He goes into great detail while describing the gruesome murder of Simon. He also uses Pathos to develop Piggy's character. We feel bad for Piggy because he is a genuine human being, and the other boys constantly make fun of him. Golding writes “At once the crowd surged after it, poured down the rock, leapt on to the beast, screamed, struck, bit, tore...blood was staining the sand”(pg.153). This makes the reader feel empathy towards Simon, who has done nothing wrong.

If the boys would have never became so afraid of the beast and dying then some of the choices Ralph made may have never happened. The change in their emotion was beneficial and detrimental. The change moved the plot but it put the survivors in worse situation. Next, the boys started to become more pessimistic. The boys stopped hoping for a savior, and instead started thinking about surviving on the uncharted island.

The killings of Simon and Piggy can lead to mental issues, such as PTSD. A study by Matteo Fabris and Claudio Longobord states, “Homicide offenders have a higher frequency of PTSD than violent offenders who have not committed murder.”. Ralph, who was involved in both murders, would be greatly affected mentally and possibly develop PTSD. Another feeling Ralph felt was grief. On page 158 it says, “Ralph wept for the end of innocence, the darkness of man’s heart, and the fall through the air of a true, wise friend called Piggy.”

It is about a group of boys aged 7-12 that are stranded on an uninhabited island, how they survive on the island before they get rescued and how they face the problems that come simultaneously. Although Ralph may be a good leader and Piggy may be smart, they both have evil inside of them and want to be a part of Simon’s murder. Ralph and Piggy are nowhere near being savages at this point, but their love of death still shows, even if they regret it later. Their savagery is just the result of the evil human nature inside of them that is left unchecked by civil society. On the island, the boys do not have the benefit of civilization, so they revert to human nature and instinct for survival.

What causes savagery behavior ? Biology can make people do bad things. It can cause savage and immoral behavior. Just like in the novel The Lord of the Flies. In the book, The Lord of the Flies, by William Golding, he writes about character who are kids whose plane has crashed on an island.

Ralph and Piggy held onto order, with the death of Piggy “Ralph wept for the end of innocence, the darkness of man’s heart and [...] the true, wise friend called Piggy.” (Pg. 202) Chaos and savagery show the true darkness of man’s heart, bringing out the ugliest within us. This is a powerful ending to a meaningful book that wraps multiple themes into one statement. Including darkness of man’s heart and that order is chosen. We weren’t born in tuxedo’s, our appearance show’s how we have chosen to live our lives.

He supports his claim by saying “it could be more accurately be said to be about the male human condition. ”Simons’s purpose is to tell the readers that the Lord of the Flies doesn’t talk about all human nature, it only talks about boys human nature. He creates a direct tone for everyone who reads the book.

The young boys in the novel are at first unsure of how to behave with no adult present. As the novel progresses the boys struggle between acting civilized and acting barbaric.
