Romeo and Juliet + Just One Day, Passion and Sacrifice Gayle Forman's Just One Day and Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet follow the star-crossed lovers trope with passion and sacrifice. Passion and sacrifice are a big hit in both stories and we can see them with similarities and differences. Romeo and Juliet were inseparable. They were together every second they had together. They were so desperate to be with each other that for them being apart it was so hard. In Just One Day when Allyson and Willem just met, they felt as if they’ve known each other since childhood. Yet Allyson and Willem were separated, they found their way back together. Their passion for each other helped with that. The passion that Romeo and Juliet had toward each other, …show more content…
Romeo and Juliet both sacrificed their life. Every time they saw each other they sacrificed something. When Romeo killed Tybalt he had to leave because he was to die when he was seen. Romeo left and Juliet was so desperate that she wanted to kill herself. Romeo left and she was forced to marry Paris, she was ready to die rather than marry Paris. When Friar Laurence tells Juliet the plan she agrees. She sacrifices her life because after drinking the potion she may not wake up. In the end Romeo comes to Juliet and drinks the poison because he had no desire to live. After Romeo dies Juliet wakes up and kills herself to be with Romeo in peace. Their passion for each other took their lives. In Just one day Allyson sacrifices her trust with her mother. Willem says, “But you leave tomorrow,” he says. I can hear the drumbeat of my heart echo in my temples. “I don’t have to.” (page 129). She wants to sacrifice one more day to be with him. She doesn’t tell her mother and leaves for Paris with a stranger. The similarities between Romeo and Juliet and Just One Day also have to do with the sacrifices made by the main characters. Romeo and Juliet sacrifice their life, however Allyson sacrifices her trust with her mother and leaves for Paris with a stranger. Even though both have sacrifices that were made, they may be in different elements of a whole. For example Juliet and Romeo sacrifice their life, but Allyson sacrificed her internal feelings with her close
In Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, two teens from feuding families fall in love at first sight. They get married in secret and try to avoid their families' feud, but it only furthers the problems. Romeo is banished from their ancient town, Verona, when he kills someone from the opposite family, leading to an arranged marriage for Juliet to try to lessen the sadness. In an attempt to avoid the wedding, Juliet fakes her death fooling everyone including Romeo. Romeo, unable to face life without Juliet, takes his own life, and when Juliet awakens from her staged death, she sees Romeo and takes her own life as well, thinking life will be unbearable without him.
Juliet wakes up and sees Romeo and kills herself by a dagger to her heart. The significance of this showing that the Friar in the place of power he had could have easily been a good guide for the two and helped them in a lot instead of doing the complete opposite. The Friar giving Juliet the sleeping potion and him being slow to tell Romeo made Romeo worried and thought provoked that his love, Juliet perished, in a sense that she did not. This started a ripple effect and put Romeo in a state of grief , he killed himself, and when juliet woke up she did

This is an example of the perils of excessive loyalty. In the play Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare warns about the dangers of extreme loyalty through the behavior of Romeo and Juliet. Juliet is one of the most faithful characters in the play, and also the most tragic, which is Shakespeare’s way of showing the dangers of acute loyalty. When Juliet visits Friar Lawrence after she fights with her parents, she says all the things she’d rather do than

Romeo and Juliet and their comparison of love creates a story like no other, a story that makes love feel irresistible in some ways. Romeo, a montague and Juliet, a Capulet, both have love for each other that is not meant to be, because of their family’s conflict between each other. Their family’s fight, have arguments, talk behind each other's backs and more that is unspoken of, but even through all of this both younglings of different sides love each other. The story that will be told today will be about both loves that Romeo has or once had, and how they both compare and contrast.
For instance, Juliet is forced into marriage with Paris by her parents. At first Juliet was agreeing with her parents but as we go deeper into the play, Juliet refuses “I will not marry yet, and when I do, I swear it shall be Romeo” (V, iii, 22). Juliet makes a big sacrifice for love. She is willing to desert her family to be with Romeo.
