Can you judge a book by its cover ? Stereotype is a belief or idea of what a particular type of person or things like. Stereotype are often unfair or untrue. Any time you grouping races or individuals together and make a judgment about them without knowing them, this is an example of stereotypes. Racial remarks, sexual remarks, and gender remarks are biggest stereotypes. I hear that all black outside of the United State are poor. I don’t think that all black people are poor. May be some of them are so poor that they don’t have enough food to eat and they are died by starvation. Some of them are from middle class. They have enough food and live happily but they can’t afford expensive things. And some of them are so rich that they can buy anything that they want, they can eat anything they want. And it is depended on area or country where they live and what is the situation of that area and country if it is developed or undeveloped. And it is also depended on person if he wants to work or not. If he works then he can be rich and if he doesn’t then he can’t be rich. So we …show more content…
We can see that Iraq is attacked by ISIS and they are all muslims. In the attack of 9/11 the terrorist are muslims so people think that all muslims are terrorist. But that’s not true. All muslims are not terrorist. There are so many muslims living in the United State and in many other countries and they are not criminals or terrorist, they are not harmful but actually they are helpful peace loving, they work hard, they are honest. Just like other religion muslim is also a simple and peace loving religion. All religions have their own religion book like Bible, Quran, Gita etc and they all teach us good moral values. There are actually several non religious groups that have been bombing targets of their choices, based on political convictions. Just because of some muslims we can’t blame on whole Islamic
Overcoming Stereotypes Twyla once said at the coffee shop, “ A black girl and a white girl meeting in a Howard Johnson’s on the road and having nothing to say. Now we are behaving like sisters separated for much too long.” Twyla wants things to be the same as they were at St. Bonny’s between her and Roberta, but realized that maybe too much time has passed and society has gotten in the way of them staying friends. As the story progresses, the two girls interact in a racially divided America that wants them to be enemies, but the girls hearts prevail and they overcome the stereotypes and stay friends. In Toni Morrison’s essay Recitatif
As a result of this fear, Muslims received negative portrayals in the media and a great deal of discrimination. “While some deliberately frame Islamic coverage positively in an attempt to counter Islamophobia, many of the portrayals of Muslims contributed to the formation of harmful Islamic media stereotypes,” (Media). The most used stereotype is that Muslims are radical insurgents, but there are also many others, including that Muslim women are either victims of male power, or that they are feminists revolting from a disadvantaged position. Many Muslims also face discrimination from those directly around them. Small businesses have collaborated to create “Muslim-free zones.”
After 9/11, many people though the whole Muslim community was responsible because they did not know the difference between the terrorist groups and the peaceful groups. The Muslim religion revolves around peace, but the extremists believe that Allah is telling them to terrorize people and things. People would be rude to RJ, saying that just because he was Muslim he would basically go no where. “I grew up hearing that Muslims are terrorists. I didn’t see Muslims like me on TV or in the movies: the Muslims on the screen were evil” (Khalaf 10).
He mentions attacks that have happened in the past and how the Islam does not have anything to do with them. Jabbar mentions in his article that the attacks happening are more about money and not about changing the societies behavior. According to Kareem the attacks are more about business than religion. He also adds that when someone in the society hears the word Muslim, they get terrified
Islam is a religion of hate and oppression. The Muslims have conquered and assimilated countries in the past just like how they are doing it now. Islamic people are immigrating to America to radicalize Americans and create terrorist cells. There are many Muslims that come to America for a better life, yet even if a small percentage of those coming to America are radical, the consequences are far-reaching. A small group of these immigrants, can enter highly populated areas and kill many people like they did in the Boston Marathon Bombing terrorist attack.
ISIS is a dangerous group attacks nations and are formidable or bring fear to others. “(CNN) - The United Nations described a joint suicide bombing that killed 80 people in Afghanistan as a "war crime," saying those responsible for the attack on a peaceful demonstration will be held accountable. ISIS claimed responsibility for the bombing in the capital Saturday.” (Visser and Popalzai).
Stereotype: a widely held but fixed and oversimplified image or idea of a particular type of person or thing. The short story Cathedral by Raymon Carver is an excellent representation of how conventional images we may hear about in everyday life are not always ideal. Cathedral is narrated by a man who has very black and white views of life. Most of his opinions of people and the world come from things he sees on TV or what he may have grown up with. The story starts off with his wife telling him that a blind older man who she used to be a caretaker for would be staying with them for a few days since his wife had recently passed.
Muslim come in all different ethnicities and different backgrounds but what we all share in common is the holy book (Quran) and follow its rule. Most of the people that give their opinion about Islam and blaming Muslim for terrorism didn’t read the Quran. Because if they did, they would know what a real Muslim is capable of. As a Muslim, Islam doesn’t teach support terrorism. It is mention in the Quran that killing one soul is like killing all mankind and saving one soul is like saving all mankind.
Playing the Part No matter the century or the centuries to come there has and there always will be stereotypes. A stereotype is a fixed notion or image of a certain group of people. Stereotypes put certain characteristics on people or objects. Most stereotypes are racist and sexist; over time stereotypes may change to fit with the evolving society.
A stereotype is a fixed set of beliefs upon of a certain group of individuals who share common traits. Stereotypes can be classified into a wide range of categories such as: race, culture, ethnicity, gender, social or economic status, and religion. A stereotype has to do with a group of people rather than an individual. Most stereotypes are biased and untrue. Stereotypes often lead to prejudice, meaning that one acts a certain way due to the fixed beliefs they have toward a certain group of individuals.
A stereotype is an idea of someone because of their culture or gender. In the novel To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee, shows multiple examples of stereotypes going on in their society. Either the children or the adults have a stereotype to say about one another at a point in time. The novel is shown in the perspective of Scout Finch at the time she was young because the author wants to show the reader that each and every person, doesn’t matter what age, will get stereotyped. Stereotypes have been around for a great amount of time.
Stereotypes are simple images or beliefs over the attributes assigned to a particular social group, are models of behavior that become schemes deeply rooted in our mentalities to the point that we adopt them as part of human naturalness. Stereotypes can be racial, religious, sexual and social. These could be the caused of a known incident or attitude years earlier, or simply the result of frequent rumors. Stereotypes can affect different spheres of society. These assumptions can filter into many aspects of life.
No one can say if someone else is right or wrong, it is a matter of personal opinion and no society can pass judgement on another society. The current movement to understand the radical Islam is a sign that relativism is growing. The cultural relativists believe Westerners should not impose their ideas on Islamic world, including the idea that the Terrorist bombing of civilians is evil. Islamic belief in the necessity of jihad is just as valid as any belief in the western civilian, the relativists assert, and they believe that the terrorist attack is not only their fault (Mamdani,
People get categorized by stereotypes everyday just by outward appearances or the group of people they are associated with. A stereotype is a preconceived notion about a group of people. People form fixed images of a group that are assumed that all group members act and behave is a particular way. A person essentially gets stereotyped by being “guilty by association” of a particular group. All stereotypes get based off of a bit of truths that all group members similarly have.
One example linking Islam to terror and violence would be the Oklahoma City Bombing that took place on an American government building, April 19 1995, which killed, many innocent people including children. This is then, followed by how stereotypical and how fast assumptions are made towards the Muslim community as discussed by Patel (1999) stating that a British newspaper front cover of, Today, emerged the following day with a picture of a fireman carrying a dead baby with the headline, “In the name of Islam.” Later it was then established that Christian militants had in fact carried out the bombing. From this issue, it clearly shows a trend on how Islam is misrepresented and assumed as being evil, just by a short headline and a picture of a fireman carrying a dead baby. It is a form of language, a sign or message in which they are trying to imply to the masses that Islam is killing innocent people in the name of God
