Figurative language is the glue to all poetry writing. It is what holds poetry together and without it, poetry would be plain and boring. Figurative language adds depth and creates a whole new dimension full of possibilities that readers can enjoy. It is the most powerful tool that an author can use because it can be used in a way no other piece of literature can. It makes poems unique and the utilization of figurative language amplifies the meaning of the main message of the author. It can turn ordinary phrases into a new, deepened and more meaningful message. It makes the author 's writing better and gives the reader and new look on the main message. It enhances the poem and evokes the reader which overall, makes the poem enjoyable. It allows the author to convey the desired message through metaphorical and symbolic imagery rather than just words and language.

Many things come with 2 sides; good and bad. In the poem, it talks of the bad side where readers of poems want to “torture a confession” out of a poem rather than just enjoying a poem for what it is. The author wants readers to analyze poems positively rather than negatively like they are accustomed to do. This relates to my life in that everyone focuses on the bad things I do rather than looking at the good things I do in life. This poem also reminds me of how the education system works. A student is rarely rewarded when getting a high mark but will always serve consequences whether it is guidance meeting or call home to parents when they get a low mark. This connects with the poem because all people want to do is point out the bad things and bash on them rather than support the good
In the poem “Tuesday 9:00 AM” Denver Butson writes about how people can not say what is on their mind. He can convey this through the use of figurative language. The figurative language in the poem is used to express the inner conflicts of each character and the addition of details, construct the theme.
In the short story “The Most Dangerous Game,” the author, Richard Connell uses the wonders of figurative language to spice things up in many ways throughout the story. Almost every page had something lying within itself, hidden behind metaphors similes, personification, and the list goes on. Some examples of how Richard Connell uses figurative language were clearly displayed on page 62: “Didn’t you notice that the crew’s nerves were a bit jumpy today?” This page also began to reveal the main feeling/emotion of the story(eerie/suspicious) came to be-which was set off by the example I used above. In this scene, the author uses very descriptive words and/or adjectives in his choice(s) of figurative language when he writes, “There was no breeze.
Not once throughout the poem does he put in a positive word for the poet. In order to look at the figurative meaning of the poem we should look at the literal meaning of the text. For instance, “Cannot recognize visual absurdities” (Wayman, line 10). This quite literally means that the poet has trouble recognizing or simply cannot recognize anything that is absurd visually.
Similes in the poem such as ‘till he was like to drop’ are used to create a more descriptive image in the reader’s mind. Metaphors when saying ‘He lifted up his hairy paw’ and in many other sections of the poem to exaggerate areas to give the reader a more interesting view. So the poet can express what he is trying to prove through and entertaining way. The imagery device enhances the poem to make it stand out more so it grabs the reader attention. The poem was a very entertaining and humorous.
Here, it shows how students are “grade grubbers” (para. 4), which ruins the whole purpose of the enjoyment of learning. The effect that this has is that it shows how students lost the true meaning of learning. In order to understand why this is happening, grades themselves need to be delved into. Students throughout their lives are indoctrinated with the concept that grades are what matter the most which is the underlying factor. Correspondingly, Jones’s poem reveals the meaning that the workers can accomplish wonders by themselves if they have the passion to peruse it.
Figurative language is using words or phrases differently than the literal definition and is used in literature to provide more drama to the story or to just make the text more interesting. Homer uses many types of figurative language in the text; including similes, metaphors, epithets, personifications, alliterations, and epic similes. In Homer’s poem The Odyssey, figurative language is used to intensify

The poem has actually expressed the casual behavior of society towards abuse victims. People only use words as an expression but do not come for actual help. Nobody claims to be there for the victim instead they keep on carrying meaningless conversations which are not aimed in actually bettering off the conditions of the abuse victims. The word ‘Poem’ expresses the same notion of just using words but offering no help for the injured bodies.

Poetry is a very unique type of writing. Poetry allows people to express their emotions in a way they feel comfortable. Every poem has a meaning to it, whether it is talking about food, interest, or a moment in their lives. Readers often mistake the poet as the narrator, although in many cases this is true. Many poets are the narrators and the poems are about their personal life.
This shows that the unknown citizen was average. Never getting fired isn’t an accomplishment that should be memorialized, but the government wants other citizens to be as average as the unknowncitizen. This eliminates individuality because the other citizens will follow after this example and soon they will all be average. The citizens can’t be unique if they are all indirectly told to become average. Lastly, the poem shows that the society is weakened.
One example of figurative language in Laurie Hale Anderson’s book “Speak” is when Melinda decides to rid her garden of all weeds, and does some spring cleaning after it finally stops raining during May. Around the same time, Melinda is realizing that she wants to make some new changes in her life and in this figurative language example, Melinda’s life is her garden. She decides first to rake the leaves “suffocating the bushes” ; Melinda is ridding the demons from herself on the first layer of her skin. She says that she has to “fight the bushes (her problems)” and the bushes don’t like getting cleaned out but it is something one has to do if one makes
Poetry is an important part of literature which conveys an author 's ideas across to the reader through the use of descriptive language. Poetry helps an author to express their inner emotions and often incorporates various poetic devices which enriches the text. Poetry gives the reader a different perspective and when read closely, can give the audience a look into the authors imagination. Likewise, poetic devices enhance the writing and can drastically change the mood of the poem, as well as, how the reader interprets the poem. Poetic devices are important in literature because they help to convey a message, add spontaneity to a poem, and give the reader a strong visual.
In a poem it is very good to use different types of figurative language in the poem. In “Identity”Polanco uses the literary devices of simile, alliteration, and repetition. The poem that Polanco wote is about being unique and yourself is a good thing.
Then when the author changes the tone at the end of the poem in the last stanza to hopeful tone the reader can feel the hope and happiness that a person feels when they are down and they are given kindness.
