Horse and buggy's were very common back then for transporting goods, and going to work, or just in to town. Horses play a big role in history with how we have adapted to them. "Age hunters a long time ago would kill a dozen horses at a time. ("Horse"). Back then people living in the Ice Age Era had a hard time finding food, so they would use horses as a source of meat and would kill a lot at a time. Most people would call this cruelty, but back then horses were the only source of meat. "Humans finally realized horses could be good for work if they were domesticated". ("Horses"). Eventually people stopped killing the beautiful creatures, and started training them to ride and help farm lands to produce more, and also to transport goods. "There was a cliff in the Ice Age Era where no horse remains were found." ("Horse"). The European hunters would actually corner the horses on a certain cliff, and since the horses had no where else to go, they would fall straight to their death. When riding horses, people might forget what time it is and be out too late, that is why we have clocks and watches as a way to tell
Not only were horses unable to survive in colder climate conditions, but they started to destroy timber resources, crops, and farmland of stationary tribes. Because the villages were stationary, they acquired more horses through raiding. This resulted in even greater demolition of the environment. The Mandans, Arikaras, and Hidatsas decided to continue their agricultural lifestyle and suppress nomadism. These neutral tribes didn’t own many horses.
The most common item to raid for was captives. Due to a major epidemic in 1492 which lead to a devastating loss in the Comanche population they begun to raid for captives more and more. According to Rivaya-Martinez, the captives spiked in the Comanche population in 1840. This was a response to a major population loss due to battles being fought and Comanches being killed. As the horse was introduced and they began using them for larger, faster, and more efficient raids, they needed more captives.

In North America, wild horses are often labeled as non-native, or exotic species by most federal or state agencies, such as the National Park Service, etc. Despite this, horses were originally indigenous to North America millions of years ago, however, some found their way to what is now Europe and Asia before they died out and became extinct around 2 million years ago. It wasn’t until 1493 when the Horse was finally re introduced. On Columbus’ second voyage to the Americas, Spanish horses were brought back to North America, first in the Virgin Islands, then in 1519, they were reintroduced to North America, in modern‐day Mexico. From there they then radiated throughout the American Great Plains.

A complete shift to this nomadism would have resulted to a need for many horses among each individual family, around six. One would be used for hunting, two for specifically riding, and three for carrying the lodge poles, tipi covers, and other necessities among the tribe. This was difficult for many families to obtain this many horses due to living in poorer conditions but also to a limited number of horses available.2 Even with a limited number of horses, however, the aid that these animals provided for each tribe allowed them to continue striving and develop their ways of living in order to create a more sufficient and advanced way of
