Though "High Noon" and "The Most Dangerous Game" are two different stories, they have some comparisons within the context, such as the characters, settings, themes, and the conflicts in the story. In the the Most Dangerous Game written by Richard Connel, a hunter learns how it feels to be hunted while be stranded on an island. In High Noon a retired sheriff learns the true meaning of responsibility and trust when he has to face a group of gunners, alone. In this essay, I will compare and contrast the stories and see what they they have and don't have in common to see how it affects the story. Although The Most Dangerous Game's Rainsford and High Noon's Will Kane have two different settings in their own stories that have similarities and differences they may affect the outcome of the story. "Rainsford gets ahold of a springy young tree sampling, he fastened the knife to it, and pointed it towards the end of the road". "As Kane realized the barn house he was in was burning from the lamps, he saw Colby sprint through the door with two guns and fires swiftly at Kane's direction, missing, Kane shoots him in the chest and kills him". In these scenes, Both the antagonist and protagonists try using their own separate setting …show more content…
In paragraph Three, I explain what the roles of the characters are and how I can be compared and it's affect on the story. In paragraph Two, I talk about the ways the conflict could be compared and how it changes the result of the resolution. And finally in paragraph One, I talk about the setting and how it changes the likeliness of fighting the antagonist. To convey the theme of competition can enhance a person’s character, Richard Connell has Rainsford succeed at the Most Dangerous Game. Rainsford shows through the big hunt growth because he knows strategies and ways to win the big hunt. The frightening event is when he has to build his traps to stay away from the General. The exciting is when he meets him back at the house and kills the General and win the Most Dangerous
Characters in book and movie are expressed in a way where they are brave and confident for what they believe in, but Rainsford shows how he is against General Zaroff by addressing his game as murder, and Kane tells his bride he does not run away from his problems. Having an antagonist in each of the stories show how evil they both can be, but in “The Most Dangerous Game” General Zaroff is more discreet about his game, and in High Noon Frank Mitchell wants everyone to know he is coming to get his revenge on Kane. The setting has the same idea with Rainsford and Kane being deserted and left alone, but it is different because Rainsford is stranded on an island with few people, and Kane is in a town filled with townspeople. For the most part, “The Most Dangerous Game” and High Noon have just as much similarities as differences even if they have nothing in common when you first see or read
Falling under the same umbrella, “The Most Dangerous Game”, Richard Conell described Rainsford’s situation, “The cossack was the cat; he was the mouse. Then it was that that Rainsford knew the full meaning of terror” (Conell 228). This quote explains that Rainsford, as a hunter, is also forced to participate in a life-or-death game where he is the helpless, targeted animal. Despite the main characters’ role, both of these plots are unusual and out of the ordinary; however, these corresponding plots provided a major resemblance between the two
In the story The Most Dangerous Game, written by Richard Connel, a hunter finds himself on an isolated island being hunted by a narcissistic and aristocratic Cossack. In the movie High Noon, by Carl Foreman, the newly wed marshal of a small western town has to face a convict charged with murder when he is released from prison. Throughout The Most Dangerous Game and High Noon, the theme and setting help convey the story in similar ways, but the differences of personality and opinion in Rainsford and Kane take them down separate paths. During High Noon, Will Kane has to decide whether or not he should kill Frank, just like Rainsford has to decide whether to leave the island or kill General Zaroff. "
High Noon, released in 1952, was a successful Western movie that broke stereotypes of typical Western movies. The film, High Noon, and the short story, “The Most Dangerous Game,” have two different conflicts that affect the story.
Because the conflicts of both stories are applied differently, the themes of each have seemed to be effected by this, which therefore may have caused them to contrast. In conclusion, though many other elements of each story relates to one another, the themes aren't one of them;
Imagine being chased down in the Old West by a killer or being chased in the forest by a man who hunts men, that’s what Will and Sanger had to go through in their respective stories. High Noon, written by Carl Foreman, is a film about a marshal who has to protect the town from a gang of criminals. “The Most Dangerous Game” is about a hunter who is trapped on an island and is being hunted by another person. Life maybe for the strong, but it can also be for the clever. Originator of the short story, “The Most Dangerous Game,” is Richard Connell. In 1924, Connell created the main characters Sanger Rainsford and General Zaroff. The two of them love to hunt, but the prey is bilaterality different things. When talking about the genre of action and adventure High Noon and “The Most Dangerous Game” are at the top of mine and many other people’s list of favorite short stories. High Noon is a story based on a chaotic day in the life of Will Kane, that involves many similar plots, settings, and patterns to “The Most Dangerous Game” where the main character Sanger Rainsford is also fighting for his life. Many may read both publishings and find no similarities, but when you start to take the stories apart the similarities are breathtaking. One of the most important similarities between the short stories, High Noon and “The Most Dangerous Game”, are that of the plot. Both tales portray a very clear plot of the hunter becoming hunted.
In the short stories “A Sound of Thunder” by Ray Bradbury and “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell, both main characters are great, experienced and risky hunters. Travis from “A Sound of Thunder” takes people through a time machine back in time to hunt dinosaurs. General Zaroff from “The Most Dangerous Game” has found a new interest instead of hunting animals, and he now hunts people. Both of these stories involve hunting out of the ordinary things and show why each character chooses to do so. Although Travis and General Zaroff are both great, experienced hunters, they differ in the game they hunt, their attitudes towards others, and their motivation for shooting people.
Most people when they hear “The Most Dangerous Game” they think of bull riding or other dangerous games that don’t involve death. “The Most Dangerous Game” is a suspenseful cliff hanging story that follows the days of a castaway on the island of a crazed hunter. Rainsford is a big game hunter who falls off a boat near the island of General Zaroff, a big Cossack general who is looking for an alternative to hunting dangerous animals but with a twist. Throughout “The Dangerous Game” Rainsford and General Zaroff both show examples of IRony and exert arrogance.
Action is a trait of commercial fiction but because it is not the central aspect of “The Most Dangerous Game”. Instead, the central aspect is the shock that the author uses to drive the story forward. Zarcoff, the general describes very shocking and terrible thing such as his “‘training school’” (Connell, 9) where he keeps humans to hunt. Compared to “The Most Dangerous Game”, “Hunters in the
“The Most Dangerous Game,” a short story by Richard Connell, dives into the discussion over whether animals have feelings, and if it is fine for them to be hunted for a human’s own entertainment. The main protagonist, Sanger Rainsford, an American author and hunter, and the antagonist, General Zaroff, a hunter as-well, have similar views in the concept of dominance and killing animals for their own pleasure. Throughout the events of the story, both characters, ironically, switch between being the ‘hunter’ and ‘huntee’ through the development of the story, and it explores the different strategies, thoughts, and feelings they experience in their situations. The theme of “The Most Dangerous Game” concentrates on the human tendency for superiority and power under any circumstance, no matter how inhumane. The theme is demonstrated through the beliefs and actions of the characters, along with the conception of the game.
Hunters believe animals are not capable of reasoning and they see them as something lesser than humans. Throughout time, these positions can change. The short story, “The Most Dangerous Game” written by Richard Connell, consists of General Zaroff being the hunter and Rainsford being the hunted. During the story, their positions change to the complete opposite.
