The novel Sophia’s War by Avi begins with a twelve year old girl named Sophia. During this time was American Revolutionary War. Sophia’s life was changing drastically as her father was missing, her brother was captured, and the city where she lives was burned. A young man named Nathan Hale was caught being a spy and was sentenced to be hung. Sophia and her mother were there when his hanging occurred.

The conflict was between the narrator and herself. She knew the girl was not good for her but she did not care and wanted her anyways. She could deal with all of her annoying qualities because she loved the way she always looked. The other conflict I saw was Charlotte cheated on both the narrator and the boyfriend, Maurice.

Growing up, a change recognized by all, is wildly forgotten. This is the story of Catherine Called Birdy by Karen Cushman. It shows how the need for change, is discovered by experiences and exchanges by/from others. Catherine was a pushy, whiney, and selfish person, who only cared about herself. However, by the end of the novel, she is considerate of others, still pushes for her beliefs in a more polite and educated manner, and embraces the fact experiences have value.

William Moraley’s failure in the American colonies was not due to laziness but being at the wrong place at the wrong time. His hard work and motivation to better his life just didn’t work in his favor. Even before his journey to America, Moraley had a string of bad luck. After his father’s death, he quarreled with his mother for his rightful fortune. But unable to acquire these funds he was reduced to poverty.

In the story Ashes of Roses written by MJ Auch, point of view contributes to the overarching theme. The story begins with a young girl named Rose immigrating from Ireland, to the U.S., through Ellis Island. During one of the inspections, Rose’s little brother Joseph is denied entry due to the disease Trachoma. Rose, her two younger sisters, and her mother enter N.Y. by themselves. During the entry to N.Y. through Ellis Island, immigrants were required to have relatives in the city to pick them up.

In this passage, Charlotte Perkins Gilman highlights the theme that women must use their intellect or go mad through the use of literary qualities and writing styles. Gilman also uses the use of capital letters to portray the decline in the narrators’ sanity. This shows the decline in the sanity of a person because the words in all-caps is shown as abrupt, loud remarks. Gilman uses this method multiple times in her short story and this method was used twice in this passage. When the narrator wrote, “LOOKING AT THE PAPER!”, the major decline in her mental health was shown.

“If you hide your ignorance, no one will hit you and you will never learn.” (fahrenheit 451) In the book fahrenheit 451, by Ray Bradbury, Clarisse Mcclellan is a pure and innocent young girl who doesn't follow the “norm” of her society. In the short story “cold equations”, by Tom Godwin, Marilyn is also a pure and innocent young girl who is ignorant of the “norm” of her society. The similarities between Clarisse and Marilyn are impressive and the deserve further evaluation.

Book Summary In the book true confessions of Charlotte Doyle have read 18 chapters of it. Miss Doyle a 13 year old girl goes on a ship to Rhode Island to meet her dad, and was warned not to go on this ship. The reason she was warned was because the captain is mean and commits murder 2 times. The captain cursed and was mean to Miss Doyle

During the 19th century, marriage was generally based on social standards and materialistic commodities rather than sentimental attraction. Pride and Prejudice is a novel that analyzes women and their contradicting attitudes towards marriage. Charlotte Lucas is a character that believes happiness is not a necessity as long as she is financially stable. Similarly, Jane Bennet is practical about her economic state while still recognizing the value of true love. In contrast, Lydia Bennet is young, immature and blinded by the idea of being admired.
