Gun Control Hypocrisy America has recently seenseveral shooting and indiscriminate firing incidents in schools, malls, and religious place. Do the U.S. people need gun control laws? Should everyone own a gun for self-defense? There are many questions that rise about gun control, but most of them do not have answers. According to the gun violence archive, total numbers of gun violence in 2017 are 61,539. The numbers of deaths are 15,596 and 31,189 injuries, and most of the victims are teenagers. Since gun violence is a hot topic and circulates in the media. Jon Stewart is an American comedian, writer, producer, political commentator, actor, and television host gives part of his daily show for gun control topic. "If we talk about gun control after a mass shooting, it is wrong. However, we can talk about having a lot of guns after a mass shooting"(Jon Stewart). Stewart presents a former Minnesota 's Governor Jesse Ventura view of point about guns controls. Ventura explores his illogical point that many people killed by drunk drivers than people ask the car company to stop making cars. In his response, Stewart comments that "we have to strict blood alcohol limit, raise the drinking age, enforcement penalties for the drunk driver that help bring drunk driving rates down; I don 't know by 2/3 in a few decades". Stewart comment seems funny, but he uses the same logic that Ventura uses to prove his point. If people take steps to lower the number of drunk drivers, they take steps to limit child deaths in auto accidents, accidental poisoning, etc. Why people will not take steps when it comes to gun control? Mostly pro-guns extremists use slippery slope fallacy in all their debates, and they look for sly opportunities. Another example is the Texas reprehensive Louie Gohmert, he says that "article came out this week the massive number that are killed with hummers" or, Lapierre says " the only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun" which is a completely crafty statement. Stewart nicely comments on both these illogical statements that prove his point and shows his ethos and …show more content…
There are still limitations on commercial speech, libel, fraud, and protection of intellectual property. People can worship as they wish, theyown property, and people do everything but within limits.People are not in eighteen centuries anymore, they cannot burn witches alive, they cannot sacrifice even welling volunteers, and they cannot lynch colored people. They must follow a law, safety codes, environmental restrictions, and so on. The NRA has only 4.3 million members, and the United States has 320 million populations. How a small percent of a society makes all these problems for rest of the people. America really struggles because people of this country tend to be faith-based, rather than evidence-based, and their fantasies mean more to them than the real world. It is the 21st Century with advanced technology, and there is no needed to scarify human, animals, and things for good lucks and bad lucks. In addition, people do not need having their personal guns, or they claim the ownership of this evil phenomenon. The United States of America has trained polices and expert armed forces, and they enforce the law and protect people 's rights. If everyone has personal gun privilege, people do not need these many enforcement law officer and security forces, and why they spend their tax
Not everyone is able to handle a firearm responsibly, and not everyone should have access to all firearms. In the article, The Hard, Simple Truth about Gun Control by Carl T. Bogus writes, “The goal is to devise a system of firearm regulation that allows responsible people to own guns and denies them to irresponsible people”(Bogus 88). One option for gun control is to regulate the sale, purchase and possession of firearms through legislation. This could include measures such as background checks on all gun purchases, restrictions on certain types of firearms, and restrictions on the number of firearms a person can own. Legislation can be effective in reducing gun violence if it is well drafted and properly enforced.
Some days crime rates are up and then the next they are down, what we do know is that America is becoming safer. In 2005, 11,346 persons were killed by firearm violence 477,040 persons were victims of a crime committed with a firearm, (National Institute of Justice). Surprisingly, a lot of gun violence in America is related to self defense. Between 1987 and 1990 it was found that guns were used in defense during a crime incident 64,615 times annually. This equates to two times out of 1,000 incidents (0.2%) that occurred in this time frame.
In a nation of pioneers and settlers, where we capitalize upon a bear wielding a firearm to represent “our right to bear arms” there has come to be quite a bit of bloodshed because of that right. Fear has been interwoven into the school system, a kind of fear that even the greatest school safety measures cannot prevent. Such instances being the Columbine, Newtown, and the more recent Parkland school shooting. It cannot be controlled who does the killing, but what can be isolated is the weapon those chose as their aid in the slaughtering. So many lives are lost in these devastations a step towards preventing more from being lost is increasing gun control.
Everyone wants a safer community to live in, and keeping guns out of the hands of dangerous people is the number one goal. The policies that have been proposed to accomplish this have been diverse and debated. Two sides have formed on a specific procedure to lower the gun violence: those who want age restrictions on guns to keep them out of the hands of the younger generation
“Every single year, more than 30,000 Americans have their lives cut short by guns, 30,000. Suicides. Domestic violence. Gang shootouts. Accidents.
Gun Violence In America Gun violence in america accounted for 33,636 deaths in 2015 alone and that number is only rising. If every american was able to obtain a firearm imagine what the numbers of gun related deaths. Even gun related injuries caused many more hospital visits in america what many other common incidents. That is why america needs to implement tighter gun laws to reduce the amount of gun violence in America. Without this we will continue to see shooting, gun death, gun injuries resulting in more and more gun related violence.
Gun control is hypocritical because the point of gun control is to limit gun violence basically to save human lives but yet there are many other forms of violence that claim more lives each year than firearms. It neglects the reality of control because everyday criminal acts that have been made illegal are still committed. So even if gun control were in effect it would not prevent the use of those weapons, which would mean there is no real control. Also if gun control was allowed it would be targeting a specific group of people; gun owners, which would be discriminating against them. Most importantly as United States citizens under the second amendment we have the right to bear arms, which is why most importantly gun control should not be allowed.
Gun Control Debate Jake Novak, in an article for CNBC titled, “Gun control isn’t the answer. We already know how to stop the violence,” gives his opinion regarding the controversial issue of gun control. Novak argues that gun control is not the answer to rising gun violence but that proper enforcement of the law would go a long way in reducing the cases of gun violence in America. He states, “We actually solved the issue of rising gun violence in America in the mid-1990’s and again in the early 2000’s by doing something radical. We enforced the law” (Novak 28).
Gun control is necessary, and delay means more death and horror”. We as a nation need to think about the dangers that guns convey in this society. We need to think about the safety of our children, and not in the economic gains. I know this is a nation whose one of main incomes comes from the selling of arms, however, is money more important than a human life? Guns should not have the destiny of life in his trigger, no.
"We don't ban cars, but we work hard to regulate them - and limit access to them – so as to reduce the death toll they cause. This has been spectacularly successful, reducing the death rate per 100 million miles driven by 95 percent since 1921" (Kristoff). Regulations that could be added before accessing guns to help reduce gun violence are banning people under 21 to purchase firearms, background checks, and banning bump stocks. Cars have been regulated greatly since 1921 and the death toll has gone down to 95 percent for every 100 million miles driven, if we regulate guns the way we do with cars the death toll could also go down greatly and we wouldn't have to worry about these shootings happening. Additionally, we can also have tighter gun laws to help reduce gun violence.
Gun control in America has gotten out of control and no one can stop it from growing. Teachers are now starting to say they should carry guns for their safety. Others say that it’s their right to carry their guns around as their second amendment. The number of guns in our country axed the number our police force have, there are approximately 270 million firearms possessed by civilians, and only 897,000 carried by police. It is essential to have a better gun control in America to regulate the gun flow.
Guns are just a tool, like knives and hammers and it completely depends on the people on how they use it. People who support guns and arms say that the Second Amendment secures individual’s right to carry guns with them and that gun rights is needed for self-protection, and was intended for military to have peace and defend the country if needed (Spitzer, 70). Most of the Americans use guns as a source to protect themselves and they believe that gun ownership prevents crime. A study conducted on November 26, 2013 showed that bans on weapons did not significantly affect murder rates at the state level (Lane, 5). Moreover, even if the rules and regulations are executed on gun control, not all criminals obey the law.
Everyday in the United States, ninety families are changed forever; guns claim an average of ninety lives every day in the United States, 33,000 lives in a single year. Gun control has been a debate in the United States for many years and is constantly thrusted back into the public’s attention by horrific shootings. These shootings constantly cause individuals to petition the government to place stricter and stricter regulations of guns. However, these policies cannot be the solution to this problem. To determine a solution that will be both effective and constitutional, we must look at statistics and research that has been conducted to determine the best course of action.
The number of incidents of gun violence last year in the United States was about 60,000. In recent years, the number of mass shooting has risen to about one mass shooting per day in the United States. The country is divided with some wanting to reevaluate our gun control laws and either ban or add additional regulations to the purchase of guns. Others say it is our right for Americans to own guns and something the founding fathers considered important to put in the Bill of Rights. The number of firearm sales has risen with the number of mass shooting many Americans question if banning guns or certain guns could help decrease the number of gun violence deaths.
Gun violence is something that is talked about on a daily basis. It seems every time the news comes on reporters are presenting another instance of some being shot either on purpose or accidentally. Just recently there was a mass shooting in a Florida night club and a young man killing an elderly man on Facebook live. Gun control laws need to be reviewed and pushed more to try and get more guns off of the streets. Murders are being committed all over the world with different types of guns including hand guns, rifles, semiautomatic, machine and shot guns.
