College to today 's youth is a very exciting time. It 's now the time where young adults start to take on full responsibility for their lives, and all the many changes that are happening as they begin their college career. One major responsibility many students seem to negligent when entering college is their health, especially in the case of diet and exercise. On today 's college campuses food is everywhere, but the opportunities for exercise are few. With recent increases in college enrollment in today 's society, college students have become one of the most vital and influential parts of the population. Many of what students learn in college become part of their core lifestyle choices later on in life. (2013) Many of the sedentary and lack of physical activity among college students can also stem from the lack of awareness. In 2007 the Healthy People initiative started a sister campaign known as Healthy Campus. The main focus of Healthy Campus was to help improve the health of staff, students, and faculty on campuses nationwide. Healthy Campus 2020 deals with a lot of areas concerning college campuses mental and physical health. In terms of physical activity, Healthy Campus promotes the increase in the number of students who participate in moderate to vigorous physical activity. Their target range for this goal is 53.5% with a 10% improvement from the previous year. ("Student Objectives", 2016) Another major resource in boosting physical activity on campuses is a lot of the campuses own personal resources. Many college campuses have gyms built for both student-athletes as well as non-athlete students. Another initiative started on many colleges is the requirement for physical education credits prior to graduation. Now before students graduate they must have taken at least 1 physical
Most high school athletes across America share one common aspiration: play their sport at the next level in college. For a select number of fortunate athletes, that dream becomes a reality when they commit to a school and sign their letter of intent. But are they really fortunate? College athletics are oftentimes not as glamorous as one would think. The transition to college is not a walk in the park, but add a rigorous summer conditioning program, two-a-days everyday, and the pressures of coaches you have yet to impress, and you have a recipe for disaster.
Avery is neither a scientist nor a doctor. Although, common sense and substantial evidence can tell us the major causes of weight gain and psychological trauma can be attributed to students having to stress about grades, financial responsibilities, and one’s future. The validity in connecting students gaining weight from stress is the infamous freshman 15. The article “Freshman 15: College Weight Gain Is Real” by Jennifer Warner is a recent study that proves that nearly one in four freshman gain at least 5% of their body weight, which is approximately 10 pounds, during the course of their first semester.”
Health class covers a wide variety of personal health information and is quite useful. However Obesity and Heart failure related deaths are leading at number one for the biggest killer. Don’t you think students should know that. There should be more concrete hard truths revealed to all the students before they go back out and get a greasy slice of pizza in the lunch line every day at lunch. Should these facts scare them?
Being a student at Frostburg State University has allowed me to participate in a number of student organizations as well as leader positions and experiences. As a current mentor in the Read to Succeed program, which is geared towards helping young local students understand and develop fundamental reading and math skills, I have learned the depth and importance associated with maintaining an active role in the community. Such an experience has also helped me to enhance my own leadership skills as the current president of the Student Health Advisory Committee (SHAC). This student organization partners with the university’s health center, Brady Health Center, in providing and promoting health to students and members of the community. As president, I not only work side by side with the diligent members of the organization in advocating healthy lifestyle choices to students, but
In the short term, during my remaining high school and college years, I plan to continue playing tennis as a sport for school (as well as recreationally in my free time). Additionally, I plan to continue practicing core activities, such as push-ups and crunches 4 -5 days a week for at least 10-15 minutes each day, and I plan to start jogging for 3-4 days a week, for 20-30 minutes each day. In the long term as an adult, I plan to continue this routine, and also start lifting weights 3-4 days out of each week, in order to maintain good muscular strength. I hope that by creating and pursuing these goals now, I will be able to maintain good physical fitness for my body, far into my life as an
These classes promote health and team building skills. Physical education classes can help students maintain a healthy lifestyle especially during the many changes they are experiencing during

Promotional Strategy The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (2011) note on their website, health care marketing is different than traditional marketing. They explain that health care marketing is “creating, communication and delivering health information and interventions using customer-centered and science based strategies to protect and promote the health of diverse populations” (Health Marketing Basics, para. 1). This is essentially how Denver Health promotes its services to the public. Denver Health’s marketing communications mix includes most categories Armstrong & Kotler (2015) describe in our text (p. 368-369).
Annotated Bibliography: Joe Noble American Physical Education and Sport from 1941 to today The purpose of the chapter was to review the changes that have occurred in physical education since World War I. When a large percentage of men failed to meet the military fitness standards physical education become focused on improving the health and fitness level of population for the war effort. This causes the tendency for physical educations to adapt physical training programs for military preparedness through World War II. Decades following World War II the Korean War and the Kraus-Weber Tests implied that American elementary school children were much less fit than their counterparts in other nations. This caused the physical education to focus on physical training.
Game day has finally arrived. College scouts watch every move the varsity athlete makes, the plays he executes, and how much pain he can endure. As if nerves are not enough, the athlete has just finished a strenuous workout in gym class. For years, varsity student athletes have tried to balance school, sleep, sports, and homework. Participating in gym causes unnecessary stress and strain on an athlete 's body and mind.
The education system in America has put limited funding in their physical education program leading to a decrease in enrolment numbers as well as providing inadequate standards of nutrition and health. Comparatively Sweden has made physical education a compulsory subject placing an active focus on developing healthier attitudes in students, this promotes healthy living post-graduation and lowers prevalence to type 2
Why is my topic important? My topic is important because with unappealing foods, kids are starving themselves at school. Students should have more voice in what is served on the lunch menu because a better menu means more money, less kids who don’t eat, and less waste. With all of these factors combined we can make a difference in school lunch policies. Students are more often than not complaining about school lunches.
The arguments presented by the authors are thought-provoking and they do a first-rate job of giving the reader an unbiased perspective on The Freshman 15. I would recommend this article for any college student or an individual who is interested in eating disorders, health and fitness, or the effects that Universities have on incoming
I’m interested in joining the Student Wellness Commission because I strongly believe that health, both mental and physical, is of the utmost importance and I want to encourage other students to recognize this as well. Starting as early as middle school and lasting about halfway through high school for me, the intense culture of competition was detrimental to my overall wellbeing‒ I was constantly tired and on the verge of breaking down because I neglected my body’s basic needs for an adequate amount of sleep and a healthy diet. It took me until the end of my sophomore year of high school to realize that though my classmates would engage in near-bragging contests to see who was getting less sleep due to strenuous homework loads and extracurricular
College students need to be fed with the right foods and nutrients. Imagine being hungry and having tons of homework to do or have to study for a major exam, it would be pretty hard. It would almost feel impossible to get focused and actually complete your homework assignment or finish studying for that test. You also won’t have a lot of energy because you’re body won’t have the right foods to help you maintain that positive energy. So many college students live off Ramen and honestly it’s not very good for you.
