How Did Herbert Hoover Fight The Great Depression

The world together with the American economy experienced downturns less than a year into Hoover’s presidential term. The Hoover hoped that the situation was going to improve but when the economy edged into the depression, Hoover developed and implemented a number of strategies to manage the situation. Hoover did not believe in direct influence by the federal government. The Hoover rejected proposals to change the value of the currency because he felt that was socialism. Hoover believed it was possible to improve the economy without interfering with American individualism.

The collapse of the economic had began in 1929. Herbert Hoover was known because he ha run for the food administration in World War 1. Alfred E. Smith was the four time governor in New York, he was Roman Catholic to win a majors party for president. On March 4,1929 they had an audience of 50,000 land lide. Herbert went to the White House that swept everything into stock prices.

Hoover was not interested in the affliction caused by the Great Depression. In fact, people’s way of life started deteriorating as they had no support from the government. His inability to face national upcoming crisis was a mistake to the US economy and the way down to massive depression. Hoover marked into law the Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act, which prompted an emotional decrease in global exchange; and also consenting to impose increments on homes, organizations, and checks. His business profession, and individual convictions, made him ill-suited to giveaway effectively with a monetary calamity as desperate as the Great Depression.

President Franklin Delano Roosevelt led the United States through some of its darkest times, using his own character to help the country overcome its struggles. In 1929, the market crash drove the United States into a decade-long craze, shaping America as a place of poverty and hardship for ordinary citizens. Throughout the early 1930’s, the United States struggled with the Great Depression and the disconnect it created between the government and the American population. Thankfully, in 1932, Franklin Delano Roosevelt took office. Herbert Hoover, the previous president, possessed a disbelief in the government's involvement in aiding the country in their financial struggles.

But it was true that his presidency was not very recognizable and it had a lot of backfire and different bad moments, the Great Depression had a lot to do with why Hoover’s presidency failed, the people had thought that since he couldn’t keep the stock market together that he would not be able to keep America together. Hoover getting undermined by Congress was definitely not what he thought was going to happen, thinking that he could just be able to rebuild America after the depression would have been easier if he and Congress had gotten along, in the end, Herbert Hoover was the thirty first president of the United States and had served this country and had made sure that it got administered America as though anyone would have if the stock market had happened to crash, it’s good to think back to Hoover’s humanitarian works because he did help out a lot of people in serious need, he did all of this but still having a complete income of millions of dollars working as a mining engineer, he was creative about his ideas and with that he created such things as the Hoover Dam,

Herbert Hoover was the 31st President of the United States. He was elected into office seven months before the stock market crashed in 1929. Hoover had to deal with the Great Depression during his Presidency and he was not re-elected, getting beat by Franklin D. Roosevelt. I believe that Herbert Hoover was an okay president, with more bad things during his Presidency than good. He was good because he got the Americans to believe him at the beginning of the Depression and he made the “Star Spangled Banner” our national anthem.

As unemployment increased and the Great Depression continued, President Hoover called a conference to try and find a solution to the economic crisis. He told business leaders not to lower the wages, but at the same time they did lower the wages which forced their businesses to close down and unemployment to persist. President Hoover also tried to help farmers and the businesses. The wealth during the 1920s left Americans unprepared for the economic depression they would face in the 1930s. The Great Depression occurred because of overproduction by farmers and factories, consumption of goods decreased, uneven distribution of wealth, and overexpansion of credit. Hoover was president when the depression first began, and he maintained the government’s laissez-faire attitude in the economy. However, after the election of FDR in 1932, his many alphabet soup programs in his first one hundred days in office addressed the nation’s need for change.

 Hoover is often blamed for not doing anything to end the Great Depression, but he actually did try to use the government to create infrastructure projects, thus creating jobs. Like the Hoover Dam and the Reconstruction Finance Corporation to try to end the Depression. There are two major differences between their approaches.  One is that President Roosevelt was willing to do more than President Hoover to combat the Great Depression.  Roosevelt was willing to let the government become more involved in the economy.

Herbert Hoover’s Presidency Herbert Hoover, the thirty-first president of the United States was very disappointing according to many people. Hoover had a significant impact on World War 1. For example, during World War 1, he organized a peace army that saved 350 million lives from starvation and disease. This is one of the many reasons why people chose Hoover to become the president. Herbert Hoover had a disappointing presidency because he did not overcome the Great Depression and the Stock Market Crash during his presidency.

President Herbert Hoover made efforts to try to fix the great depression. Many people disliked him as a president and complained he didn’t even care. However he at least tired to help people recover from the great depression. Some policies he created were the Hoover Moratorium, the Federal Home Loan Bank Act of 1932, and the Great New Deal. Hoover created the Hoover Moratorium to end the war debts however it didn’t help with the economic crisis.

The Great Depression was a time during 1929 to 1939, It was the longest lasting economic disaster. The two presidents in term during this crisis, Franklin D. Roosevelt and Herbert Hoover, approached this problem in different ways. Hoover’s idea on this was to have private citizens help each others, while Roosevelt believed the government should take care of its people with social programs. Looking at these ideas in more depth we can infer ways our country should go. Herbert Hoover served as president during 1929 to 1933.

In the following days of October, an incredible misfortune occurred. This event would soon be known as “Black Tuesday”. This unfaithful day was the day where the stock market plummeted leading to a great crash in the economy. This led plenty of individuals to become homeless and live in a state of poverty. Many of these individuals began to create their own society's known as Hoovervilles.

In 1933, Franklin D. Roosevelt became the president of the United State after President Herbert Hoover. The Great Depression was also at its height because President Hoover believed that the crash was just the temporary recession that people must pass through, and he refused to drag the federal government in stabilizing prices, controlling business and fixing the currency. Many experts, including Hoover, thought that there was no need for federal government intervention. ("Herbert Hoover on) As a result, when the time came for Roosevelt’s Presidency, the public had already been suffering for a long time.

The Great Depression was not only one of the defining moments in American history, but also one of the most difficult hardships Americans faced. During the Great Depression, which was ignited by the stock market crash of 1929, people faced unemployment, poverty, and changes in government the ultimately shaped America today. Many people believe that The Great Depression began when the stock market crashed on October 29, 1929 (“The Great Depression,” American Express). In the mid to late 1920’s the stock market grew majorly, the stock prices skyrocketed gaining interest from all kinds of people.
