have you ever thought that people should be treated differently because of their race or religion? In the novel " To Kill a Mockingbird " showed Jem, Scout and Atticus Finch tries to help a black man named Tom Robison, who was accused of raping a very poor white girl named Mayella Ewell. While doing this, they learn the moral nature of human beings- that is, whether people are essentially good or essentially evil. In the process, Harper Lee wanted to show these themes: courage, prejudice, justice. In the novel To Kill a Mockingbird Harper Lee showed courage in the character Atticus Finch, a lawyer. Atticus Finch, a white male, went to court to defend Tom Robison without hesitating, even though he knew he was going to lose. He didn't care if people would judge him. Another character who showed courage was Jem Finch , the older brother of Scout. In the beginning of the novel, Jem's idea of bravery is simply touching the side of Radley house, a neighbor with bad reputation. Only because "in all his life, Jem had never declined a dare." As the story progress Jem learns about bravery from Atticus facing a mad dog and shooting it in one shot. As these show courage, it also shows prejudice. …show more content…

One main person who people prejudice over is a man named Boo Radley (Arthur), but of course that is what people call him since he never leaves the house. There was a rumor that Boo got in trouble with the law and his father imprisoned him in the house as a punishment. "He was not heard from until fifteen years later, when he stabbed his father with a pair of scissors." People would spread rumors like these. Another person who was Prejudiced over was Tom Robison. He was automatically accused of raping Mayella Ewell because he was black. The novel had many people who judged other people because of their race or either it was what hey believed
