Your ideal parenting method is unacceptable as it damages self-esteem, confidence, and creativity. It truly scares me to think that the content of your article may persuade amateur parents to mimic you and your “tactics”, which would be an absolutely tragic plummet in parenting standards, sending us back to the 1900s. I understand that you believe that the best way to raise a child is through an intense regimen consisting of limited leisure and long hours of study. However, you must recognize that there is much more to childhood than this.

During the beginning of modern Europe, there were conflicting views on the proper way to view children. Previously in history, the infant mortality rate was very high, so kids were treated more like adults and were often neglected because odds were they would die. There was a resounding view that kids should be treated harshly in order to become strong. Then in the seventeenth century, the idea of being tender and gentle to your kids was introduced. The way in children were brought up was influenced by assumptions made on both old and new schools of thought.

I am going to focus on a child I support in an MLD school. *Jack is a Primary 2 student who has attended our school since nursery. In the article “Kid Kustomers” author Eric Schlosser writes about how in today’s society many companies are targeting children to buy their products. These companies target children to buy a wide range of products not just products intended for children, for example, even automobile and oil companies have specific ads that target the youth. These ads are not only meant for consumption in the present, they are also meant for future consumption of their products. Also, throughout this article, the author includes the seven ways kids nag to their parents to get them to buy whatever they want is also included. In our society, if children throw tantrums or don’t stop their continuous begging and nagging they will get what they want.

To begin with, the taste alone of school lunches is beyond unsatisfactory. The meals provided by public schools are not appetizing. There exists a tangible disconnect between the enticing, nutritious meals advertised on the school board’s menus and what the students actually receive—pathetic portions and lukewarm meals slapped onto a tray.
