Introduction: A complete ban on guns for the common people is in our best interest — no matter what the intent may be of using said weapon. None but those appointed in great authority (police, etc.) shall own firearms, and those who do so illegally are to then be punished by law, according to the laws set in place. Narration & Refutation: Since late 1789, as the Constitution was still being taken into total effect, the American people have held the right to legally keep and bear arms; this right has been altered multiple times already since its existence. The American people at that time lived in a world far from what it is today: no one can deny that. What you may deny, however, is that we still necessitate the right to possess these firearms …show more content…
The average cost of one, single gun crime can even go up to $1.79 million. And, in case you didn’t know, it’s us — the taxpayers who are paying that fee. So, then, not only is it safer without each individual owning a firearm, it’s also much cheaper — and, therefore, more practical. But, back to reality, where, in America, three percent of the population own half of the civilian guns; this may not seem like a problem now, but if robbed or accidents are to happen, you would surely see why this is can be a large risk factor. In fact, according to multiple surveys, 44% of Americans personally know someone who has been shot by a gun. Many of the systems in place now revolving that of gun ownership are simply not enforced, which itself is already an incredible hazard. The majority don’t even conduct a mental health screening, much less performing a universal background check since the systems in place haven’t been funded for …show more content…
If we are so careless as to not make even one sort of actual safety precaution, there is no reason we should have the ability to own these weapons in the first
Nashrah Quadri 2171290 Oral Communication 101-103 Gun Laws 3/11/18 Guns have been a part of our society in America since its birth. The Second Amendment of the United States protects the right of the people to keep and bear arms. It was adopted on December 15, 1791, along with the rest of the Bill of Rights. Throughout history, citizens of America have used for many different reasons. They have used firearms to protect the nation, protect their families, hunt for food and engage in sporting activities.
The Second Amendment of the Constitution of the United States clearly states: “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed.” Obama’s effort to enforce this amendment may leave America in a frantic position. Stricter gun laws would not benefit America because they would restrict the rights of citizens, restrict the reliability and freedom citizens deserve, and would do nothing to prevent killings from occurring. Recently, laws have been established within states that mistreat
When it comes to the topic of guns, most of us will readily agree that it is our constitutional right to bare arms. Where this agreement usually ends, however, is on the question of as AR platform and assault rifles. Whereas some are convinced that we should not be able to own them, others maintain that we should be able to own assault rifles. The term “assault weapon” is an invention of pro-gun control politicians that demonizes semi-automatic rifles with certain looks.
As American subjects, we have a bigger number of rights and flexibilities than whatever other gathering of individuals on the planet. The originators of this nation built up these flexibilities since they had beforehand lived in nations where the general population did not have the same number of rights. One of these rights is expressed in the Second Amendment to the Constitution, which announces "the privilege of the general population to keep and remain battle ready, might not be encroached. " But rather throughout the years different laws and directions have encroached upon this privilege. The explanations behind these laws are to get the firearms that cause wrongdoing and wounds off the lanes.
Some days crime rates are up and then the next they are down, what we do know is that America is becoming safer. In 2005, 11,346 persons were killed by firearm violence 477,040 persons were victims of a crime committed with a firearm, (National Institute of Justice). Surprisingly, a lot of gun violence in America is related to self defense. Between 1987 and 1990 it was found that guns were used in defense during a crime incident 64,615 times annually. This equates to two times out of 1,000 incidents (0.2%) that occurred in this time frame.
You can protect yourself with other items that won’t kill anyone risking your safety. In all honesty, I think that only the US battle force should be allowed gun permits because they know what they’re doing, anyone that hunts should be certified and evaluated by the army. The second amendment is not an unlimited right to own guns. The second amendment states that there should and will be no possession of firearms for anyone with a felony and/or a mental illness. Yes, the second amendment protects individual gun ownership but is it not obvious that people should not sell firearms or weapons to anyone that seems challenged or incapable of keeping their community safe with a gun?
A gun is made to be used at its full capability. Weapons are used also for protection over your family,(“A ban on assault weapons would not reduce crime”) also said, “ California 's murder rate increased every year for five years, twenty-six percent total. That is a perfect example of why some people feel the need to keep a gun or firearm in their homes, they are aware of the murder rate due to the media. People do not want to take a chance on someone hurting them so they feel the need to have one, witch is understandable because the murder rate has raised in the last 5 years there. You don’t want your firearm to not be able to be used to its maximum strength at a time if someone was to try to harm you, you would want it to be able to be used at its maximum strength to be able to protect you from harm.
Back years ago, guns were mostly for war and hunting, but now there is an increase in guns being used for more for just hunting and war. Guns have also changed in size, shape and how fast they can shoot. Our military and government are the number one source that works on keeping us and most of our rights protected, but they also allow for guns to be in the hands of civilians. With this, some civilians shouldn’t have access to guns. But, there are so many loop holes, that
Although firearms are still highly debated as dangerous or, it has been proved many times that because of guns, the number of crimes have been reduced; plus having these firearms create a sense of safety and
We have traded the respect for life over clinging to our guns out of the fear of losing them. If we once again learn to appreciate the value of life, society will then decide to do whatever is right to protect life, as this right should supersede any other right afforded to us by our
now not only is it risky for just everyone to have a gun, it's also unsafe for anybody (educated or not) to stroll round, armed, always. There had been serious incidents where guns have been unintentionally fired, however still caused a huge hassle once they did. In a current study they have observed that, “as opposed to being used for self-protection, guns within the domestic are 22 times more likely to be concerned in unintended shootings, homicides, or suicide attempts. For every one time a gun in the domestic turned into used in a self-protection or legally justifiable shooting, there were 4 accidental shootings, 7 criminal attacks or homicides, and 11 tried or finished suicides” (Kellermann, A. L., "accidents and Deaths because of Firearms within the home"). Having weapons available to anyone in a home at any time can lead to serious troubles, accidents or
I think it is clear that America’s lenient Gun Laws have no doubt been a huge factor on the staggering amount of gun violence for a long time. I do believe, however, in people’s rights to defend and arm themselves, it is part of their constitution, I just feel that it is necessary that the laws regarding the 2nd amendment need to be reinforced and should introduce some restrictions to ensure that only the people who are mentally capable of wielding a firearm, without causing harm to society, should be allowed to acquire one. I do also recognise that there are already a staggering number of guns in the possession of the general public, and I feel that the only way to tackle this issue is cultural change in America, changing the views of individuals on the idea of guns, but change is always
They can be used to defend and protect as well as to threaten and kill. Guns and crime go together. A study conducted by the American Journal of Public Health found that the legal purchase of a gun seems to be associated with an increased risk of violent death. Every year, Americans are shocked by numerous mass shootings and senseless acts of violence involving guns and weapons. And, every year around 100,000 people are shot among which 18,000 are children and teens (Lane, 131).
Gun laws give too much power to the government and way less from the people, which will lead to government corruption. And, stated by ClearPictureOnline.com,”Guns don 't kill people, people do. We need to concentrate on the values and morals of our citizens and at the role the media plays in glorifying violence and the lack of respect for law.” (Shootout: Do We Need More Gun Control Regulations?) What people don 't understand is that they are taking away their own freedoms with Gun Control.
Owning guns in the United States is not a novel concept. What seems to be changing is the awareness of the American people of the dangers guns possibly pose; heightened awareness brought on by news breaking stories about large mass shootings have sparked major controversy in regards to the nation’s gun regulations and accessibility. In a Ted Talk given by Dan Gross: Why Gun Violence Can’t be Our New Normal in Vancouver, British Columbia, Gross boldly states his unwillingness to accept gun violence as a societal norm in the US and in his Ted Talk argues that gun violence may be greatly reduced if guns were managed and regulated properly, and by putting in place Brady background checks nationwide to ensure that guns will truly be kept away from
