Personal Essay: Why College Education Is Important To Me

Our whole lives our parents told us that we need to go to college to be successful. They told us that college would insure us a great life, but for many, that isn’t the case. Many students go to college hoping to get a degree, but many drop out due to insufficient funds. While for some, college might be the right choice, that doesn’t mean that college is for all of us. One of the reasons i believe that college isn’t worth it is because of student loans and debt.

I personally was not sure about how I would pay for college but fortunately San Francisco State University allowed me other ways to have the opportunity to afford a bachelor’s degree and hopefully a Master’s degree. My initial incentive to attend college was better my education and understand of the world around me if even 5 miles away or 10,000 miles away. As a first generation student, I saw the idea of becoming more of an average worker fascinating, I aspire to be part of the 75% of successful investment, but if I am destined to be part of the 25% then I will find a way to continue to better myself with

One of my proudest accomplishments was graduating from UNC-Wilmington with a bachelors in Psychology. When I started high school I was there to get in and to get out. I graduated high school with honors and moved on to community college not truly knowing what I wanted to do or who I wanted to be. My parents pushed me to go to a university and it turned out to be one of the best decisions I could have made. I always had an interest in psychology but it was just that, an interest.

Is College Worth The Time And money Many people go to college for many reasons the main one for most is to get a degree in something they think will give them better job opportunities which in return would allow them to have a better paying job then what they may have now. A lot of time ,effort and money go into college and so it’s understandable to think that once you’re done you’ll have a great job waiting for you . In a lot of cases it really doesn’t turn out that way, but either way college is well worth all the time and money someone puts into it.

As long as I can remember, I knew that college was going to be part of my future. That is because I always knew what my family expected out of me. College is not only important to me for the reason of making my parents proud, but for making sure that I create more out of myself, as well. With a higher education, I will have more job opportunities available, potentially be able to earn higher income, and obtain more useful life skills than somebody who does not have a college education. To conclude this argument, my claim is that you should go to college if you have a purpose because college is worth it. College is worth it because it is a proven fact that college graduates make more money than high school graduates, and because most people who go to college are better off than people who didn’t
