Topic Sentence: Despite the fact that Carnival is essentially the same throughout the country and has undergone the same changes everywhere in the country, Fasching shows some differences based on regions.

Southwestern Germany
It still carries its meaning during pagan times.
Hexenzufnt, an association in Offenburg, plans and joins Fasching, parades, and even wears costumes (Mcmahon 384).
“Strangers” in costumes are introduced to the town
“Alti” elder women of the town= no mask, married and wear the 18th century costumes (Mcmahon 384).
“Büttel” messengers= unmarried men, ring bells to warn the town from the evil eye of Hexe group (Mcmahon 384).
“Spattelhasnel” young women of the town, unmarried, wear attractive and elegant costumes to attract the Büttels to get married (Mcmahon 384). Hexenmeister -meister means master- is the master who looks like devil arrives and scare the town (Mcmahon 384).
Hexe chases away foreign people in the town especially tourists because it is a local carnival (Mcmahon 384).
