Greensboro North Carolina Sit Ins, 1960
The four juvenile back men who staoed the first sit-in in Greensboro were Ezell Blair Jr., David Richmond, Franklin McCain and Joseph
McNeil, they were all students from the same collage, North Carolina
Agricultural and Technical College. They were swayed by the peaceful protest methods used by Mohandas Gandhi.
As well as an early "Freedom Ride" planned by the Congress for
Racial Equality (CORE) in 1947, in which interracial protesters rode across the upper South in a bus to trial a recent Supreme Court decision banning segregation in interstate bus travel.
The "Greensboro Four"-as they became known-had also been driven to action by the brutal slauahter in 1955 of a young African American
