“Romeo and Juliet” is a famous love tragedy written by William Shakespeare. In Verona, Italy, two star-crossed lovers seek happiness and love in a world of darkness. At thirteen years old, Juliet was destined to marry Paris. However, when she met Romeo, they both instantly fell in love. Their families despised each other, and had a feud between them for a long time. The feud made their love impossible. Only hours of meeting each other, Romeo and Juliet were married by Friar Laurence, a holy man, while Juliet was still engaged to Paris. Who would’ve known that this special moment would be the cause of many deaths, including their own. The person responsible for the death of Romeo and Juliet, is Friar Laurence. The reason why I say this is because he married them without informing their parents, he gave Juliet the potion, and he left Juliet alone with the tombs. Friar Laurence should also be punished because he created the beginning of a love tragedy. To begin with, the Friar married Romeo and Juliet without thinking about the consequences of his actions. Instead of helping Juliet, he just left her there at her own fate, “I hear some noise, lady come out of the tomb...the watch is coming...I dare no longer stay.” (5.3.63-71).When he abandoned her, Juliet committed suicide with a dagger. Her death would have been prevented if he stayed there and supervised her to make sure she was ok. However, he ignored the fact that she was there and left because he was scared.
