“Perhaps the witches have gotten a bad name, the only method is to separate the heavens from the evil.” Stated Adam Goodheart, it shows that this city of Salem cannot be trusted, people getting hanged for what we call lies. Its full on straight that people agree that the book “The Crucible” by Arthur Miller is what they call the tragedy in Salem. People telling lies, everyone going insane. The devil's spirit roaming through the air seeking whom to strike next, knowing that tragedy is up in the sky just waiting to see Salem go to dust.

a group of girls knowing to be talking to the devil late at night tend to be blaming each other. Stated Abigail “We danced and Tituba conjured Ruth Putnam's dead sisters” (20). Abigail agrees that all girls were in the forest calling the devil as seen dancing and conjured other people over the devils will. Abigail and all the girls get accused of witchcraft they tend to deny but Giles demands the truth out of them and tend to get it all out.
Danforth is fully upset with witchcraft and makes the decision of horrible death for the witches of Salem, stated Danforth “Hang them all, over the town! Who weeps for these, weeps for corruption!” (151). He wants all these women to die, Danforth would not take anymore of the lies and made that decision. Procter then agrees and gets accused to overthrow the church, all this tragedy lead to all the witches hung at there will.
On the other hand people tend to think of this as a comedy, others see it as a different way of a laughter. They tend to find the joy in the play, Danforth then lets anger out to Mr. Parris “Mr. Paris, you are a brainless man!” (133). Danforth is showing anger but then comedy as that passage may be humorous to the audience. When people tend to make a angrily joke to someone usually people will find that as comedy within the
The Devil influences the villagers of Salem, Massachusetts by using their ongoing fear of him to manipulate their thoughts and actions in a manner to set himself in the highest position by the end of the Act 1. As the Puritans lean toward blaming the Devil for their misgivings and suspicions, he gains control of their thoughts. Ruth and Betty pretend to fall ill after Reverend Parris catches them in the forest with Tituba and other girls, partaking in what is considered to be witchcraft: an act that defies the laws of femininity in the Puritan society. Mrs. Putnam does not buy her daughter Ruth’s act; rather, she sees it as “‘the Devil’s touch”’ which “‘is heavier than sick”’ (13). Believing that the Devil

Chloe Pendleton Mrs. Liz Hall Honors English III 13 February 2017 The Witch Hunters’ False Accusations The Crucible by Arthur Miller tells the story of the vindictive town of Salem and its unproportional amount of accusations of witchcraft. Vengeful “witch hunters” left no time to spare when making accusations on their neighborhood enemies. However, many were guilty of caving into their own weaknesses and only feared to be caught in their acts of hypocrisy. Weakness, hypocrisy, vindictiveness: only few of the many words that describe the guilty desires and revenge that lingered among the town of Salem.
Sex, Lies, Witches & Executions. That’s just the beginning of this literary masterpiece. The book “The Crucible” by Arthur Miller is an amazing piece of literature. It has been adapted in many forms such as Broadway productions, plays, and movies. Although, without a doubt some adaptations are better than others.
Vauvenargues once wrote, “The art of pleasing is the art of deception.” Most all of us have a natural inclination to please others and to be loved, and often we reach our goals by spilling what seem to be “little white lies,” or even more weighty ones at times. What may seem like a series of small and insignificant lies can very easily lead us into a deep chasm from which we cannot find our way out. It is at this moment we must stop and ask ourselves, “will one more lie get me out of this hole, or am I doomed to accept my fate by the hand of the truth?” In The Crucible, John Proctor struggles with this same conflict.
In the story, the crucible, written by Arthur MIller many people wonder the reason for john’s actions at the end of play when he Decided to destroy his confession. The Crucible is about accusations of witchcraft in Salem, Massachusetts, in 1692. There were many people that get accused of witchcraft due to hate and jealousy in these years , it ruined many lives and hurt families. John did not believe in witchcraft from the beginning of the play, he was not about to start.
#1 New York Times Bestselling author Vi Keeland once stated, “Fear does not stop death, it stops life.” A boundless collection of interpretations represent Keeland’s quotation. Yet, only one remains relevant to the topic at hand: in the events that led to the witch trials of 1692, fear posed as a major barricade in Salem Village, Massachusetts, hindering the Puritans’ ability to pursue everyday life. The Salem Witch Trials are one of our nation’s most compellingly intricate, though tragic, phenomenons. Immersed in a dangerously-religious, hysterical atmosphere, a group of young, attention-seeking girls behaved as if cursed by a demonic spirit.
People lie for many reasons. Sometimes it’s to themselves, sometimes it’s to others. No matter who they are lying to, it always affects others around you. In the story The Crucible by Arthur Miller, lying is a very common theme. Many characters lie, which include John Proctor, Abigail Williams, Reverend Parris, and many others.
Gossip’s role The Crucible, written by Arthur Miller is set in The Salem Witch Trial. During this time in history, religion was far more important than actual law and reason. In this book’s case, legalistic Christianity decided the devil himself was roaming the streets of Salem. Anyone who seemed as though they had bumped into the devil was killed.
Arthur Miller’s work, The Crucible, was written during the “Red Scare” time period, and many themes and ideas regarding both events are presented through a drama based on the Salem witch trials. In this drama, a lack of justice is shown when some jealous, vengeful characters in Salem are willing to use manipulation and deceit, and sacrifice the reputations and integrity of all involved, in order to empower themselves.
The Crucible by Arthur Miller is a dramatic play that expresses a very important message and that is how far people would go to save themselves from the hands of death. There are many characters in the Crucible who are guilty of taking innocent lives, but there are three major characters who, without a doubt, are the most at blame. The play takes place in the city of Salem, a city filled with people that would do anything to keep their reputation clean. Throughout the play, Miller is introducing multiple characters that experience changes in their decisions and negatively influence more people eventually leading up to the witch trials. The main point that the story revolves around is that people would rather lie and blame someone else instead of confessing and accepting the punishment.
Back in a time where everything is black or white, good or evil, one is either with the church or a witch this leading to the persecution of those against “good”. In the play The Crucible by Arthur Miller the belief that the church is always right and evil is always lurking caused many to die due to fake accusations. The church, wanting to help, begin to kill of those who were considered impure. There is a danger in having a profound belief in something, one becomes close minded and with time carry on actions that contradict that very belief.
People have a tendency to fight for themselves and for what they believe in no matter what the cost. This is shown in Arthur Miller’s play The Crucible when people in a village, named Salem, try kill their neighbors by blaming them for witchcraft. With characters such as John Proctor, he tries to bring justice to the town of Salem with all the false accusations with Reverend Hale. However with Judge Hawthorne, Abigail, Parris, Putnam, and the townspeople standing in their way, Proctor and Hale must fight through to bring justice. However in the end, 20 innocent people died because of people’s vengeance, hatred, and greed.
Proctor a Tragic Hero? We have been reading The Crucible which seems to fit the description of a tragedy because of its characters and the situations they faced. First off the definition of a tragedy is when a heroic character either dies or has an unhappy ending. Also the heroic character usually starts off at a position of high stature, but because of some reason or tragic flaw he/she loses everything. This play seems to have all these characteristics and many more.
One of the most valuable aspects of personality is humor – we value one’s sense of humor and make friends often based on finding certain things funny. But how and why do we consider things to be funny at all? Human beings have strived to uncover fundamental truths about human nature for centuries – even millennia – but humor itself is still yet to be pinpointed. Henri Bergson is only one of many who has attempted this feat, and his essay Laughter: an essay on the meaning of the comic from 1911 breaks down comedy into what he believes to be its essential forms and origins. While Bergson makes many valid points, Charlie Chaplin’s film Modern Times that was brought to screens only twenty years later seems to contradict many of Bergson’s theories, while Bergson seems to contradict even himself over the course of his essay.
