Foreshadowing In A Relay Race To Remember

255 Words2 Pages

The author of “A Relay Race to Remember” uses foreshadowing to create tension in a few different parts of the story. There is a sentence in the second paragraph that says, “The outcome of the entire meet depended on the final event of the day, the men’s relay race”. That sentence along helps with the foreshadowing and gives off a lot of tension. It’s saying how important these events are to the race and how their team has to win them yet just before that sentence the narrator is saying how Malik, one of their teams best swimmers, is hurt. Once the reader sees this, automatically they will begin to feel worried or nervous for Malik’s swim team because if one of the major people who is meant to swim is hurt, how will they be able to win?
