Loyalty, Trust, and Betrayal Trust and loyalty are two of the most needed attributes for a relationship to work. When those things are broken, betrayal is close to follow. Humans want to trust and be loyal to one another. Unfortunately these tend to be some of the most broken structures in life whether your trust is held within a: friendship, stranger, family bonds or a romantic affair with a loved one. The novel “1984” written by George Orwell and the medium “Julius Caesar” by William Shakespeare both manage to show how trust and loyalty can easily be broken, and betrayal can erupt out of nowhere from the ones you love or thought you loved. The biggest example of being betrayed by someone who you thought was your friend is Julius Caesar but he may have overestimated his relationship with Brutus. In the beginning of the play, Brutus was faced with the big decision of staying loyal to Rome who he loved, or staying loyal to Caesar to which he had also loved. Brutus was a very weak man, in the sense that, his loyalty to his country and being persuaded by others had blinded him by seeing the true loyalty he should have embedded towards Caesar instead. The question was who did Brutus love more, and at last, he stabbed Caesar in the back figuratively and physically, “Not that I loved Caesar less, but I loved Rome more”(Shakespeare 3.2.2). Brutus had been the final man to make the decision to kill Caesar out of the good of Rome. Although Brutus betrayed his bond with Caesar, he had stayed loyal to Rome and they showed loyalty back by doing their best to help him and by saying he had died a hero. Julius Caesar’s last words were, “Et Tu Brute”(Shakespeare 3.1) meaning in other words “you too Brutus” as he was shocked that his best friend had destroyed the meaning of trust and loyalty in a friendship. This is yet another example of, you can’t trust everyone you know, and learn how to trust your own
Betrayal: the act of betraying someone or something or the fact of being betrayed: violation of a person's trust or confidence, of a moral standard, etc. (Merriam Webster.) Betrayal, at its core, is change, disappointment, and pain. It is about the subversion of expectations, where what is given is far less than what is expected. In literary works, it is a simple device used to drive plots forward and create complex characters.
Teddy in “The Fall of a City” by Alden Nowlan and Alyosha in “A Trifle From Life” by Anton Chekhov both deal with betrayal. Imagine being bullied, betrayed or laughed at by your own guardians or even your mother 's lover. Teddy is a boy stuck inside his aunt and uncle’s house playing in the attic and constructing a cardboard palace. His uncle visits the attic and mentions to his wife that Teddy’s playing with paper dolls, and they laugh at him. On the other hand, Alyosha is a boy who is home alone with his mother 's boyfriend, Belyaev.
Anthony then shows that Brutus vlaimed to be his friend however he stabbed him “Our Caesar's vesture wounded? Look you here, Here is himself, marr'd, as you see, with traitors.” (Anthony,1742) when Anthony states this it builds trust that no friend should betray each other and he did this by only speak8ng high if one
George was in shock over what he did to his friend. In Julius Caesar, Brutus also shows concern for his friend, who he knows will be killed by the conspirators. During the meeting the eventually ended Caesar’s life, Brutus is saddened when Caesar calls him his friend. “That every like is not the same, O Caesar,/ The heart of Brutus yearns to think upon” (Shakespeare Act II Scene II, 32). In addition to that, Brutus was also the last to stab Caesar.
Brotherhood is an unbreakable connection of friendship between persons. Loyalty is related to brotherhood by being the indispensable concept of being honest and truthful in their actions. In The Tragedy of Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare, characters show loyalty as they obey and protect their master’s despite the consequences. In Gym Candy by Carl Deuker, characters ignore Mick’s actions and remain loyal to him. In Alas, Babylon by Pat Frank, characters show loyalty as they care for their friends and the dead.

If loves take risks, then, might it be the same for friends? Trusting and understanding someone is not easy, but these two, one day, will open up a new challenge for two people to face. In the comedy and fantasy play, "A Midsummer Night's Dream" by William Shakespeare, it is evident that honesty and empathy are the qualities that make up true friendship. Through the character Hermia, she shares her real thoughts and empathize with her friend no matter what situation they are in, however, it is also evident that being too truthful and empathize with others can cause betrayal in friendship.
“It's hard to tell who has your back, from who has it long enough just to stab you in it...” ― Nicole Richie. In the play Julius Caesar by Shakespeare, Brutus is a traitor because of his lack of integrity and loyalty to his country and dear friend. One’s integrity represents their true character, and disloyalty shows lack of trust and allegiance.
What is being loyal to someone, how can it be seen? Why is it that when one is betrayed, that is all that they think about night and day? The truth is loyalty cannot be seen but only felt between people who have faith within one another. As for betrayal, it can affect one so severely that it cannot leave their mind, especially if a loved one has caused it. In “Choices” by Susan Kerslake and “The Veldt” by Ray Bradbury, the authors suggest that a person can change based solely on their needs, and question their ability to stay loyal or betray.
When Brutus says that he is basically telling the people to trust him because he has known Caesar very well for a long time. Brutus also knows he is respected
