They didn’t have to shoot him that much” (Lee 239). When Atticus tells his family the news, everyone is surprised by the number of shots the guards
The Trial of Tom Robinson In Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird, racism is explored, and you are able to consider every factor in Tom Robinson’s trial. Tom Robinson, a black male, was accused of raping a white woman in the small county of Maycomb, Alabama. The woman was he was accused of raping is named Mayella Ewell.
In Maycomb, Alabama they faced change. It is a dreary town without much action, then Mayella Ewell accused Tom Robinson of raping her. I went to the trial and the result the jury handed out was the wrong decision. Mayella’s and her father, Bob’s testimonies were both false and staged. It was evident Bob was the one who raped her.
This day August 26,1935 Tom Robinson was convicted of raping Mayella Ewell. She is a local Maycomb resident. However most of the “facts” in the case don’t make much sense, with the lack of evidence Tom Robinson could possibly be innocent. So what evidence presented did not add up the The first piece of evidence came from Sheriff Heck Tate Who said that Mayella’s
In TKAM justice is not applied equally, especially regarding white and non-white, and adult and child. With white and non-white one of the main reasons Tom Robinson goes to court for rape is because that he is a black man testifying against a white family. Even though the evidence obviously points to Mayella trying to kiss Tom Robinson, Robinson is still considered guilty because of his ethnicity. This is extremely unfair and biased because he is obviously innocent, and being persecuted for no reason other than the fact that the judge and people in the town are racist. With adult and child, Atticus tries to keep his children from the court.
The case of Tom Robinson in Harper Lee's novel "To Kill a Mockingbird" has been a subject of debate. While some believe that Tom Robinson is guilty of the crime he was accused of, there is strong evidence to prove that he is not guilty. There is no evidence of Tom doing anything, the evidence from Mayella could not have been true and Tom did not have a fair trial. Firstly, the evidence against Tom Robinson is circumstantial and lacks any real proof of his guilt.
He ran out right in front of the guards, and was shot down. Tom must’ve known that all eyes would be on him, and that there was no chance of him climbing over the fence fats enough with his one good hand. While, there might have been a shot if Tom had confidence in him and Atticus, we will have never
Tom Robinson and many others like him have been victims of racism in the United State. Tom Robinson was a character in To Kill A Mockingbird and he was falsely accused of a crime and then was later killed for it. Tom Robinson from To Kill A Mockingbird is the best representation of racism because of its historically accurate representation of racism when he was almost lynched and later judged by the jury on his case. Tom Robinson is also current accuracy in the fact that he was a victim of police brutality.
In the book To Kill a Mockingbird, the author, Harper Lee, uses the character of Tom Robinson to give her insight on the recent crime of Emmett Till. The trial was a very controversial case in the 1950s, involving the brutal murder of a young black boy, in racist Mississippi. In the real-life case, there is a woman named Carolyn Bryant who accuses Till of cat-calling and using vulgar language. However, Till was innocent, yet received punishment. Lee also recreated the persona of Carolyn into Mayella Ewell, who is the women that accuses Tom Robinson of raping her.
The Tom Robinson trial that occurred during the summer of this year was a result of an accusation of rape against Robinson by the Ewell family. According to Sheriff Heck Tate’s testimony, he was called to the Ewell residence on the night of November 21st. He found Miss Mayella Ewell beaten up and sprawled on the ground. “Found her lying on the floor in the middle of the front room, one on the right as you go in”(190). After questioning by Robinson’s lawyer, Atticus Finch, he stated that despite Miss Ewell’s injuries, a doctor had not been called.
“‘They shot him,’ said Atticus. ‘He was running.’ It was during their exercise period. They said he just broke into a blind raving charge at the fence and started climbing over. Right in front of them—”'(Lee 268)

The character Tom Robinson in Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird represents or symbolizes all the black people who are treated wrongly. Tom Robinson is a black man in the book. He was wrongfully convicted of raping a girl when he was only helping her.
In the novel To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee the term mockingbird symbolizes innocence in a person. In the novel it focuses on the fact that innocence, represented by the mockingbird, can be wrongfully harmed. There are two characters: Tom Robinson and Arthur “Boo” Radley that are supposed to represent the mockingbird. In the novel, Tom Robinson is the best example of a mockingbird because he is prosecuted for a crime he did not commit. Also, he was judged unfairly based on the color of his skin in his trial.
He was a very good person; he never misbehaved or did anything to harass others. He often helped Maella Ewell, but always refused to get paid for it. Likewise the real mockingbird does not do anything bad. It never steals from the fields, it does not nest in corncribs; all it does is sing and bring beauty in the lives of those it encounters. And as the mockingbird can not defend itself when it gets shot, a black man like Tom Robinson is completely defenceless in such a racist town and time, when he gets accused of rape by a white woman.
In the South of the United States in the 1930´s, the justice system was very unfair towards colored people. Colored people that were sent to court could not receive a fair trial because of the prejudice and racism from the jury. This happened all the time, especially in Maycomb Alabama. In the book To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, a colored man named Tom Robinson was convicted of assaulting a white woman just because of the color of his skin. Tom Robinson should have been found not guilty for many reasons.
In the novel, To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, the mockingbird is a metaphor for Tom Robinson. While mockingbirds are discussed in the novel as literal birds that harmlessly sing and entertain, Lee clearly uses the mockingbird to symbolize Tom Robinson. One reason that supports this idea is a Robinson is a innocent man who tried to help someone but then was convicted of rape. Another reason that supports the metaphor is Tom, the innocent songbird, was put on trial for his life and was convicted guilty. This inhuman action of murdering an innocent and harmless man who wanted to help is like the killing of a harmless songbird.both are innocent, and both murders are wrong.
