Evidence- Based Practice Evidence based practice has influenced the way that induvials view sexually transmitted disease. It allows us to look at the information we have gathered previously, interpret it and then determine what needs to be changed and what seems to be working properly. When looking at EBP, we can tell that with the use of protection such as condoms and dental dams, the percentage of STDs being transmitted has lowered. When sexually active individuals did not use preventative measure, the percentage of STDs grew. EBP also has proven to show that the more partners one has, the risk of catching an STD becomes higher.

I enjoyed reading your discussion post. Nurses must understand how organizational infrastructure and culture affects implementing and sustaining evidence-based practice. Although an evidence-based practice may be well documented and proven to positively, impact patient care, organizational structure and culture may present barriers to change. For example, financial constraints, tradition, or attitudes of leadership may hinder the implementation of evidence-based practice (Huber, 2014). Change agents or opinion leaders can influence the promotion and adoption of nursing evidence-based practice through creativity and persistence (Huber, 2014).

The use of evidence based practice in the hospital setting is increasing since research proving that integration of evidence based healthcare has a lot of benefits in this setting, and achieves the best possible outcomes for the patient . Improved patient outcomes is a result of the higher quality of care given by providers when following the most recent and updated evidence of the effect of care at the point of care. Utilization of evidence based practice also increases clinicians confidence in their care, allows them to adapt to new care, improve their skills, as well as their critical thinking and decision making skills. 1. CONCEPT 1-EVIDENCE-BASED PRACTICE IN NURSING This concept was deducted from module 2 with the topic “Concept of Evidence-based practice”. Evidenced-based nursing is a way of making decision and providing nursing care that is based on clinical issues and combine it with the most current, relevant research that is available on that issue. Evidence based nursing utilize the most up to date method of providing care, which have been proven via assessing high quality studies and statistically with significant research findings.

In the clinical setting, the nurses’ expertise can be used to make clinical assessments and recommendations for routine care at a lower cost than a physician visit. This would increase the number of patients seen and increase the quality of the care provided. The advance practice nurse would be able to hone in on preventative measures and increase patient education. The advance practice nurse can also make recommendations about practice changes needed to facilitate better health outcomes through the use of evidence-based practice. Nursing leaders are aware of how important nursing science is to provide needed evidence to transform practice, even though, finding the time and resources to support any research activity is often challenging (Stone, 2017).

Before EBP was imbedded into healthcare, nurses relied in the advice of senior nurses and what they learned through education and trial and error. Floranc enightengal ……. However, it wasn’t until the mid-1800s that evidence-based medicine had its beginnings, but did not come into play until the year of 1972. Through many years different modifications, various groups of nurses have drafted their own versions of evidence-based practice guidelines into play.

The Components of Quantitative and Qualitative Research and Their Mark on Nursing Practice Nursing care, and healthcare as a whole, relies heavily on evidence based practice to remain relevant and effective. Research allows for new hospital policies, treatment options, emotional care, safe practice, and successful patient outcomes. As nurses, it is imperative to understand and implicate healthcare advancements. One way to do this is to remain up-to-date with evidence-based research. Two successful research methods include quantitative and qualitative research.

I find the uptake of evidence-based practice is one of the fields that has profoundly affected the paradigm shift and is woven into each of the nursing fields, and since wide researches have been conducted so far, it imperative to note that the available material will equip and provide needed assistance. Stevens (2013) argues that the use of the knowledge which is gained from quality improvement efforts will definitely generate evidence needed to make systems improvements and transform healthcare. Therefore, utilizing the available resources in addition to conducting further researches, exploring on well-intended expert opinions and working together with the willing partners from the academy for discovering what works to improve health care guarantees growth of the profession. It is true that there a number of challenges to improving the profession, but there is no magic bullet for bringing success into the practice, several strategies are needed. Furthermore, what works in the context of care should be identified and the context variables implementation.
