Who Killed Jay Gatsby? Sounds like a simple enough question, who was holding the gun? However, it is not that simple. The story leading up to and after the death of Gatsby muddles the answer, making it extremely complicated. While Wilson may be legally responsible, others are morally responsible. In the Novel, The Great Gatsby, Tom, Myrtle, and Nick are morally responsible for Gatsby's death. All three characters are perfect examples of a man's life and death, and how there is more to a story than what might reach the surface. Some more than others, but all are responsible nonetheless. Tom Buchanan is one of, if not the most, responsible for Gatsby’s death. Not only does he cheat on Daisy with Wilson's wife, but he also leads Wilson to Gatsby. He does all of this because he feels as if his control over life is slipping, “Tom was feeling hot whips of panic. His wife and his mistress… were …show more content…
Myrtle was actively cheating on Wilson, and she must have known how immoral it was to do so. Not only was she cheating on hi8m, but she didn't want to be with him anymore. Myrtle handled the situation so horribly, it drove Wilson to insanity. He locked her up, threatening to take her away, “she's going whether she wants to or not, I’m going to get her away.” (123). Myrtle wasn’t Loyal or willing to handle the situation like an adult. In Wilson's eyes, he had to get her away. One of the main events causing Gatsby’s death was Myrtle's death. If she hadn’t been so adamant about running from Wilson as fast as she could, she wouldn't have been hit by Daisy. This singular event put it all in motion, causing Wilson to be blinded by hatred and disdain for whoever was cheating with his wife; that was all he could think of. “Before he could move from his door the business was over” (137) Myrtle was dead, what else did he have to live for other than revenge. Wilson was driven to insanity and Myrtle was one of the leading

Who is at fault for Gatsby's death? In the great gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, Gatsby reunites with his past lover and then dies due to unfortunate reasons. I think who is responsible for his death is Daisy, she is to blame for his death in my opinion. Meeting with Daisy all over again wasn't such a good idea for Gatsby, because it ultimately ended up being his downfall. In Chapter 1” I hope she'll be a fool- that's the best thing a girl can be in this world, a beautiful little fool”(Fitzgerald,1925, p.17).
Who’s more responsible for the death of a man, the one holding the gun, or the one who supplied the gun and bullets? In F. Scott Fitzgerald's book “The Great Gatsby” readers are introduced to themes of love, greed, and betrayal. Readers meet Jay Gatsby, who is a man that is after one goal and one goal only, love. They are also introduced to Daisy Buchanan, the love of Gatsby. Daisy is beautiful but constantly places material possessions and status over what really matters, love.
He placed all of his emotions outward onto Gatsby, because without Myrtle to be there as a receptacle, there was no where else for them to go. With his anger gone to Gatsby and his love gone with Myrtle, Wilson had nothing left to live for and killed himself as well
Myrtle Wilson had been in a torrid affair with Tom Buchanan, each in the relationship because of their tiredness with their own lives, but, also, their inability to confront their own wrongdoings and problems. Myrtle had spent her whole life hoping for someone else to take her from her marriage and give her a new, happier life. Myrtle was struck by a car and killed abruptly one night in the middle of an argument with her husband. The text describing the event of her death was short as well, possibly written that way to emphasize the sharpness of death, and it reads “A moment later she rushed out into the dusk, waving her hands and shouting-before he could move from his food the business was
Wilson was a hardworking man who only wanted to please his wife. All he wanted was a happy marriage with his wife Myrtle. He obeys her orders without a blink of an eye. As seen on page 26, when Myrtle asks Wilson to fetch some chairs so she can plan a night out with Tom, Wilson merely responds with “‘oh sure’...and went toward the office mingling immediately with the cement color of the walls.” To attempt to fix his marriage, that he feels slipping away, he works diligently to raise enough money to move Myrtle west.
18. Myrtle explains that she married Mr. Wilson because she believed that he was a gentleman and was fit for raising a family with her. “ …but he wasn’t fit to lick my shoe” (34). From this quote Myrtle makes it clear that Myrtle now feels that Mr. Wilson is beneath
The most shocking moment in the novel The Great Gatsby was ultimately when George Wilson snuck into Gatsby’s backyard and shot him in the back, sending him falling into his pool. If you were to ask a student who was responsible for the murder of Jay Gatsby, they would respond with the answer “George Wilson”. However, simply putting the word “morally” at the front of that question, you can now be provided with several different answers. Any main character in the novel The Great Gatsby, including Nick, Daisy, Tom, or Gatsby himself can be seen as morally responsible for the death of Jay Gatsby besides George Wilson. How would you feel if the woman you worked hard to be with and were deeply in love with was the one morally responsible for your death?
Myrtle Wilson was killed in a fatal car crash on Monday the 7th of August, when she ran on to the road and was hit by a yellow car, recently identified as Jay Gatsby’s car. After hitting Mrs. Wilson, the car did not stop. Gatsby was returning from New York to his home, but when travelling through the valley of ashes, Myrtle Wilson ran into the road and was then hit by Gatsby’s car.
Jay was blamed for the death, but he was as innocent as a lamb. “Was Daisy driving?”, “Yes, but of course I will say I was” (80). Jay admits to taking the blame for the accident and is not the victim of the accident. Also, Gatsby was not driving his car at the time so it could not have been him. Daisy was in the Rolls Royce and deserves to be the one taking the blame of the death of Myrtle Wilson.
In “The Great Gatsby” by F. Scott Fitzgerald, George Wilson shoots Jay Gatsby as well as himself out of anger due to the loss of his wife. Although Wilson is legally at fault for killing Gatsby, Daisy and Tom are two characters that could both be morally responsible for the death as they fuel the events leading up to it. Daisy acted innocent and was a direct cause leading to the event as she was the one killed Myrtle. Tom let it build up and made assumptions out of spite towards Gatsby, he told Wilson it was Gatsby who was driving. Both played a role in being morally responsible for the actual event happening however I believe that one holds more responsibility.
Tom doesn’t see this and has affairs with other women and he never really gets affected by his doings.
In The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald Jay Gatsby was murdered by George Wilson Husband of Myrtle. In the court of law there’s only one person who was responsible and guilty for the murder of Jay Gatsby. Although in the eyes of god there was more than one person responsible for the murder or had the ability to stop the outcome of the murder. Weather it was Tom being honest about his affair, Daisy doing the right thing and stopping during the accident or Jay Gatsby himself by taking control of the situation and doing what was good for both Daisy and himself instead of just what 's best for Daisy. Tom, Myrtle, Daisy, and Gatsby were selfish and self centered leading them to become Morally responsible for the death of Jay Gatsby.
