Greek life on a college campus is a major part of student life. Greek life makes students feel like they have a foundation to stand on when it is time to network with the professional world. Yet, students do not understand that Greek life has its toxic con on student’s professional career, which choose to go down that path. The Greek life’s hazing, alcohol, cost, black culture, and Alcorn’s part could or already be toxic to someone 's professional career.

In, “Bloomberg: Ban Fraternities”, author Editors of Bloomberg.com, explains the alcohol side of Greek life: “Alcohol abuse also plays a central role in one of the most corrosive aspects of fraternities: hazing of new members in initiation rituals that are often brutal and vile” (208). In the article “Death at a Penn State Fraternity” by Caitlin Flanagan, the tragic story of Beta Theta Pi pledge Timothy Piazza’s last moments are recounted in great detail. Throughout the analysis of the situation, Flanagan subjects her audience to a substantial amount of heartbreaking details, as well as her opinion and speculation. Flanagan’s purpose in her writing of this article is to display the message that fraternity hazing is apart of a much greater problem in the fraternal system. She does this in a number of ways, including her interviews with other frat brothers such as Kordel Davis, and her stringent analyzation of Greek Life as a whole. The purpose of this paper is to review and analyze student cultures in the book Pledged: The Secret Life of Sororities, by Alexandra Robbins. The book provides a glimpse of the historically white national sorority system and investigates their secret group behavior. In the United States and Canada, approximately 800 institutions host social Greek Life on their campuses (Long, 2012). These chapters within the Greek Life system promote the ideals of scholarship, leadership, service, and friendship. However, in the Robbins’ book and narrative of a sorority illustrates sorority life and negative realities of that system, such as rush, bid, racism, pledging, initiation, Greek Week, breaks-up and sexual assaults.

Society has left an invisible impact on how we perceive the college lifestyle as a whole. This ranges from the belief that all students are sleep deprived from staying up too late to finish their homework. Also the sociological acceptance that college is the place to party and drink every single weekend. Theirs a sociological point of view and how society has played a key part in underage drinking being accepted in college towns. Not just limited to the effects of alcohol on a student’s wellbeing; also, the short term and long term conditions that can arise from binge drinking.
Some might say that the use of alcohol is common place and nothing more than a stepping stone in the ritual of being a college student. The problem is the consequences of binge drinking and excessive drinking should not be accepted as “ritual” or common place. Some consequences are extremely problematic and not only impact the individual but have lasting consequences for the college environment in a global sense.
A soror is entitled to attend the three Rites of passage of any chapter, granted that she is properly attired. Sorors under disciplinary action are not entitled to attend induction and Initiation. The secrets, passwords, signs and grips are never written but are transmitted by word of mouth from one Delta to another. All sorority insignia should be worn properly, respectfully, and in good taste. Membership in Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is a lifetime commitment.
Every year individuals from all across the United States makes the decision on whether or not they will try out for an interscholastic athletic team. These individuals hope to be part of something special, whether it’s achieving individual goals or team goals. They also understand they will need to sacrifice time, energy, and their social life in order to achieve these goals. When tryouts begin these individuals hope their skills and abilities will get them recognized by not only the coaches, but the returning players as well. A problem arises though once try outs are over and the team is announced.

Collegiate faculty, and, in particular, college counselors, have reported higher rates of psychiatric disorders in campus resident 's year after year. Though Gray concedes that this problem is multifaceted, he places the majority of blame two parties: academia and parenting, proposing that their tendency to fold under the slightest of pressure compounded with an ever-present overbearing streak is rotting higher education from the inside-out.
Meeting new people and volunteering around one’s community, sets up connections that will benefit one in the future. Individuals that are against Greek life clearly do not take into the fact that Greek members meet new people all the time. Whether it’s meeting someone through somewhere one is volunteering, or just meeting one of their brothers or sisters from another school, one is always meeting someone new. Greek life provides students with a network of peers who will know them by their names. The students that are not a part of Greek life have a disadvantage.
College, and college life is something you think that never ends but something that comes to an by a snap. As we come into college, we join in multiple activities and organizations to get involved. One of the highly-participated or known to be organizations on campuses are Greek life. For some students, Greek life is something new, but for others it was known as they become seniors, or from their sibling and cousins. A myth or fact of brotherhood and sisterhood?!
