The Social History of the Fountain of Neptune The decision of having the pagan god, Neptune, represent the city of Bologna was not an arbitrary one. During the renaissance period, Bologna was a large city that prospered from its hydraulic systems that would take advantage of three streams of which it had access. The usage of the streams ranged from simple everyday urban usage to both offensive and defensive capabilities in warfare. The first stream was a multifunctional torrent named Aposa that bisected the city from north to south. As a stream that ran through the city, it played a pivotal role in contributing to the city defenses through moats. The waters ran through a deep ditch along the city wall that spanned nine kilometers according to a papal architect named Antonio da Sangallo when he reviewed the defenses of Bologna. Aposa saw uses in the city in terms of sanitation. Its waters were not only used to clear blood from the central slaughterhouse and meat …show more content…
Laureti designed the fountain to be a symbol of the generosity and strong government rule of the papacy. In fact, the fountain was originally named “AQUA PIA” in honor of Pope Pius IV. Neptune was to be a metaphor for the Catholic Church. Neptune was designed with a strong body, but with an older face to reflect the wisdom of the pope. A similarity between rulers can be seen between Neptune and the Catholic Church as well. This is seen by the four cherubs pouring water that represent the rivers of the four continents known at the time. Later in August, Laureti contacted Giambologna, with a contract to sculpt the bronze figures and decorations for the fountain. The fountain was to be finished within ten months with an initial payment of three hundred scudi, but the fountain did not see its completion until after forty months in
Luke Gormsen AP Lang Ms. Clark 2/1/23 Role of Water in Gem of the Ocean In Act 1 of Gem of the Ocean by August Wilson, water plays the role of cleansing wrongdoings and washing away misdeeds performed against an individual. First, water and, specifically the act of cleansing, is used to symbolize forgiveness for wrongdoings and a way to obtain a clean slate in life. An example of this aspect of water is shown when Citizen Barlow seeks help from Aunt Esther to help him become a better person through her healing, saying, “They say you can wash people’s souls…I was gonna go to another city but before I had the chance I killed a man.
The book The Son of Neptune by Rick Riordan had many different themes, but in my own opinion there are three main themes that i think are very important. To start out with, friendship was one of the main theme, because on page number it states "You guys (Percy and Hazel) are my best friends. I trust you more than anybody." To point out, they couldn 't have freed Thanatos with this theme, they used friendship to their advantage. Sacrifice is Another theme that I think is important, because Reyna says "You (Percy, Frank, and Hazel) need to sacrifice yourselves and save our world.

These buildings possess very unique individual characteristic designs, which bears testimony to the societies from which they originate. However, they are also a resourceful database of knowledge in terms of their symbolism, rich heritage of their era and application to the present civilization.

Saturn is a Roman mythological figure who has inspired several artists throughout the world. Apart from literature and writings, many artists took the story of Saturn to interpret visually through their works. Peter Paul Rubens and Francisco Goya are the fine examples of taking the cannibalistic nature of Saturn and interpret it through their paintings. Walking through the museum of art, I instantly became mesmerized by such beautiful grandeur. There were a lot of paintings that caught my eye, one of them being Achilles Dipped into the River Styx, a painting done by Peter Paul Rubens with the help of his assistants. What stood out to me the most about this painting was the unique composition and the subject within it. This painting was actually a model for the first scene in the tapestry series Life of Achilles, the last tapestry series Rubens created. There are many aspects to this painting that really do amaze me, from the unique composition, to the subject it holds, and the cultural background in which it was created.

If you have never had the opportunity to see the Parthenon in Greece and the Pantheon in Italy, it’s possible that the similarity of the names would lead you to believe that they are the same or, at least, almost identical. While it is true that certain elements of the buildings mirror each other, there are major differences in their structures and functions. The architecture of each reflects the cultural ideals of the times. After the Greeks overcame the Persian invasion, Athens became the head of all of the Greek city-states. During this period, the country enjoyed peace and great prosperity.

I am reading The Son of Neptune by Rick Riordan and I am on page 103. He does not know anything when he enters a camp he shows the whole camp that he is the son of Neptune by controlling the water in the camp. In this paper, I will be questioning and evaluating.
The Trevi Fountain can be found in Rome’s historic center, it is at a meeting of three roads and was built in 19BC. The Trevi Fountain was built to supply water for Roman baths. The water from the fountain comes from the Salone Springs. “Legend has it that if you toss a coin into the fountain with your right hand over your right shoulder you will return to Rome.” It is illegal to take coins out of the fountain.
