Doing the ethical thing is almost always the best choice; however, there are some situations where the best choice is doing the right thing, not necessarily the good thing. An example of this event taking place is in the novel, To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, a story about two siblings named Scout and Jem growing up together and both have many adventures with many intriguing events. The main ‘villain’ in the story from Scout and Jem’s perspective is a man named Arthur Radley. More information would be given about him in the next paragraph. Atticus Finch, Scout and Jem’s father, should accept Heck's story about not convicting Arthur ‘Boo’ Radley for the murder of Bob Ewell because Ewell

People in Maycomb dislike the Radleys even though Boo cares a lot about Scout and Jem. Arthur Radley, otherwise known as “Boo” is an important character in the story of To Kill a Mockingbird. Boo is often viewed as a menace to society in Maycomb County. People often steer clear of the Radleys, which leads to Scout and Jem being afraid of him. One example of Boo having a bad reputation is the incorrect rumors about Boo spread by the people of Maycomb County. Because people believe the rumors about Boo, including the one where Boo stabbed his father with a scissor, leads to bias against him regardless of whether the rumors were true. This bias would lead to an unfair trial causing extreme despair, on the part of Boo Radley when he was just trying to do something right. These rumors are likely false because at the end of the story, we realize Boo is not some terrible monster but is instead a caring person. If Atticus convicts Boo and sends him to jail, Boo would feel forlorn and it would ruin his life when all he was trying to do was protect the children, which is the right thing to do. Boo Radley was trying to protect Scout and Jem from Bob Ewell, which led to Boo Radley killing Bob Ewell. Atticus recognized that Boo's actions were done to protect the children, making him a …show more content…
Earlier in the story, in chapter 10, when Atticus gave Scout and Jem their air rifles, he told them they could shoot any bird they can hit, but not the mockingbirds. Later, on page 119, Miss Maudie said, “Mockingbirds don’t do one thing but make music for us to enjoy. They don’t eat up people’s gardens, don’t nest in corncribs...” Miss Maudie is essentially saying that mockingbirds don’t do anything but good. Boo is similar to a mockingbird; one example is that Boo has done nothing wrong or terrorized anyone in Maycomb. People assume he is a bad person and monster because people do not see him often and because he stays inside all day. A second example of Boo being a mockingbird is when he neatly folded up Jem’s pants when he got his pants caught in the fence and had to leave them there. When Jem came back for it, it was as if it was waiting for him because Boo folded them for Jem. Another example is during the fire at Miss Maudie’s house. When Scout stood outside in the cold watching the fire, Boo wrapped a blanket around her so she wouldn’t get cold. He also gave the children gifts and presents for them in the tree entirely for free. Boo does nothing but good, just like a mockingbird. The last example of Boo Radley being a mockingbird is when he protected the children against Bob Ewell who was trying to kill
Boo is unfairly judged because of his actions. He is tied with morality and is upholding his dignity and fighting prejudice. Unlike Boo symbolizing the mockingbird, Atticus is different. He tries to keep Tom Robinson from being killed.
So he goes and tries to kill the kids, but Boo saves them by stabbing and killing Bob. This shows that Boo Radley is a good person with no bad
In Maycomb, rumors that are spread compare him to a creature, a stalker, and a criminal of the town, saying "went out at night when the moon was out, peeped in windows, and committed small crimes throughout Maycomb", Miss Stephanie Crawford most likely being the one to spread them. Many of the rumors like these come from the fact that the town does not see much of him ever, he is much like a recluse, which the town fails to understand. Ms. Crawford is also mostly responsible for this rumor in particular, as she claimed to have seen Boo Radley in her window, some night, which is probably wasn't true to begin with. To continue, many of the prejudices in the novel, like this one, come from a lack of understanding and the willingness of the town to their minds up about who Boo is when they truly have no clue. Along with the fact that these rumors spread from a lack of knowledge, the children of the town pick up on the comments and rumors made about Boo.
Boo Radley saved both of the children's lives from Bob Ewell, but he had to kill him to prevent Scout or Jem from getting seriously hurt. Even though it was Mr. Tates job to take Boo Radley (Or Arthur Radley) into jail. But he decided not to because “It is a sin to kill a mockingbird,” Arthur being the mockingbird in this situation. Besides the important lesson Scout showed us throughout the book, She also showed how her childlike innocence impacted the events around
A mockingbird is an innocent creature that doesn’t harm anyone. They are people that are hurt just for being different. In To kill a mockingbird, conformity in society has turned Boo radley and Tom into “mockingbirds” due to the fact that they don't conform to society’s standards and are considered “weird”, even though they were just being themselves. They are kind and helpful to
He is not evil and is locked up in the house as Jem, Scout, and Dill had fantasized. He instead just has his own shy ways but instead of worrying about that, he jumped into action, saving the kids. Atticus is even personally thanking him for his good deed which shows that Boo Radley has a good heart and is a hero. Another example of how Boo Radley is a mockingbird is, “‘Thank who?’ I asked.
Miss Maudie tells Scout that Miss Stephanie is only lying about seeing Boo outside her window. The only other event where Boo was bad was when he was with his “gang” and he was still punished by his father for his actions. Another reason Boo is shown as the mockingbird of the book is because he has only hurt one person. The only person that Boo has hurt was his father and that is still just a rumor. When Boo stabbed his father with the scissors his father punished him and did not let him go without consequences.
Boo Radley, Scout/Jem and Tom Robinson have been victims of stereotypes. Following this point, Boo has been named a creep and a monster because he has been locked in his house for 19 years. When Boo was young he was involved in a crime and his punishment was being stuck in his house. Generally the people of Maycomb have open doors to their neighbors, so since Boo is not allowed to let anyone in the see his a different and a nuisance. His neighbors also say terrible things about him portraying him as a monster.
In the story Boo Radley plays the role of Scout and Jem’s guardian angel. He watches over them and helps them when they get into trouble. In the first chapters, the kids make fun of Boo, they taunt him. All they know about him is what they have heard, that he is a crazy man. Throughout the story though, Boo proves them wrong.
Boo was misjudged by the whole town because he left gifts for the children which lead to his true nature as a person. He was described as a violent man and no one even stood in his shoes to see what he goes through. The contrast between him and Bob Ewell explains that Boo was trying to prevent it as a malice. He also carried Jem back to his home and he stays with him to make sure that Jem is okay. As stated in the novel, no one should harm a mocking bird because all it dies is sing and bring beauty to everyones lives when they are attacked like Bob Ewell
In the book To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, the main character and narrator Scout recalls the events leading up to her brother Jem’s broken arm. Throughout the story, the two children come upon several mysterious acts of kindness. Little do they know that they are from the one person the childrenthey would least expect: Boo Radley. Boo is mentally challenged and stays away from the public. Though he scares many of his neighbors, he never does anything to cause other people harm.
Boo Radley as a kid was locked up in his house all his life because of his strict father. So Scout and Jem thought of him as monster because they believed the rumors and stories that they heard. However, the rumors are put to rest when Boo’s character emerges. He is really very kind to to Jem and Scout.
Primary Evidence: Jem tells Scout that he thinks that Boo stays in his house because Boo knows that if he was to be seen in public he would be judged by Maycomb citizens (Lee 227). 2. Interpretation: Like a mockingbird, Boo is misjudged and people are scared that he will harm them, but he is actually innocent and loving. B. Claim: Boo radley is a loving giving man who likes to bring joy to
Rumors swept through the town, ruining a man’s reputation and giving him no reason to step outside of his own home. In To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee, Arthur “Boo” Radley is the most complex of Maycomb’s residents. Many say Boo is a killer that should not be trusted near children. However, Scout thinks otherwise as she tries to understand Boo herself. She learns more than she figured, as Boo teaches her numerous lessons without even meeting her.
Boo Radley represents one of the “mockingbirds” in the book, and a mockingbird is someone that is pure and innocence in the world. He is a good person that is hurt by the evil of mankind. In a lot of ways, Boo Radley might have have wanted to stay shut up in his house after seeing some of the awful acts that the townspeople have committed. But after seeing the Finch kids being attacked by Bob Ewell he had no choice but to leave the comfort of his own home that he has been enclosed in for so long to come out and save them. All though it would have been easier for this man to stay in his house rather than leave and then be drug into court, he did what he knew would be right and rescued the
