A man named Ron France was a very good friend of Chris McCandless and did not know what has happened to him after the long trip they had worked together. Ron France was one of his best friends with him but did not keep up the date with him and later found out that his best friend has died in 1992. Ron was so mad he went to the church and gave away his slip that said he was a catholic and was now an atheist. Chris was a very smart man and learned from Ron but he did not know how to
The year is 1992, Chris McCandless, age twenty four, has disappeared into the Alaskan forest by himself. He carried with him about ten pounds of rice, a few of his favorite inspirational books, and a gun. Chris ran away from his family in 1990 just after he graduated from Emory University. Over the course of two years he drove, walked, and hitchhiked from Atlanta, Georgia, to Healy, Alaska. Almost four months after being dropped off at the Stampede trail, Chris McCandless' body was found, by a group of a moose hunters, in a bus he was camping in.
It was time to bring his ‘final and greatest adventure’ to a close” (Krakauer 168). Chris would have successfully walks out of the Alaskan wilderness but because he felt he did not need the outside world or a map he died alone of starvation inside the bus. Chris is great at surviving in the wilderness but he makes little irrational mistakes that end up costing him his life. When he leaves for Alaska Chris is having issues with
INTO THE WILD Jon Karkauer, in his bestselling book called “INTO THE WILD”, In (1996) argues that Into the wild is going to be about a life of Chris McCandless, a determine you who gave up his life to start an adventure to Alaska, nevertheless his body was find dead in Moose hunters bus. While I disagree with callarmen to a certain extent, I fully accept his claim that McCandless made a lot of mistakes because he wasn’t fully prepared for Alaska. I disagree with callarmen when he says that Chris was just playing crazy because McCandless was highly educated and was an experienced adventurer.
Due to his lack of experience and knowledge of living in the wild, he passed away. His body was found by a couple who were from Anchorage. Chris’ death was reported to be starvation. This ties into the fact that he gave the rest of his college tuition to a charity that helped feed starving kids. All of these actions committed by Chris exemplify what a romantic
For example, chris never told anybody when he was going to leave. That
But this does not define Chris for he was able to make friends on his journey to Alaska showing he was right in the mind and aware of his position in life. Chris was definitely a one of a kind being. Chris McCandless was a very antisocial person, always avoiding the social norms and following his own path. He had excellent grades but did not even want to go to college. Forced by his father, Walt McCandless, Chris attended Emory University where've made the deans list and graduated in four
He lived in the wilderness for about three months, his body was discovered by a hunter looking for shelter, on September 6, 1992. “I think that Chris McCandless was bright and ignorant at the same time. He had no common sense, and he had no business going
They thought that Chris was being selfish for abandoning his family. As an adult, Chris was able to make his own decisions in life and did not need to depend on his parents for guidance. After graduating from high school, Chris found out that his father had a second family during his childhood. Discovering this, Chris slowly became disconnected from his parents and stored anger within himself. This shows how Chris had the right to leave his family because they were one of the reasons that caused his unhappiness.
In the face of the fact that a lot of people have opposed opinions about Chris McCandless, I believe that he is one of the dumbest, oblivious, shallow people I ever heard of. I'm not sure why he made the decisions he made, he was a smart guy that graduated from college somewhat decided to throw his life away. Jon Krauker said “It's not always necessary to be strong, but to feel strong ( Into the Wild).” With that being said I respect Chris a lot for having bravery going into the wild and donating all his money to
Chris McCandless was in his early 20’s, he was the kind of that guy that wanted to learn and experience life without all of the material things. He wanted to be independent from his parents and friends so Chris did something that would be insane for most of us humans but to him, it wasn’t. He went into the wild of Alaska for months, in fact, McCandless even thought he could make it out alive at the end of his journey. As a matter of fact, he was known as being a risk taker and enjoyed being out and about in the nature side of the world. Many would believe that Chris McCandless went into the wild to purposely kill himself; however, I myself believe that McCandless did not do it purposely.
McCandless and McCunn's ventures into the wild had similar intentions and strategies. Although, the outcome of their ventures were slightly different. Both men displayed a certain degree of common sense. They were both friendly, curious, responsible, educated and intelligent men. Having fairly average lives, with big aspirations for their future.
"I think that Chris McCandless was bright and ignorant at the same time. He had no common sense, and he had no business going to Alaska with his Romantic silliness. He made a lot of mistakes based on ignorance. I don’t admire him at all for his courage nor his noble ideas. Really, I think he was just plain crazy."
Chris’s whole life exemplifies what it means to be self-reliant. After Chris finished college, he gave all his college money to charity. He eventually lived on his own for some years and goes into the wild to live by himself. While in the wild, he finds a bus and stays there where in time he ends up dying. Inside the bus on a piece of weathered plywood he wrote “Two years he walks the Earth.
Chris McCandless and Timothy Treadwell both ventured out into Alaska trying to accomplish their own goals. While in Alaska they both lived in the wild. Chris lived on a bus in the Alaskan wilderness living off the land (Krakauer 54). Timothy Treadwell lived in the Alaskan wilderness helping bears (“The Bear Man”). Both of these men enjoyed being in the wilderness, but sadly they both died in Alaska.
Christopher McCandless, the protagonist of the novel and film Into The Wild by Jon Krakauer, is not your average guy. Driven by his minimalist ideals and hate for society, he challenged the status quo and embarked on a journey that eventually lead to his unforeseen demise. A tragic hero, defined by esteemed writer, Arthur Miller, is a literary character who makes an error of judgment or has a fatal flaw that, combined with fate and external forces, brings on tragedy. Christopher McCandless fulfills the role of Miller’s tragic hero due to the fact that his tragic flaw of minimalism and aversion towards society had lead him to his death.
