Some people don't make it their priority and are willing to share their wealth, others can't control themselves and hoard it all for themselves, happiness isn't money, you can have all the money in the world and not be happy, all you need is people, people who matter. In the drama “A Christmas Carol” by Charles Dickens, Ebeniezer Scrooge turns into one of the money obsessed people, and is changed by his wealth. Ebeniezer Scrooge is visited by 3 ghosts, the one who shows him the most is the ghost of the present, he shows him how people live. His only family invited him to events and he would reply in “Bah Humbug '' When his employee was starving and poor, he wouldn't be forgiving and would cut his salary even if he was late. The ghost shows him how people live around him, they use his employee, who he mistreats, as an example. He sees his son, Tiny Tim, who can't control the movement in his legs; the ghost tells him that he will die if he doesn't change his ways. This is the first time in the story where Scrooge starts to change for the better. After he sees all of this, the ghost of the Christmas present disappears and the future appears. Scrooge was also a rude and mean person, who hated Christmas. He was a bad person but when he changed he did not change as much as the Grinch. Scrooge is a rich mean old man, who was given a chance to change, be his nephew inviting him to a Christmas party, or people going around asking for money to donate, but he never did any of that. While the Grinch didn't have an opportunity to change when everyone hated him, and even when he was invited to something, and started to change, they played sick jokes on him. Scrooge could have changed but he didn't, the Grinch only had one chance to change, and he took it.
He is warned by Marley that if he doesn’t change, in his afterlife he will end up just like him. He will be forced to eternally walk around with chains that are forged link by link due to his greed. (Page 246, paragraph 28) But however since Scrooge did not believe in Marley he tells Scrooge that he will be haunted by three spirits to hopefully help him change his ways.. The first spirit that appears to Scrooge is the Ghost of Christmas Past.
Before the ghosts’ visit Scrooge had a dismal and gloomy attitude towards Christmas because he tells his nephew that exclaiming “Merry Christmas” is absurd. After the ghosts’ visit Scrooge yells Merry Christmas out his window. Another example of Scrooge hating Christmas is before he doesn’t want to go to the Christmas party and insults it. On Christmas day, after the ghosts’ visit he decides to go to the Christmas party. The last example from before the ghosts’ visit is how he is mean to his clerk, Bob, and is mad that he is asking to take Christmas day off.
Scrooge can see multiple poor people stealing from the dead rich person so they could live happily with money. All the ghosts had shown Scrooge of his distraught past, the present, and his leading future that could affect him if he could
