Did you know that “a survey conducted by the Minnesota State High School League in 2007 and reported by the NFHS found that the average GPA of a high school athlete was 2.84, while a student who was not involved in athletics had an average GPA of 2.68.”( 10 Reasons Why High School Sports Benefit Students paragraph 5). I think that it should be a requirement to play sports because it helps with grades and it gets students involved in the school. I will be talking about how sports reduces the chance of athletes doing drugs and teen pregnancy rates going down. I also will be talking about what skills sports help build. for example sports give you leadership skills teamwork and many other skills. I think it should be a requirement to play sports because like i stated above Minnesota state high school league did a survey and with athletes their gpa was .2 points higher than a normal person who doesn't play sports. I would even include band or orchestra or even a debate team as a sport because it involves using the brain and thinking of what you have to say or do. “Participating in sports, like playing in the school band or competing on the debate team, are cognitively and …show more content…

According to " The Case Against High-School Sports" (2013), sports could create some study, health, and time management problems for schools and students. In this post, Amanda Ripley initially shows the benefits when involving in the high-school sports: exercise, sportsmanship lessons, some positive personalities, more fun and staying away from vices. She also writes some tales to inform readers that in the US, students are interested and enjoy in sports more than other peers in other countries. However, she claims that the high-school sports have negative effects on schools and students. Next, she gave some schools ' examples to show the problems when schools and students spent too much time and money in high-school sports.
This notion is supported by Dr. Daniel Gould, who believes that “Children who participate in sports have increased educational aspirations, closer ties to school and increased occupational aspirations in youth” (1). People against the funding of high school sports think that parents and society are placing more emphasis than ever before and, “[P]ressures athletic personnel to deviate on winning from the athlete- centered educational and personal development mission” (Gould 1). However, athletes strive to do better in class. Michael Lorenc, a high school basketball coach believes that “those who seem to have an overwhelming schedule where they’re playing maybe multiple sports, and high academic schedules, they tend to do better than those who don’t do anything extracurricularly” (Gray). Balancing sports and school makes athletes put more effort into keeping up grades while playing the sport they love.
For example, having to play a sport and the requirement to keep your grades higher than 70% will allow athletes to manage all these responsibilities. They will learn to do homework on time, creating time outside of school to do it and playing their sports. This will help them in their future to balance all the responsibilities and being good at time management. In addition, student athletes will acquire the skill of turning things on time. To have a high grade like 70% students will have to turn things when they are due and they will not fall behind.
Wagner (Kronholz 1). Whether it is positive effects in the workplace or in normal everyday life, sports have an effect on both according to research. “No one credited AP chemistry with preparing them for college, either. In fact, no one mentioned classes at all. Instead, they wrote that extracurriculars introduced them to new ideas and interests, taught them to study more efficiently, developed their social skills, and exposed them to caring adults.”
The Struggle of High School Athletes Athletes put in a lot of time and effort into their sports and for high school athletes it’s especially hard to juggle school, sports, and personal life. And for some people, it doesn’t even seem like the work pays off. Imagine being an athlete in high school and putting in all of the blood, sweat, and tears to try to make it to the next level with a scholarship or to even go pro, but it all gets washed down the drain because of one reason or another. High school athletes aren’t rewarded for their hard work and their performance in any way, so they should be paid based on how well they perform since they put so much time and effort into their sports. High school athletes are put at risk of injury which would
However, sports can show many more benefits than negatives that most likely have a slim to nothing chance of happening. The such benefits that sports can provide to someone in high school could be meeting new people, fitness benefits, business success, education prosperity, and etc. The first consideration on why sports should stay in schools is because many people that sign up for sports can led into various health benefits. For instance, in the article, “What in the Name of High School Football”, Hank Hill introduces the article by explaining, “The single greatest factor in preventing the nation’s #1 killer heart disease is regular and vigorous exercise, and that gets my vote.”
One of the biggest reasons schools should not have sports is to decrease the rate of academic failure. The text states that After school sports have been around for many years, some people think school sports are a bad idea, but others do not. According to researchers who disagree with the idea that schools should keep afterschool athletics, if the district removed extracurricular activities there would be more money to put in actual academic purposes, and it will also prevent injuries. Therefore, schools should eliminate afterschool sports to decrease academic failure rates, save money, and to lessen distractions. Body Paragraph 1 “In the spring of 2012, Premont Independent Schools District in Premont, Texas was going to be shut down by the state due to academic failure of students and financial problems within the school
Sports is also good for the body and the brain. Schools should not get rid of school sports because there is a lot of academic benefits. The studies show active students are more focus on work. Schools with big athletic programs tend to have lower dropout rates. If schools don’t get rid of sports.
So I think, sometimes, we don 't highlight the education that is in sports. In conclusion, sports should be banned from schools because of financial reasons, academic reasons, and student’s health. School’s don’t have any money to pay for sports, how will it pay for the school itself. Most kids only care about sports, they don’t care about their learning and grades.
We are solving the issues of athletes being better prepared for the next level. As a fellow high school student-athlete, I understand how much of a struggle it is to balance school and sports. They are both equally important to me, as well as many other high school student-athletes, and as we get older we are understanding how much harder we could have worked. This would be the solution to those flashbacks where you wish you could’ve done more. This service would provide high school students the chance to grow and become what they want to be.
Sports has always been a big part. They not only teach life lessons, but they can carry you to the next level, college. Not only do they help you get full scholarships to college, but also they have helped so many people to advance
Pedro Corralejo Argumentative Essay Final Mrs. Bell December, 2015 I think sports should still be allowed in school because sports that you play in high school. sports gets you ready for the real world and it helps you become a better person. According to the Scholastic scope article , Amanda Ripley states that having sports do cause “academic failures” to these students (10). The article also expresses that these athletics do cost millions dollars and since schools pay tons of money for the sports they don't have the funds for in class activities (10). In my opinion schools should not have sports because it costs too much money. Schools can become better financially, without sports.
