During the Middle Ages, life was simple and based around the feudal system. Christianity was the most widely practiced religion and the Church was deeply integrated into society. The lords owned the land and peasants worked for them on that land. The lord would then protect the peasants and would pay the king, who was the most powerful noble. The towns that these people lived in were dirty as people disposed of their trash in the streets, which paved the way for the Black Death to become rampant. The Black Death then lead to high inflation and a shortage of workers, which lead to an economic collapse. The Black Death also lead to less faith in religion and a breakdown of the feudal system. The Black Death instilled fear into almost anyone occupying the places that the disease was in. This created a divide between the sick and the healthy. The social divide was so strong that most people wouldn’t even talk to other people who were sick. Wives left their husbands, a healthy person would flee from their sibling, and parents even fled from their sick children. Another way in which the Black Death changed society was that it paved the way for people to do whatever they desired. There were multiple reasons that people did whatever they desired during the Middle Ages. The first was that some people thought that satisfying their desires was the best way to combat the disease and the second being that a lot of lawmakers and officers died of the Black Death so the law was basically obsolete as no one was there to enforce it. People walked in the streets drinking alcohol and joking and would simply stop at a house and sleep there for the night. This changed the society in the Middle Ages because people could do whatever they wanted whenever they wanted. The Black Death had an immense impact on the society during the Middle
It was a crisis where no one knew why death kept coming. Not only did kill, but it impacted how life was lived, too. Overall, the black death forever damaged the social pillars in Europe. One of the social pillars was how family was, and with a crisis like the plague, family wasn’t the biggest factor in surviving. In the event that the plague was spreading, it scared others and led them to panic.
Many started to question the church and they started doing things that were seen as sinful, such as drinking, laughing and dancing all day despite death being all around them. To sum up everything that has been stated, the Black Death brought many positive and negative changes to medieval Europe that would end up in the downfall of the feudal system and changing the way society worked. The Middle Ages were a time where kings and nobles owned the land and serfs worked with little pay. Serfs were like slaves that worked on a farm (Doc. 1). They got one day to farm for themselves and the other six they were working for their king or noble (OI). Nobles and kings had knights called vassals (OI). Vassals were knights who protected and served kings and nobles in exchange for land (OI).
Moreover, the Black Death caused a gastric drop in the economy. Workers died, prices rose, and lords pushed laws so peasants couldn't demand higher wages leading to many revolts and rebellions. Due to the death of so many people, there weren't enough people buying products so the prices rose tremendously. Since the plague started killing millions of workers, lords would try force the survivors to work. But, the surviving workers began to demand higher wages since there were higher prices in the sales market.
The Black Death was so devastating to Europe because of the population change and the effects it had on people. The Black Death changed many people’s lives. For example, most of the population decreased, which is sad because their lives are gone. It affected Spain, France, and Italy in 1348; Barbaria, and England in 1349; and Poland in 1350.
The responses to the Black Death were vastly different from Christian and Muslim points of view. Although there were some similarities, most things varied based on how the religion itself thought of this disease. Death rates were still high and the disease was a very dangerous one. It killed up one-third to one-half of the world 's population at that point in time.
In 1347, Europe had just been infected by the Black Death. This epidemic killed over 2/3 of Europe’s population and lasted for over five years. The pathogen that caused the Black Death was Yersinia Pestis which causes many forms of plague. The Plague originated in central and south Asia then traveled through trade routes like the Silk Road, all the way to Sicily The Black Death killed most of Europe’s population, thus ending Feudalism by having not enough serfs and workers to run fields and farms. The land owners started to offer more for their work and labor, making the lower class more wealthy, and providing more jobs.
The Black Death impacted the economic and social balance of several monarchies. First, the people of Europe flogged themselves to renounce their sins and to achieve holiness. Secondly, the people disregarded the social balance, spiritual and secular laws. The Black Death not only broke up families, as the Romans
Introduction The research project I will be talking about is The Black Death also commonly known as the Bubonic Plague that happened in the 14th century in Medieval Europe. It was harmful to the people and the economy of Europe. The Black Death caused many people to die starting from China all the way to Europe resulting in a decrease in the economy and the armed forces.
Economic and Social Consequences of the Black Death The Black Death was no modest disease it swept all over Europe during the dark ages , had immense and annihilating effects and is in fact one of the most disastrous and destructive pandemics in human history. It rapidly spread through Medieval Europe during 1347-1351 killing more than one third of the population. In the midst of Italy’s overpopulated cities 50 to 60 percent of the population died while villages were completely swept of their people in England and Germany (Spielvogel World History and Geography 248-249). The Black did not only bring the tragedy of killing millions but it also came with many consequences such as economic inflation and extreme social distinction ("Social and Economic Effects of the Plague").After the intense shock of the Black Death, Europe’s economically declined, its internal affair were instable and its social systems
The medieval times lasted from the 6th century to the 16th century. The medieval era wasn 't a pleasant time for people to be alive as it was a time were punishments and trials were really harsh and dangerous. During this time, it was easy for people to commit a crime. Crimes that are now seen as something insignificant were perceived as a horrible offence such as sleeping on the streets and talking behind peoples back. The society in the medieval times were organized by the feudal System.
Throughout history, Europe has faced many adversities such as plagues that immediately impacted the people. The Justinian plague, which lasted from 541-549 AD, and the Black Death, which affected Europe from 1347-1351, are two such plagues that affected the societies of Europe. These plagues brought death tolls that affected the economy and military strength of countries. As a result of the Justian Plague, almost a third of the Byzantine population was wiped out. While many believe that plagues only brought about destruction, the plagues that affected Europe during the Middle Ages didn't only negatively influence the nations but also caused the region to enter a new age of prosperity.
The Black Death changed the lives of peasants in many ways. After going through all the pain and suffering, the peasants gained more freedom, rights and respect. The revolt against the government may have been unsuccessful but it still changed the feudal system, creating a better society. Workers became scarce when the Black Death striked. The peasants used this to their advantage against the lords.
power(Green). People started to rely on the church a lot less and instead decided to make groups based on different beliefs and ultimately changed the culture of the people during the black death. During the plague, because of the deaths that happened people also created many groups and movements that changed the culture of the people. These people started to rise up in the year 1348. These people tried to appeal to god by committing different acts for the forgiveness of god.
The Black Death caused people to question authority, which led to the breakdown of the political, economic, and religious spheres of traditional society in Europe and the introduction
