I chose to give a presentation on heart failure for my teaching project, how it’s managed, and what to teach the patient in order to stay out of the hospital. Heart failure is one of the most diagnosed illnesses in the world and will often be seen throughout most nursing careers. I selected new graduate registered nurses as my target audience to improve their understanding of heart failure prior to entering the health care field.
The objectives that I set for the project were for the audience to know why it is so important to understand CHF, to provide a thorough description of the illness along with each type of heart

The lesson started off with a small amount of awkward silence and it was easy to feel the nervousness in the room. However, I have given many presentations with my previous jobs and am fairly comfortable speaking to a wide range of audiences. The class quickly relaxed after I had everyone give brief introductions of themselves and what they expected to learn from the course. The PowerPoint was started as soon as the packets were handed out, and all questions were requested to be held until the end of the presentation. Each slide was given a time allotment of 3 minutes, with the presentation lasting a total of 50 minutes. The lesson went smoothly and received positive feedback on the type and amount of material that was provided. However, I would prefer to add more visual guides if I were to teach this subject matter again. For instance, videos showing clearer pictures of heart failure would provide the class with better visualizations, rather than the quick video clips that were on the PowerPoint slides that were shown. Also, passing around actual heart models for the class to visualize up close would be ideal for the more tactile learners in the
The main aim of every study is to find solutions to a certain problem in the society. It is through the understanding of certain challenges in the nursing profession and society in general that long lasting solutions can be realized. The purpose of this paper is to critically analyze and summarize the results of a qualitative and quantitative peer reviewed articles discussing the issue of hospital readmission and patient education. Qualitative study Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) is a chronic, serious and pricey health condition with a huge medical, social and economic impact. Caring for patients with heart failure is not only about treating the disease’s physical symptoms; it involves educational, supportive, emotional, and cooperative care
Therefore, an phenomena of interest is to investigate how a comprehensive heart failure educational follow- up program will aid in decreasing hospital readmissions within 30 days of discharge?
1.Congestive Heart Failure also known as (heart failure) is a life threatening condition. Heart Failure is caused when someone has a weak heart. It usually happens when the bodies blood pump to the heart is not pumping blood to the heart correctly.
Pausch received at the end of his lecture, it would be fair to conclude that it had a great impact on his audience. This lecture portrays how the effective use of basic presentation techniques can create a spellbinding effect on an audience. Dr. Pausch’s lecture gave me a new perspective on life and my career goals. One of his quotes that stood out for me was: “Wait long enough and people will surprise you”. I completely agree with this based on the experiences that I have had as a student at Michigan Tech.
The meeting was awkward because none of us knew each other beyond the classroom setting. I came to this meeting expecting to begin brainstorming and considering presentation topics right away in order to get a head start on the presentation. Unfortunately
Making New Hearts: Regenerative Medicine and its History Introduction A man inflicted with cirrhosis sits in the waiting room of a hospital, waiting to hear if they will be granted the liver of an organ donor. They have been on the waiting list to receive a new liver for almost six months, and if they don’t receive one soon, they will die. With so many factors related to seeing if an organ from a deceased person is compatible with the person in need, it makes receiving a new body part extremely difficult.
Heart-Healthy Activities for Elderly Parents for Heart Month in San Diego County Heart disease has been a growing concern in the United States for years. This is likely the result of major lifestyle changes in the modern age. Countless people live sedentary lives, and stress levels seem higher than ever. Because the problem is so widespread, the American Heart Association now recognizes February as Heart Month. One of the goals in doing this is to teach people that they do have options in terms of averting this deadly disease.
I have been asked in the past to give a class per say on a certain piece of equipment to the nursing staff at a hospital or whoever is going to be using it. The first time I did such a class, I wrote what I
My current practice setting is primarily based out of the hospital and quality care measures as well as cost analyses are certainly of big concern this day and time. Providers are constantly making sure that all "quality indicators" are present on each and every cardiac consult that is encountered and making sure that the documentation supports the reason why a certain "quality indicator" is not indicated on the individual patient. What I find thought provoking is that although I may discharge a chronic systolic heart failure patient on all the core measure medications and they demonstrated improvement while in the hospital for the 3 to 4 days that they are allowed for that admission, they still bounce right back into the hospital for "congestive
3.Choose one aspect of your presentation and tell me how you will work to improve it for your next presentation. Be concrete. Offer suggestions that you will use for improvement. I always get anxious before giving any speech or presentation. I may not maintain eye contact with the audience to cop up with my anxiety.
Cardiac defects are rare occurrences, but the management and nursing care of patients that are presented with these complications are incredibly important. The nurse has the opportunity to provide direct care for both the patient, and their parents. Nurses are responsible for providing support for parents by, providing them with further information of their child’s condition, answering questions as well as being available for emotional support. An atrial septal defect is described by the delayed closing of the foramen ovale.
To start off, I believe that I had a decent oral presentation, good body language, and provided a good channel of communication. From what I remember, I did not use filler words such as “um,” “uh,” and “like” too often, and also did not pause to find my place in my speech. This allowed my speaking to flow without any unnecessary respites in my presentation and meet the timed goal of less than 5 minutes. Pertaining to my body language, I was able to prevent any bad habits such as swaying my body, fidgeting with my clothing and hands, and unneeded handling of my note cards. I had a sufficient amount of hand gestures towards my audience and my Powerpoint.
I worked as teaching assistant for Human Physiology at UCSD. Dr. Cooke, the instructor of the course, implemented various in-class techniques as part of an education research project. My goal was to improve the students’ performance by utilizing effective teaching methods and keeping track of their progress. As a teacher assistant, I supervised in class discussions and facilitated the process of learning by addressing students’ questions and concerns. I also led a weekly discussion section, held individual office hours, and ran exam review sessions.
Presentation 1 The first assignment was to prepare an informative speech about our personal experience. The time limit set was 3 minutes. No additional visual or printed material was required. The presentation, unfortunately, was delivered via WebEx platform, and not personally to the audience, which in my opinion has some negative impact on my performance.
• Be sure the participants understand that, again, they will not be using any notes while giving the presentation. Ask participants to present – and record each presentation – inform the participants that they will be stopped at 1 minute. During the feedback processes in the classroom and the video review, be sure to focus on visual delivery skills as well as other skills discussed and practiced up to this
