Gun Control "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms. The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government." As Thomas Jefferson stated, this right of citizens is a way of self defense. This has been a right of the people in America for centuries, why should this right be taken away now? Enforcing of this law could increase attacks, restrict good citizens, and take away a means of defense from the people. In 1976, a law was passed that prohibited the residents in Washington D.C. from owning guns. During the time that law was effective, the murder rates in D.C. increased by 73%. However, many lives are being lost because of gun control. The recent, tragic attacks on Paris are a prime example of what can occur when citizens cannot defend themselves properly. Due to strict gun control laws, France has forbidden any of its citizens to own a gun. Even the policemen in France are unable to carry guns. As many can imagine, this makes it difficult to prevent these attacks in Paris from happening. After these incidents, the policemen agreed that they should be allowed to carry guns as a right to protect the citizens. If the France citizens had been allowed to carry guns, the attacks would have had a different result. The amount of innocent lives could have been reduced, and perhaps the person behind the attacks could have been dealt with. Still, after all these attacks, politicians in France have yet to lift their gun control laws (http://www.thenewamerican.com). Gun control takes away the rights of citizens that have been established for many years, increases possibility of harm, and essentially weakens the nation. If these rights are taken away, will the government continue to limit our rights? Guns don 't harm people; people harm people. Guns are a vital means of self defense that would seriously harm the entire country if they were taken away. The Second Amendment gives us the right to bear arms. "A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be
On December 15, 1791, a well-regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms. The bill was approved by three-fourths of the United States. The 2nd Amendment was created, to provide citizens of the U.S. a form of private protection. However due to the increase of technology along with the rise of violence in modern time, many are beginning to question if we should remove the Amendment, and only grant members within militia organizations access to this Amendments right to bear weapons.
The second amendment states that “A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a Free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” (1 GOVT 6., Sidlow/Henschen). Often because of the social and political demands for gun control, the second amendment seems to consistently conjure claims of personal violation of rights, whether in agreement or disagreement of gun
Does the second amendment prevent effective gun regulation? what is the right to bear arms?. The right to bear arms is to have weapons that are useful for protection when someone is trying to break into the peoples house or running up to the person and attacking him. The right to bear arms is the right to have protection, the second amendment has been a critical battle ground for the U.S because people say take the gun from people but the guns that they are takin is people that just stay at home they need to worry about drug dealers and gang members instead of civilians just resting at home so the battle ground for the U.S is they are taking the wrong peoples guns and doing that just cause more threat to the civilians who had guns for protection and those people are now trying to figure out how are they gonna defend themselves? how ar they gonna protect themselves if someone did break into their home?.
This is a second and deeper reason that the defense of the 2nd Amendment is essential to the defense of liberty. Advocates of banning guns think we can substitute material things for human self-control, but this approach will not wash. It is the human moral that will save us from violence, not the presence or absence of
The Second Amendment, "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." –James Madison, The Second Amendment. The founders of our country as well as our constitution believed that without weapons in the form of firearms, there is no freedom from the harsh rulings of a corrupt government. These founders had just been freed from the duty of war from a corrupt and harsh government, without their weapons or the weapons of the people; this country would not be where it is today.
The right to bear arms has been a controversial issue ever since James Madison established it as the second amendment of the constitution. The second amendment states, “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed” (US Const. amend. II). Those in favor of the second amendment, believe that arms are used for protection, dangerous situations, and sports.
Gun Control: an Argument Dating Back to Before 1776 The debate of gun control dates back 100s of years, and many people want to ban guns so that no one can have them. That statement is complete ignorance to what really goes on. The debate has many different viewpoints with some being as radical as banning guns to create a false sense of Utopia. The recent rise of school shootings has set off a spark of gun control debates that make little sense.
Gun control has been a controversial issue for many years. Many citizens believe that if gun control is strictly enforced it would reduce the threat of crime. People have the right to bear arms for protection, or even just the pleasure of hunting and recreational activity. With the recent events involving firearms and mass shootings, people are skeptical whether to increase or decrease gun laws. Americans have a constitutional right to own handguns and stricter laws and licensing will not effectively save lives.
Gun Control On December 15th, 1791 our Second Amendment right was adopted. As stated in our Bill of Rights, "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. " The right to bear arms is a right that every American deserves to have to protect themselves and to serve their families. However there are many that believe that because of mindless acts of violence that guns are to blame.
For advocates of the second amendment, the right to bear arms applies to all Americans for self-protection against dangerous criminals. Criminals will always have access to weapons, therefore citizens need self-protection using firearms. John Lott, in “More Guns, Less Crime,” explains that crime fell by 10 percent in Texas in the year after a law had passed letting citizens carry weapons ( Martin 10). This evidence shows that if more citizens were armed for example, the citizens in Texas, less crime would occur in America. Although those in favor of the second amendment believe that arms are used in self-protection, they also believe it is an individual right and oppose strict gun control laws as
The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government.” In this statement that Jefferson had made, it is important to be able to protect yourself from whatever may come your way. People should be able to rely on a
The Second Amendment to the Constitution, which concerns the right to bear arms, is always a hot-button issue, especially during election season. Gun rights and gun control groups alike have been lobbying Congress for decades to craft legislation in their respective favors. While many citizens think gun be banned, there is a huge among of people who still disagree. Whether gun should be prohibited or not it is still mystery to American. Proponents of more gun control laws state that the Second Amendment intended for militias; that gun violence would be reduced; that gun restrictions have always existed; and that a majority of Americans, including gun owners, support new gun restrictions.
The Second Amendment says, “A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a Free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” Gun rights has become the subject of intense political, social, and cultural battles for much of the last century. The pro-gun right side has asserted that the right to arms was absolute, and that any gun control laws infringed that right (Kopel, 2013). This right has been supported by the Supreme Court who has reinforced what has become the American consensus that the Second Amendment allows the right to keep and bear arms, especially for self-defense, and that it is a fundamental individual
Strict regulations and limitations have been pursued already and clearly do not suffice. Statics brought to attention by gun control opponents, show that gun control laws have done little to reduce crime rates. Several restrictions have been made on certain guns, considered as overly dangerous, though in the hands of an unstable criminal even a legal hunting gun can be deadly. Countless restrictions have been made, however people have still found ways around them. If people are unstable and determined enough, they will find a gun, regardless of the restrictions or regulations.
Gun control also limits our constitutionally derived right to own firearms. If gun control is enforced, law-abiding citizens will be forced to give up their guns and their right to own guns, while many criminals who own guns may illegally keep theirs. As the saying goes “If guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns.” Guns are an important aspect of our society in many ways. They allow for protection, recreation, and hunting.
