In 1951 a seven mile stretch of hills running north and south, the cries of men dying could be heard along with the retort of artillery and machine gun fire throughout the valley. This location of such destruction was Heartbreak Ridge, located just north of the 38th parallel the U.S. 2nd Infantry Division along with its NATO allies were making a push to take the ridge and hills to prevent the North Koreans and their Chinese allies from invading South Korea again. The month long campaign to take Heartbreak Ridge would push the U.S. and her allies to the breaking point but their sheer determination and fortitude would see them through to the end and to victory. In 1951 the Korean War has turned into a stalemate along the 38th parallel where …show more content…
This made it to where the Americans had to fortify the road along with removing the obstacles the KPK emplaced so they could use it to attack the surrounding valleys. On October the 10th the time had come to commit to the new strategy. A battalion of 30 American M4A3E8 Sherman tanks supported by artillery would begin their assault along the new improved road while the infantry would attack the main ridge to keep the enemy engaged. This push just happened at an opportune time for the U.S. They were able to catch the Chinese forces who were moving up to replace the KPK on the ridge. The thrust by the American armor caught the Chinese completely out in the open and a slaughter ensued. This allowed the Americans to push deep into enemy territory with only losing five tanks to damage. On Oct. 12 the Americans continued their push to take two surrounding hills from Heartbreak Ridge. This time it was 48 tanks with the 23rd Regiment supporting that would take the lead. Unfortunately, the Chinese learned from the previous days of being slaughter and had prepared antitank traps and brought up several antitank guns. They waited till the American forces were in “point blank” range and opened fire. This tactic would cause great destruction in the American lines, they would lose 18 tanks to this attack. However this new tactic would not stop the assault of the American
This surprise attack is just like when the Hillbillies had a surprise attack in the Revolutionary War, also called the Fight of Concord and Lexington. In the Fight of Concord and Lexington the British were marching through the woods and not expecting to get attacked because they just fought in lines. So that means that they weren 't going to fight people until they both saw each other and got into lines. The group of armed citizens couldn 't fight the British in lines, so they used Hillbillies to their advantage.
As tarleton 's men formed an infantry line they had began to advance in the war to start pushing the british back even more to make them fall back. The troops of light dragoons flanked the foot to reserve the compromise with the 71st
General Pakenham was also guilty of this. In one particular fight, Pakenham led his soldiers to their deaths because he refused to wait to attack. Remini says, “Arrogant and overconfident, he undoubtedly assumed that he was facing an inferior force of undisciplined frontiersmen who would run as soon as charging infantrymen with fixed bayonets came barreling at them” (140). If this was the attitude of the leader of the British soldiers, there is no question that the other soldiers must have thought the same. In reality, though, the Americans were “expert marksmen” and “disciplined soldiers” who would defend the city with all their might (71).
How did the U.S. contain communism? After the ending of World War II l, the United States and the Soviet Union rejoiced. The worst war in human history was over. However, the peace did not last.
With good tactics, Canada took Vimy Ridge within 4 days. The French and the British had previously attempted to capture the Ridge, but were both unsuccessful. By the end of the battle there were few German survivors, proving how successful the Canadians were. The battle of Vimy Ridge was also the first time that Canadians had planned an entire attack. 3,598 Canadian soldiers were killed in the early hours of Easter Sunday.

The patriots lost less men than the British had lost but even with the aont of men lost the British still had managed to take the hill.
The attack only took one hour and fifteen minutes to complete. This clearly indicates that the Japanese were exceptionally well trained. They were therefore able to rapidly execute the attack. A large amount of battles take days to win - the Japanese managed to emerge victorious in less than two hours. This emphasizes the notion that America was in fact taken by surprise since the Japanese attack was swift and precise.
The Battle of Iwo Jima was one of the bloodiest battles of World War Two. Iwo Jima had air stips that both the United States and the Japanese wanted to help them during World War Two. This battle did not end up going exactly as planned for either country. Both countries had their own strategy but neither succeeded. The Battle of Iwo Jima is an important battle to know about when discussing World War Two.
Although commonly referred to as the Battle of Bunker Hill, most of the fighting occurred on nearby Breed’s
