The Ancient Greeks have influenced American culture through their language, their architecture, and in the theater. Many words in the English language were derived from those of the Ancient Greeks. You can find many examples of Greek architecture in America today, especially in our nations capital. The Ancient Greeks were the first people to start theater and that is still very popular today through stage theater, and through movies. To begin, countless words and phrases found in the English language were obtained from the Ancient Greeks.

The fall of Greece to the Romans left Rome ruling much of the Mediterranean world but, Greece was not gone all together. While the primary language of Rome was Latin, they also learned to read, write, and speak Greek. The Romans copied much of Greek art, literature, and architecture. In art, the Romans copied many aspects of Greek art, they used portraits to relay Roman values, in literature the Romans wrote comedies for the stage, and in architecture Roman temples strongly resembles those of Greece with grand columns. After acquiring the Mediterranean, the Romans found themselves having great wealth, allowing them leisure instead of constantly working.

Two Authors, Two Books, Two Religions Nowadays, Greek and Roman mythology are considered fiction, but once upon a time they were known as very serious religions. Despite the similarities between the two, such as their gods, origins, and beliefs, they were known as enemies. They often fought over these similarities to argue which side was better. Not only was their conflict because of the resemblance to one another, they also clashed over differences such as their heroes and the characteristics of their gods. Knowing what makes them alike or what makes them different is a good way to understand the religion and also the way of life during the Greece and Roman times.
