In the picture, a mouse pulling a rope that is tied to a piece of cheese is shown. Another rope is tied to the cheese and that rope led to a switch, which turned on a fan. At the tip, a magnet was tied onto it. Above the blocks there was a platform. On the left edge of the platform, there was a hole for the pole. On the right side of the platform, there was a tiny object with wheels. On top of the object, there was a lit candle. On the left side of the object, with wheels was another magnet. The magnet was facing towards the pole. When the blocks fell, the pole hit the bottom of the floor, which caused both of the magnets to collide. The object with wheels was pulled into the middle of the platform. Above the candle, there was a rope which was tied to a hammer. The rope was pulling the hammer back. The candle burnt through the rope which caused the hammer to release. In front of the hammer, there was a scale pinned to the wall. On the right side of the scale (towards the hammer) was a bell. On the left side, another rope was tied onto it. The rope led to an object that was sealing a funnel with marbles in it. When the hammer released, it slammed the bell on the scale, which caused the left side of the scale to rise up. The rope then pulled the object that was sealing the funnel. When the object was removed, the marbles spilled out of the

In addition, her choice of killing was to the neck with a rope as is similar to the way Mr. Wright killed her pet bird by wrecking its neck. Figuratively in this story, the bird is Mrs. Wright therefore, her killing the bird meant that she was close or already had killed Mrs. Wright’s true personality. The thought of this is what made Mrs. Wright rage vigorous from her cage as the thought of the constant oppression and the murder of her pet that influence her to reach for the rope. Justin Barnharst Language Arts Mrs. Waring June 1, 2015 Thematic Essay The book, The Things They Carried, by Tim O’Brien, is a story that is full of emotion and tragedy due to the horrors of the Vietnam War. War in general is a terrible thing for anyone to go through, as you would either be traumatized for life from your fellow soldiers being killed, or you would be killed yourself in a horrific way. The point being, war is far from being fun, or to look cool, but rather it is a sacrifice of the soldier’s emotions and physical being. The book talks a great deal of fear, as Tim O’Brien has stated from numerous characters in his book, and how, despite seemingly courageous an act may seem, it can be, and most likely is a very frightening thing
