In the book Why Geography Matters: Three Challenges Facing America; By Harm de Blij I learned many things and my perspective about the world and what's going on it has changed after reading this book. After reading this I wished that I had payed more attention to what was going on in the world and now, I will work hard to keep being aware of the world so I am no longer ignorant of it. Harm De Blij points out many things and makes clearer for me. In Why Geography Matters, Harm de Blij exhibits how geography's viewpoints yield one of a kind bits of knowledge into the inter connections that stamp out onto our ever changing world. The book talks about three major problems.

It went from looking at the physical aspects of the world such as the environment, landscapes, topography and climate to also including the human, cultural, and political aspects of an environment. It changed the understanding of how humans inhabit and shape the spaces around them. Not just how our lives are shaped by the environments we live in but the whole story of how they affect us and in turn how we affect them. This opened geography to become a much broader field of study allowing for race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, nationality, and intersectionality to become focal points in research (Jacobs and Spillman, 2005). ___ the growing awareness of how much our culture shapes geographic phenomena (Blunt, 2007).

In the aftermath, thousands of black protesters gathered at the scene of the bombing. When the police went to break up the protests, violence broke out across the city. If this event or attack has never happened during a publically advertised event, then it’s sometimes hard to know how much and to what extent should local and federal law enforcement should take action in order to ensure everyone’s safety. Although that is why a risk assessment should be done so that they can prepare for these types of things and therefore are prepared for any but all possibilities of dealing with a terroristic attack such as a bombing in a very well know city such as

People now have to Question if they are safe where ever they may go. Also makes people wonder if the government is doing enough to stop the terrorist in America. The Bombing took away a piece of mind for all Americans and people question their safety on America soil. The fact is there can be terrorists were ever anybody goes even in America. Although America is fighting against terrorism we have not done enough to stop these acts from happing yet.

An additional prime example of individualism is seen when Mufasa gives Simba a speech of how he needs to find himself. Mufasa is trying to get through to Simba that he needs to be himself no matter what and not to conform to someone else’s expectation of who he should be This displays individualism because of how it’s relaying the idea that people should be who they want to be, not what others expect them to be. Individualism can clearly be seen in the movie due to these

America has had a tumultuous existence, replete with war, progress, and ideologies. The most formidable of these is individualism, or the shift of society’s focus from the group to the individual and a growing emphasis on their personal needs and desires. Despite wide criticism, it has become the societal norm, spanning all generations, genders, races, and walks of life. Individualism, while indeed centered on the individual, is more accurately described as the changing and shifting relationship between the individual and society.

Finally, terrorism is a constant threat which has many people mortified. Fear dictated all of these events and worsened the situations dramatically.

Harm de Blij’s Why Geography Matters: More Than Ever explains the necessity of geographic knowledge in today’s society and the need to further expand interactions within the United States and other countries. This novel expands on the economic, cultural, physical, and political geography of our nation. De Blij outlines on the importance of geographic thought by focusing on climate change, terrorism, the rise of states, and development in Africa.. I believe that while geography has proven to make a noticeable difference in the knowledge of our vast world, it will require an extensive amount of effort in order to make geography known.

Individualism is the moral stance, political philosophy, ideology, or social outlook that emphasizes the moral worth of an individual. This is something in Anthem that people in the society do not have. Examples of this is they did not have their own unique names.

In Prisoners of Geography, Tim Marshall argues that geography constrains and shapes all nations and their leaders. Their actions are limited by mountains, rivers, seas, and concrete. He argues that to really understand world events, one must also consider geography. Physical characteristics affect the strengths and vulnerabilities of regions. In his book, Tim Marshall examines Russia, China, the Middle East, Latin America, the United States, Africa, Western Europe, Japan and Korea, and Greenland and the Arctic.
