Fidelity keeps relationships together in modern society. There are many different relationship issues in the story. Infidelity is seen between Tom, Daisy, and Gatsby because of different assets that are being seen as more important than love itself. The failing relationships are because of problems caused by wealth. Fitzgerald criticizes the value of wealth by the infidelity between the different characters in the story. Infidelity is seen negatively in today’s relationships but wasn’t perceived as bad as it is now in the 1920’s. Money within the Tom and Daisy relationship kept their marriage strong, but Daisy had no affection for Tom in the marriage. His arrogance and wealth kept Daisy coming back for him.
