For example, relationships can be with friends, teachers, coworkers, ect., and there are different forms of relationships aswell like, mutualism, which is a relationship where all the organsims benefit, or parasitism, which is a relationship where one partner benefits and the other is harmed. In the short novella Of Mice and Men Steinbeck shows many positive relationships, an example of a positive relationship would be the two main characters George and Lennie. Throughout the story the reader gains knowledge of the experiences George and Lennie have been through together and how they have created a special type of bond. In the quote “I was only foolin’, George. I don’t want no ketchup. I wouldn’t eat no ketchup if it was right beside me… If it was here, you could have some...but I wouldn’t eat none, George. I’d leave it all for you. You could cover your beans with it and I …show more content…
Mitch and Morrie have a different type of relationship than the characters in Of Mice and Men, Mitch and Morrie have a friendship relationship even though they have a big age difference. In the quote, “Mitch, I said. Mitch is what my friends call me. Well, Mitch it is then, Morrie says, as if closing a deal. And Mitch? Yes? I hope that one day you will think of me as your friend.’’ In this quote Mitch feels as though he has made a deal to be friends with Morrie, the reader sees this conversation between Mitch and Morrie and see that this was the beginning of their
I could eat any place I want, hotel or an place, and order any damn thing I could think of. An’ I could do all that every damn month” (Steinbeck 11). This implies that George knows that Lennie is significantly weighing him down and making life harder and more inconvenient this will give a reader almost feel bad for both of the characters for George can not have a full potential life and Lennie is getting yelled at for the fact he needs someone to take care of him yet frustrated George still does not
This is shown when George has a discussion with Lennie Candy. “George, how long’s it gonna be till we get that little place an’ live on the fatta the lan’---an’ rabbits? Said Lennie, “I don’ know,” said George. “We gotta get a big stake together. I know a little place we can get cheap, but they ain’t givin’ it away.”
This ambition they have gives Lennie motivation, because George said if he gets in any more trouble he can’t take care of the rabbits that will be on their farm. Chapter Two 23. Notice the pairs in this relationship: George and Lennie; Candy and his dog; Curley and Curley’s Wife. What is the basis for each relationship? What are the positive and negative aspects of each relationship?
George from George Steinbeck’s “Of Mice and Men” made the right decision of killing Lennie in the story, while other might disagree. George shot Lennie in the back of the head to save him from the suffering and humiliation from a mad and revengeful Curley. George did this not out of hate, but out of the love of their friendship. “George raised the gun and his hand shook, and he dropped his hand to the ground again” (Steinbeck). George is struggling to come to terms that he is going to shoot his best friend.
In the Novel Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, a variety of relationships, as well as the characters in them, meet a grizzly end. This is apparent in the deaths of both Lennie and Curley’s wife. Lennie’s dependency on Gerogoe led to him not being able to function and make rational decisions on his own. While Curley’s wife had no support from her husband and gave none in return leading to a lonely and loveless marriage, causing her to seek companionship wherever she could find it. Their unhealthy relationships led to their demise due to the lack of support they were receiving from their partners emotionally.
In Steinbeck’s novel, Of Mice and Men, two best friends, George and Lennie, escape a life-threatening situation and begin a new life on a ranch in Soledad, California. They’re relationship is the equivalent to a bro hug: the appearance of it is emotionless, but inside they know they have eachother’s backs. While it seems as though George finds Lennie a nuisance, he displays the qualities of a good friend to Lennie. George shows his traits as a good friend through his protectiveness over Lennie. While George was having a conversation with Slim, Slim insults Lennie by calling him a cuckoo.
In a nutshell, the novel ‘Of Mice and Men’ is about two men who seem to offer completely opposite personalities, an example would state that George is smart and mature, and being the opposite of George, Lennie is the mentally underdeveloped, sluggish man we have grown to love and adore today. During the first three chapters of this novel, we have learned about many characters, regard of their personality and characteristics, we also learn that each character has his or her own past, regrets, ambitions, and needs. In this essay, I will explain how each need aspire to each characters, and how affects to others is as well. Examples such as Candy, Crooks, and Curley’s Wife. Curly feels unneeded in the world because he feels disables.
Unfortunately, Lennie’s dream gets crushed when he accidentally kills Curley’s wife. While the horseshoe tournament is going on, Lennie is by himself in the barn holding his dead puppy. When Lennie is in the barn Curley’s wife walks in. She then sits next to Lennie and tries to talk to him, but was told not to talk to her. But since she is smarter she is able to persuade him to talk to her, and she gets information that Lennie likes petting soft things.
In chapter two in Of Mice and Men, it discusses about how vigorous George's and Lennie’s friendship bond is. A substantial example of this is seen when George was explaining to the ranch boss (Curley’s father) how he took care of Lennie when his Aunt Clara died. Subsequently, both George and Lennie have been working, living, and traveling together. Whenever Lennie gets into any trouble or a difficult situation, George protects him and typically does not get furious about what Lennie has done. When George and Lennie make it to the ranch and begin to work, a gentleman known as Slim stated, “You guys travel around together...
When he got a piece a pie you always got half or more’n half. An’ if there was ketchup, why he’d give it all to you.” (101) This quotation from the book, shows the love that George had for Lennie. He loved Lennie like a brother, that’s why he didn’t want him to starve.
On page 12 to 13 in “Of Mice and Men,” George tells Lennie he could do so much more without him and he could have a real job. Lennie was saying how he could leave George if Lennie bothered him that much. He was saying he could find things that aren’t fancy to eat like things with ketchup. How he could
In the novella, Of Mice and Men, the author John Steinbeck illustrates a ranch in the 1930’s during the great depression where those who fit into mainstream society run the show, and those deemed “outcasts” are rendered useless. Steinbeck depicts characters with setbacks that diminish their value in the eyes of society, and contrasts them to characters that have no difficulties conforming to the norm. Crooks, being a black man isolated by his race, and Candy, a elderly man limited by his age and missing limb are examples of Steinbeck characters that experience hardships because of the differences. The poor treatment of Crooks and Candy by the other characters, and their chronic unhappiness in a place that doesn’t value them, comments on how
