The Anglo-Saxon epic, Beowulf, was written in around 500 AD. The author of this epic is unknown. It is about a warrior, Beowulf, that goes on a quest to fight monsters and achieve riches and glory. During this time, Christian monks made edited copies of literature to spread their religion, Christianity. The Anglo-Saxons lived off certain rules that was not supposed to be broken. In Beowulf, the hero faces three different monsters that breaks a rule that goes against the culture of the Anglo-Saxons. One of the monsters that broke a rule was Grendel. This was the first monster to break a rule. Grendel, “spawned in that slime, / Conceived by a pair of those monsters born/ Of Cain, murderous creatures banished/ By God, punished forever
Beowulf is an anglo saxon story about an epic hero it's a story with a kingdom being terrorized by a scary monster and the story about the monster spreads to other kingdoms and then this hero heard about it and lend his hand to help them out and bring back the peace to that kingdom. Beowulf in this story is good and grendel the monster is evil and his mom is too they terrorize the hall in which they host their celebrations and at night the monster would come and slay and murder each and every person that was in that hall that night. Aldred defines the extension of cinematic franchise potential in the digitalized format of Beowulf, which was expanded into a video game. This type of marketing is part of “economic motives” for developing Beowulf as a video game character as an “interactive” representation of the film (Aldred 382). Being an epic hero, Beowulf was very brave and battled many immortal creatures. On page 44, the narrator states, " He found them sprawled in sleep, suspecting nothing, their dreams undisturbed... He slipped through the door and there in the silence snatched up thirty men, smashed them..." Because the Anglo Saxons mainly lived on the coast of England, they feared that vikings or some other enemy will come attack them in the middle of the night. Grendel, this excerpt is a reflection of that fear,where Grendel is the enemy.
