Evidence-base practice has become very essential and dominant concept in nursing profession due to its following components : research , clinical expertise and experience along with patients perspective and values. As a nurse who holds position as the Outpatient Diabetes Educator I am utilizing every day of my practice the evidence based data in order to improve patients outcomes in diabetes self-management. One of the most crucial aspects of my education program is for diabetic patients to be able to recognize hypoglycemia symptoms and to treat them properly and especially safely. The DCCT study showed that the most effective treatment of hypoglycemia ( blood glucose lower than 70 mg/dl ) is consumption of 15 grams of carbohydrates
I like the Johns Hopkins Nursing Evidence-Based Practice (JHNEBP) model, because it is a powerful problem-solving approach to clinical decision-making, and it has user-friendly tools to guide. According to Zaccagnini & White, “it is designed specifically to meet the needs of the practicing nurse and uses a three-step process called PET: practice question, evidence, and translation” (2015). The goal of this model is to ensure that the latest research findings and best practices are quickly and appropriately incorporated into patient care. Great choice!
Moreover, I held the health education for them and helped them learn to use the blood sugar monitor correctly. I also presented several examples to explain the seriousness of exacerbating diabetes. Patients will have many complications, such as diabetic retinopathy, diabetic cardiomyopathy, diabetic nephropathy and etc. Furthermore, I demonstrated how the blood sugar monitors work face to face. Make them understand that it is very useful and convenient for them to know well their blood sugar level, what is more, to control their health at any
In studying Registered Nursing one will find that they have to be compassionate and want to care for others. Registered Nurses assist physicians with suffering patients of any medical condition. They help to decide the patient’s medicine, treatment, recovery, and educate the them and their families on post-medical treatment. They need to have bedside manner, and be able to prepare patients for surgery. Registered Nursing careers range anywhere from critical care, oncology, mental health, to an everyday school nurse.
Hi Kimberley, thank you for your thorough discussion of trustworthy and credible research sources. The textbook provided many useful strategies on how to locate evidence-based clinical practice guidelines and systematic reviews. I was encouraged to read some familiar names in the chapter, such as the Joanna Briggs Institute and Cochran Collaboration (Brown, 2014). You made a great point about quality care with your statement regarding nursing’s responsibility to develop best practices using the data we find. Thanks again for your thorough, insightful discussion.
During this assignment, the task asks for an overview of what Evidence Based Practice (EBP) is, and why is it so important and relevant to nursing as a generic term? The nursing and midwifery council (NMC) states that, all healthcare professionals are required to carry out care based on the best available evidence or best practice (NMC, 2008). A broad definition of Evidence Based Practice (EBP) came from David Sackett, (founder of the NHS Research and Development Centre and Colleagues); he expressed that EBP is: ‘The conscientious and judicious use of current best evidence in conjunction with clinical expertise and patient values to guide health [and social] care decisions’. (Sackett et al, 2000: 71-72).
Credible sources are important in any field of work. I'm also going into the nursing field and I agree that there definitely has to be credible sources. There is no room for mistakes and there are patients relying on nurses everyday. This is why credible sources are so crucial in day to day life in this field. People have to know what they're doing and make sure their sources are reliable.
1. Define research, nursing research, and evidence-based practice, and describe the purposes of research in implementing an evidence-based practice. Research is investigating and studying of materials and sources to establish facts and reach new conclusions or to report knowledge about something. Research can also mean to validate something that already exists based on some kind of theory.
Ivonne I too thought this was going to be a very easy class. I had absolutely no idea how complex evidence based would actually be. There are many tedious concepts and facts to take into consideration when it comes to evidence based practice. As Houser (2015) states "The strongest evidence for nursing practice is provided when multiple studies report the same results. " I also learned that the way you search for your data makes an incredible difference in your results.
As a professional nurse I have seen many nursing care issues that affect both the nurse and patients. Before I became an RN I worked as an LPN in a nursing rehabilitation facility. While working in that facility I truly saw what it meant to be short staffed. The nursing care issue that I have identified is short staffing and mandatory overtimes. I believe these issues go hand in hand.
Introduction: Due to the structure of health care in the United States, nurses are often responsible not only for patients’ education about their ailments, but also for designing and implementing plans and procedures to encourage general health education and wellness (Bastable, 2011). The advanced nurse should work to improve both personal nursing skills and the nursing skills of colleagues (Rolfe 2014). As such, nurses must be strong collaborators and life-long learners who are able to explain their justifications, processes, and skills to patients and one another. Although the world is developing an affinity for accumulation and implementation of evidence-based practice and although nurses pride themselves on their ability to learn and teach
My professional goal is to become a pediactric nurse. I would like to study nursing at university. Nursing was introduced to me by my adoptive mother when I was just 12 years old. She was, and still is a nurse technician at Mount Sinai Medical Center. Watching my mothers work inspired me.
My purpose in pursuing my Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) was to enhance my knowledge of the nursing profession in order to become a more effective nurse and leader in my field. For the past two years I have explored the realms of critical thinking, communication, diversity and therapeutic nursing interventions, working towards these goals. The BSN curriculum has supported these four areas of nursing knowledge and has provided me the opportunity to adopt new skills and resources that will improve my nursing capabilities and expand my horizons into new dimensions of nursing. Critical
Evidence based is been used widely in nursing practice, which involves integration of a problem solving approach within the framework that concerning care, using the best evidence from research, knowledge and proficiency from clinical together with patients’ beliefs and values. Nursing practice does support EBP as researchers had done many studies that showed improved outcomes when the best evidence is implemented of patient’s care. However, researchers had argued that, there are challenges in attaining and maintaining EBP in nursing practice despite the awareness (Mary, et. al. 2013). By using EBP nurses are able to come up with high quality of nursing care plan for the patients.
Introduction Nurses as a professional, we are obligated to deliver the best care to patients. Every interventions that we performed are expected to be based on evidences and underpinned by rationales. In recent years, the idea of evidence-based practice is prevalent (G). To promote the development of evidence-based practice, we have to address the barriers and facilitators (B). In the following, I am going to give a description on evidence-based practice.
For public, what they think about nursing? They may think nursing is a process, which take care of clients physically until they recover. In my opinion, I think nursing is a responsibility and knowledge-based tasks; it is used to improve the health state of all types of client. On responsibility aspect, it helps clients reducing their pain during treatment or recovery period and taking care to them physically and mentally. Nursing needs to think about what the clients needs and what is good for them.
