Vascular Surgery
The surgical branch dealing with disorders of the circulatory system, which includes arteries, veins and lymphatic vessels, is called vascular surgery. These specialists treat varying conditions, such as aneurysms and atherosclerosis. These are abnormal dilations in vessel walls and narrowing/ hardening of the arteries, respectively. Vascular surgeons are focused on fixing vessels in nearly all parts of the body with the exception of the brain and heart. They also deal with peripheral vascular disorders like ulcers on the lower extremities and poor circulation. Surgical approaches to vascular repair may be endovascular (i.e. closed) or open surgery.

This allows for the vessel to remain open. Angioplasty is done for conditions, such as atherosclerosis, peripheral artery disease, narrowing of the kidney arteries, coronary artery disease and carotid artery stenosis, among others. Vena cava filters are small mechanical devices that are positioned in the vena cava with the sole purpose of preventing large blood clots from travelling from the legs to the pulmonary arteries. Clots reaching the arteries of the lungs may cause pulmonary embolism, which is a life-threatening condition. Aneurysms of the aorta as well as dissections may be treated with the use of endoluminal stent grafts. This requires the placement of a reinforcing tube within the affected parts of the

In the essay “The Art of Surgery” by Richard Selzer, explains the value of writing and how it may allow us to form a realization within the meanings of pain, love, redemption, loss, and happiness. The power of writing allows one to escape their surrounding reality, and engage in a whole new world to express their own ideas, emotions, and thoughts. The reasons to why we may write can be various for any individual. I believe that writing can have both positive and negative consequences, to allow us to see why we may choose to write. Some of the positive outlooks of writing may include; understanding more about oneself, moving on from past situations, and learning more about the environment that surrounds us.
Mildred Pasek, my friend and colleague died on August 8th 2017 following an anterior approached back surgery on July 28th at the New England Baptist Hospital. Before you read on, my goal is not to criticize the orthopedic or vascular surgeon’s professionalism, immense skill or personal care of Mildred as these cases affects all providers on a deep emotional and professional level. My concern is for the post-operative care of patients, like Mildred, who have comorbidities, are not necessarily in the ideal condition going into surgery, or at a critical time can advocate for themselves. As well as the debilitating arthritis, she had hypertension required three antihypertensive medications to control. Those meds were held pre surgery, and never resumed.

Surgical technology is a profession meant for people who don’t visualize their selves working in front of a computer, spending their whole day with paper works or waiting for the time to pass. This line of work suits well for those individuals who are hungry for action. It is a career made for the brave, the fast and the people who consider themselves as OCDs. Surgical technologists are the “worker bees” of the operating room.

He used catgut ligatures and silk threads to tie arteries during amputations instead of cauterising the wound. This was very effective but what Pare didn 't know was that the catgut and the silk threads were not sterile and infections often happened . Pare’s book ‘Work’s of surgery’ was published
One of these is called a Wound Vac. Wound Vac ’s allow for the continuous negative pressure therapy which is needed in wounds that are either too deep or that produce a lot of drainage. The vac helps to draw the drainage out and away from the patient’s skin, while preventing infection at the same time.
Some STs never imagined themselves pursuing the career they have right now. But then, it seems like the universe made its own way and let them be who they are today. For the sexy and superb surgical techs out there, this shirt is your perfect match! Each day, surgical technologists wake up full of determination to be better and to do better. They know how important their role is and how they make a difference in the life of every patient who lies on the OR table.
Young adults who want to have plastic surgery often have a different intention and goal than adults. They decide to have plastic surgery to improve any physical features they feel are troublesome or imperfect. If these imperfections were left uncorrected, they could affect the teen later in life. Teens should be allowed to have corrective cosmetic surgery, because it can help improve self-confidence and self-esteem and it can help medically.
Another issue that was identified was demonstrated by a woman who by the age of thirty-five had over 40 stents placed. It was easier for her providers to continue to recommend stent placement because this procedure
A patient goes into a surgery in either in cases of emergency or electively in order to repair or rebuild their injured or diseased body part. Once a patient becomes postoperative, they are at increased risk for developing a venous thromboembolism (VTE). A VTE is “manifested as deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE)” (Autar, 2009) which are known as the silent killers because they are the cause of a substantial amount of cases involving surgery. DVT is referred to as “the formation of a blood clot in a deep vein” (Miller, 2011).
